  • Patent number: 11133927
Abstract: A moving target defense scheme for a serial communications system is disclosed herein. A bus controller generates and broadcasts a nonce to remote terminals over a bus. The bus controller and the remote terminals generate a randomized sequence based upon the nonce and a shared secret that is shared between the bus controller and the remote terminals. The bus controller broadcasts first messages over the bus on first addresses that are derived from first portions of the randomized sequence. The remote terminals listen for the first messages that are broadcast over the bus on the first addresses. The bus controller broadcasts a shift message that causes the remote terminals to listen for second messages that are broadcast over the bus on second addresses that are derived from second portions of the randomized sequence.

  • Patent number: 11125700
Abstract: A time-resolved microwave reflectance apparatus comprises a pulsed or modulated optical source that irradiates a semiconductor sample with an excitation pump beam, a microwave oscillator that irradiates the sample with a continuous beam of microwaves, and a microwave detector that detects the microwaves reflected by the sample. Therefore, charge detection, rather than conventional absorption measurements (that detect the loss of photons), can be used to extract the absorption coefficient and band edge of a semiconductor material.

  • Patent number: 11117217
Abstract: A metal film for use by an additive manufacturing apparatus is described herein. The metal film has a support structure and metal voxels removably attached to the support structure by respective junctions. When a metal voxel in the metal film is impacted by an energy pulse from an energy source of the additive manufacturing apparatus, one or more junctions that attach the metal voxel to the support structure are broken, resulting in the metal voxel detaching from the metal film (at a desired location in a two-dimensional plane).

  • Patent number: 11118249
Abstract: A feedstock material for use in an additive manufacturing apparatus is prepared from a first material and a metal organic framework (MOF). The MOF comprises a plurality of nodes and a plurality of linkers, the plurality of linkers coupled to the plurality of nodes, thereby forming a framework. The MOF has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than a coefficient of thermal expansion for the first material. As a result, the feedstock material has a reduced coefficient of thermal expansion as compared to the first material alone and thus exhibits low thermal expansion as its temperature is increased. The coefficient of thermal expansion for the MOF may be modified by using a different plurality of nodes and/or a different plurality of linkers, as well as by incorporating guest molecules or atoms into the framework of the MOF.

  • Patent number: 11084211
Abstract: Described herein is an additive manufacturing apparatus that is well-suited for constructing piezoelectric sensors. The additive manufacturing apparatus includes an extrusion nozzle formed of a conductive material such as aluminum. The extrusion nozzle has a channel by way of which printing material exits the extrusion nozzle, wherein a build plate is configured to receive the printing material responsive to the printing material exiting the extrusion nozzle. An arc suppressor formed of a semiconductor is coupled to the extrusion nozzle and is configured to dissipate excess charge that would otherwise exist on the extrusion nozzle when a relatively high bias voltage is applied to the extrusion nozzle. Thus, the arc suppressor mitigates arcing between the extrusion nozzle and the build plate. Arc suppressing gas is also optionally introduced into a printing region, thereby further mitigating arcing between the extrusion nozzle and the build plate.

  • Patent number: 11081314
Abstract: An integrated transmission electron microscope comprising multiple electron sources for tuned beams of ultrafast, scanning probe, and parallel illumination in varied beam energies can be alternated within sub-microseconds onto a sample with dynamic ‘transient state’ processes to acquire atomic-scale structural/chemical data with site specificity. The various electron sources and condenser optics enable high-resolution imaging, high-temporal resolution imaging, and chemical imaging, using fast-switching magnets to direct the different electron beams onto a single maneuverable objective pole piece where the sample resides. Such multimodal in situ characterization tools housed in a single microscope have the potential to revolutionize materials science.
