  • Patent number: 11343544
Abstract: A distributed video management system that allows for monitoring a camera allocation parameter and dynamic reallocation of video cameras to available camera nodes in response to detecting a change in the allocation parameter including selectively dropping at least one camera from the system based on a priority of the camera. The change in allocation parameter may be due to a number of potential contexts including a change in availability of camera nodes, a change in the nature of the video data captured, a change in computational load, or other change that results in a change in allocation parameter. The disconnection or “dropping” of a camera may be temporary in response to an increase in computational load on the system. The use of priority values of the cameras may allow for sufficient camera coverage to be provided by the system while maintaining processing of video data from higher priority cameras.

  • Patent number: 11341998
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for hardware-based read sample averaging in a data storage device. In one example, a read channel circuit including a buffer memory is configured to receive a read instruction to read a selected sector, obtain detected sample values for the selected sector, and determine whether the read instruction corresponds to a re-read operation for the selected sector based on determining whether there are stored samples for the selected sector already stored to a locked buffer entry of the buffer memory. When there are stored sample values stored to the locked buffer entry, the example read channel circuit determines the re-read operation is occurring, and performs read sample averaging based on the detected sample values and the stored sample values to produce averaged sample values. Other examples and configurations are also described.

  • Patent number: 11335373
Abstract: 3D optical data storage refers to forms of optical data storage in which information can be recorded and/or read with 3D resolution. 3D optical media are generally limited in areal density by the diffraction limit of laser light used to read and/or write data to and/or from the optical media. It is thus advantageous to find ways to store data on 3D optical media with a spot size below the diffraction limit of an associated laser reader to further increase areal density of the optical media. A hybrid approach that utilizes plasmon technology to access a surface layer of the 3D optical media with an extremely small spot size and photon technology to access interior layers of the 3D optical media with a larger spot size may substantially increase overall data density of the 3D optical media.

  • Patent number: 11336304
Abstract: In one implementation, the disclosure provides a decoding system that concurrently executes a read sample combining recovery process and an iterative outer code (IOC) recovery process. Performing the read sample combining recovery process entails executing multiple rounds of logic that each provide for combining together different data samples read from a data block. The IOC recovery process is performed at least partially concurrent with the read sample combining recovery process and each round of the IOC recovery process is based on newly-updated data samples generated by the read sample combining recovery process.

  • Patent number: 11327858
Abstract: Systems and processes are disclosed to preserve data integrity during a storage controller failure. In some examples, a storage controller of an active-active controller configuration can back-up data and corresponding cache elements to allow a surviving controller to construct a correct state of a failed controller's write cache. To accomplish this, the systems and processes can implement a relative time stamp for the cache elements that allow the backed-up data to be merged on a block-by-block basis.

  • Patent number: 11320367
Abstract: A testing system includes a production-type laser having optical modes of a production laser that interfaces with an optical path of a heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) slider. A far-field light illumination path delivers excitation light from the production-type laser to the optical path of the HAMR slider, the excitation light being emitted from an air bearing surface (ABS) of the HAMR slider. Optics receive the emitted light from the ABS and distribute the emitted light to one or more sensors. The system determines, based on signals received from the one or more sensors, a depolarization of the emitted light and a coupling efficiency of the HAMR slider. The system may also measure light reflecting out of the optical path and Fourier transform these measurements to determine locations of reflections within the optical path.

  • Patent number: 11316673
Abstract: A secret sharing scheme in which a trust structure of the parties receiving a share of the secret is encoded in the shares. In this regard, an access structure defining an authorized set of participants may be based, at least in part, on the encoded trust structures. The secret sharing scheme includes a secret generator that generates the shares distributed to the parties. In turn, an authorized set of participants as defined by the access structure may provide shares to a dealer for reconstruction of the secret. However, if the participants requesting secret reconstruction are not an authorized set of participants, the secret reconstruction fails. In this regard, secret sharing with asymmetrical trust structures may be provided in which the trust structures are not known by other parties in the scheme.

  • Patent number: 11314423
Abstract: Sync-mark (SM) detection recovery techniques for HDDs tend to be slow and cumbersome. Typical approaches often require an entire read command to be aborted and multiple subsequent read commands with significant firmware intervention. Should a data sector be unreadable, an example recovery technique for HDDs is recursive read averaging (RRA). Using RRA, samples for failed sector reads are stored in memory. When a sector is subsequently read, the samples are averaged and replace the prior sample stored in memory. The averaged samples are then used to decode the sector. Should SMs associated with data fragments making up a sector be unreadable, the data fragments are unreadable, rendering the sector unreadable. The systems and methods described herein are used to recover previously unreadable SMs. When updated data fragments are subsequently recombined, the confidence level in the overall sector is improved, which increases the likelihood of a successful decode of the sector.
