  • Publication number: 20050157957
Abstract: A storage bag having a recloseable mouth, which is biased into an open configuration, is disclosed. The bag, typically manufactured from thermoplastic material such as low-density polyethylene, includes first and second adjacent layers joined or folded along bottom and side edges. The top edges are not folded or permanently joined, but are provided with closure members such as mating male and female zipper strips. The bag is further provided with structure to bias the top edges apart from one another thus biasing the mouth of the bag into an open configuration. The closure members are sufficiently strong to overcome the force of the biasing structure and thereby hold the bag closed when the closure members are engaged. However, upon disengagement of the closure members the basing structure forces the bag top edges apart to thereby place the bag into an open mouth configuration.

  • Patent number: 6874938
Abstract: A container includes a flexible bag including at least two bag sides in an opposed relationship wherein each bag side has two lateral edges, a bag closure extending from one lateral edge to another lateral edge, and a bag bottom spaced from the bag closure. The bag also includes a flexible jacket, external to the bag, the jacket having at least two jacket sides opposing the bag sides, and a jacket bottom. The jacket sides and the jacket bottom define a volume into which part of the flexible bag is disposed, such that the bag bottom is at least partially contained within the volume and is spaced from the jacket bottom.

  • Patent number: 6868980
Abstract: A container (100) includes a bowl (200) and a lid (300) for the bowl (200). The lid (300) includes at least one opening (330). The lid (300) can be sealed to the bowl (200) in a plurality of orientations, including (i) an open orientation and (ii) a closed orientation. In the open orientation, the opening (330) is arranged over the bowl (200) such that flow is allowed from the interior of the container (100) to the exterior of the container (100), and vice versa. In the closed orientation, no flow is allowed between the interior of the container (100) and the exterior of the container (100).

  • Patent number: 6860952
Abstract: Methods for forming a thermoplastic film with an attached closure strip are disclosed. The film can be used to produce zippered reclosable plastic bags. The methods include providing a thermoplastic film web having a sealing surface and a closure strip having a binding surface, both being in a non-melted condition. The film web and the closure strip are aligned in non-overlapping relationship and a heated thermoplastic binder layer is positioned on the film web sealing surface and on the closure strip binding surface quickly after extrusion. The hot binder layer transfers enough heat to the closure strip and to the film web to melt the closure strip binding surface and the film web sealing surface. Pressure is applied to seal the closure strip to the film web. An apparatus for practicing the method and a reclosable bag formed from the thermoplastic film with attached closure strips are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6846449
Abstract: A method of producing an electrically charged film includes the steps of forming a molten thermoplastic material into a web, electrically charging the web while the web is at a temperature substantially at or above a solidification temperature thereof, cooling the web below the solidification temperature thereof after charging and winding the web into individual rolls immediately following the cooling step.

  • Publication number: 20040245261
Abstract: A container (2) includes a bowl (20) and a lid (10). The lid (10) includes a lid lip (16) having a generally inverted U-shape and the bowl (20) includes a bowl lip (26) having a generally inverted U-shape such that the lid lip (16) and the bowl lip (26) interfit, forming mutually opposing surfaces, with the lid lip (16) superposing the bowl lip (26). At least one of the bowl lip (26) and the lid lip (16) includes a seal in firm contact with the opposing surface, with the seal contacting the opposing surface in a small area relative to a total surface area of the bowl lip (26).

  • Patent number: 6817162
Abstract: A dispenser for rolls of wound film is disclosed, as well as a method of manufacturing such a dispenser. The dispenser includes a trunk to which a lid is hingedly attached. First and second end walls of the trunk include retainers adapted to penetrate into hollow ends of a roll of wound film disposed within the trunk. The first and second retainers include multiple flaps which are locked into a penetrating position. The multiple flaps may include first and second parallel wing flaps which are pushed inwardly by a locking flap. The combined flaps may be locked into position by frictional engagement of the locking flap in notches provided in the first and second wing flaps. By penetrating the first and second ends of the roll, the roll is reliably held within the trunk, and less susceptible to being inadvertently pulled from the carton during dispensing of the film.
