  • Patent number: 5442564
Abstract: A method for determining the size of the stitch loops in sock-production machines by means of a control unit which stores three pairs of values for each of a plurality of different types of yarns with which each of a plurality of machine zones is to be produced. Each pair of values includes the relative height and the corresponding width of the knitted product, the specific length and corresponding width of the knitted product, and the height of the stitch-formation triangles and corresponding specific length of the knitted product. The width and type of yarn is selected for each zone to be produced, and the relative height corresponding to the selected width and type of yarn for each zone is determined by the control unit by means of an equation which represents a straight line. The rotational speed and angular position of the machine cylinder is measured and fed to the control unit, which then sends signals to step motors.

  • Patent number: 5327747
Abstract: A circular knitting machine having a needle selection device and a device for axially shifting needles which has an axially movable cam. The axially movable cam defines a contour and is movable to three levels corresponding to a knitting position, a tuck position, and a float position. The device is arranged in correspondence with the feed stations of a circular knitting machine, such that butts of needles not moved into operation by jacks traverse the contour of the axially movable cam. The contour raises the needles not moved into operation by the jacks with a substantial delay with respect to other needles moved into operation by the jacks under control of the needle selection device.

  • Patent number: 5291729
Abstract: A method for pneumatic threading in a two-for-one twisting spindle having a double hollow mandrel. The method comprising seizing the initial portion of wound yarn from a bobbin positioned on the lower hollow mandrel in the spindle basket and feeding a sufficient length of it through the upper hollow mandrel to enable it to be then placed alongside the initial wound yarn portion unwound from the bobbin mounted on the upper hollow mandrel. The two initial yarn portions are then held jointly and rested on the mouth of the upper hollow mandrel, on which a head connected to a compressed air source is placed and pressed, in order to achieve pneumatic yarn threading.

  • Patent number: 5246178
Abstract: An apparatus and method for anchoring thread to the surface of a bobbin, the apparatus including a movable arm for grasping the bobbin and a lever attached to the movable arm, the lever having two members for engaging the surface of the bobbin with one of the members being a roller. The movable arm places the bobbin in a mandrel, and a second movable arm moves the thread between the roller and the surface of the bobbin. The roller is then brought into contact with the surface of the bobbin and the mandrel is rotated to thereby wind the thread onto the bobbin. The second movable arm includes a cutting blade for cutting the thread, and a hook and movable lever for moving the thread into position.

  • Patent number: 5220777
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for pneumatic threading in a double-twisting doubling frame having a double hollow pin twisting spindle, in which the two thread feeding bobbins are disposed coaxially, one above the other, in the head of the spindle, and each individual bobbin engages its own hollow pin, this method providing for removing the initial length of thread from the lower bobbin in order to advance it into the hollow pin of the upper bobbin and also removing the initial length of thread from the upper bobbin and holding together the two said initial lengths of thread so that they rest on the inlet of the upper hollow pin, a head connected to a source of compressed air coming towards and being pressed against said upper hollow pin, allowing for both the lateral displacement of the braking device and the injection of compressed air for pneumatic threading.

  • Patent number: 5187929
Abstract: An automatic device for positioning a mechanical yarn feeler against a yarn. An extendable arm is provided with a magnet at one end. The magnet is held in a pivotable base which pivots within a limited range on the arm. The magnet actively engages the feeler when the arm is extended and as the arm retracts to lower the feeler onto the yarn, the magnet rotates with respect to the arm. When the magnet rotation reaches its limit, the magnet disengages the feeler and the feeler becomes passively supported on the base. The feeler is then further lowered to rest against the yarn and the arm retracted out of engagement with the feeler.

  • Patent number: 5184485
Abstract: A circular knitting machine for floated pattern hosiery with false rib stitches in which the courses of floated pattern knitting are produced in a single knitting position by radially withdrawing in the pattern yarn feed stations the knitting cams and the raising cams, so causing those needles which have received the pattern yarns to pass to an intermediate level until the station in which the basic yarn is fed. These cams then return to operation for the production of the foot in multi-feed plain knitting.

  • Patent number: 5174514
Abstract: The present invention relates to a thread-laying device with several rotating thread-guide elements, producing an alternating to-and-fro movement of synthetic or natural threads, supplied at high speed, in which the said device has its rotating thread-guide elements arranged in two groups which work together to wind the thread crisscrossed, and each group is positioned on an inclined plane in relation to the plane normal to the direction of downward movement of the thread and the said inclined planes converge in a vertex close to the said thread. The inclinations of the two said planes in relation to the normal plane have values which differ greatly from each other and the angle of their vertex has an essentially consistent value.
