Abstract: The present disclosure relates to electronic devices that include one or more solid reactants that react with one or more of water vapor and carbon dioxide gas to form a gaseous oxidizing agent component within the electronic device. In some embodiments, the electronic devices include a solid carrier that includes the one or more reactants. The present disclosure also relates to electronic devices that include a container that includes the one or more reactants in a manner that the gaseous oxidizing component can transfer from the container to the interior gas space of the electronic device. The present disclosure also involves related methods.
Abstract: A container includes a main body having a first outer surface and a panel rotatably mounted to the main body. The panel has a second outer surface which is substantially flush with the first outer surface of the main body when the panel is in a closed position. The container further includes a rotation mechanism that enables rotational movement of the panel between the closed position and a fully open position in which the second outer surface of the panel is in contact with the first outer surface of the main body. The rotational movement is enabled via a mid-rotation telescoping component that is configured to enable movement of the panel away from the first outer surface of the main body.
Abstract: A disk drive apparatus determines a pattern of bits of a data signal applied to a magnetic write transducer of a heat-assisted magnetic recording apparatus. The magnetic write transducer applies a magnetic field to a recording medium in response to the data signal. A laser power signal is applied to a laser that heats the recording medium while the magnetic field is applied. The laser power signal is modulated based on the pattern of bits. The modulation reduces differences between track widths of recorded marks having different elapsed time values and/or increases a signal-to-noise ratio of the recorded marks having different elapsed time values.

Abstract: The technology disclosed herein pertains to a system and method for managing write failures in a disc drive. Implementations disclosed herein provide a method including monitoring write fault events per sector for a storage device, in response to a write fault event, updating a write fault repeat count table, wherein the repeat count table tracks a number of write fault repeat counts per sector, comparing a write fault repeat count for a sector to a predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, and in response to determining that the write fault repeat count for a sector is above the predetermined threshold write fault repeat count, performing a write-reassign operation.
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for magnetoresistive asymmetry (MRA) compensation using a digital compensation scheme. In certain embodiments, a method may comprise receiving an analog signal at a continuous-time front end (CTFE) circuit, and performing analog offset compensation to constrain an extremum of the analog signal to adjust a dynamic range based on an input range of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), rather than to modify the analog signal to have a zero mean. The method may further comprise converting the analog signal to a digital sample sequence via the ADC; performing, via a digital MRA compensation circuit, digital MRA compensation on the digital sample sequence; receiving, via a digital backend (DBE) subsystem, the digital sample sequence prior to digital MRA compensation; and generating, via a DBE, a bit sequence corresponding to the analog signal based on an output of the DBE subsystem and an output of the digital MRA compensation circuit.

Abstract: A recording head has a near-field transducer proximate a media-facing surface of the recording head. The near-field transducer extends a first distance away from the media-facing surface. A waveguide overlaps and delivers light to the near-field transducer. Two subwavelength focusing mirrors are at an end of the waveguide proximate the media-facing surface. The subwavelength mirrors are on opposite crosstrack sides of the near-field transducer and separated from each other by a crosstrack gap. The subwavelength focusing mirrors each include a first material at the media-facing surface and a liner that covers an edge of the mirror.

Abstract: A data storage rack may only have a subset of the HDDs therein operating in an active mode where read/write operations may be performed. Other HDDs may operate in an idle mode, which is a power-saving state that permits the HDDs to quickly change-over to the active mode, when needed. In storage racks containing numerous HDDs, a majority of the HDDs may be operated at idle mode for a majority of the time. Where a large number of HDDs are operated at idle mode, a fixed common idle speed shared by the numerous HDDs can cause unwanted excitation, vibration, and resonance. This can yield increased wear on rack components, decreased performance from the HDDs therein, and increased noise. Variable HDD idle spindle speeds mitigate the foregoing, which is caused by an idle spindle speed previously common to many, if not all HDDs within the data storage rack.
Abstract: A distributed ledger is used by one or more parties executing a ledger node to document a lifecycle of a device. When devices are manufactured, shipped, and used, attestation transactions are recorded to the distributed ledger that identify the devices and include attestation information about the device. The distributed ledger further supports command transactions that are used to change the behavior of the device, such as unlocking capabilities on the device. The distributed ledger provides a history of device attestation and activation.
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for calibrating actuators in a multi-stage servo system. In certain embodiments, a method may comprise performing a calibration process on a multi-stage actuated servo system, including: seeking the multi-stage actuated servo system to a selected location, via a first stage actuator; providing a first voltage injection to a first microactuator of the multi-stage actuated servo system; measuring a first position error signal (PES) of the multi-stage actuated servo system; determining a first gain for the first microactuator based on the first PES, without adding a signal injection to the first PES; and applying the first gain to the first microactuator.
Abstract: An apparatus includes a hopper configured to receive a plurality of solder microspheres, and a moveable singulation device positioned proximate to and below the hopper. The moveable singulation device is configured to receive the plurality of solder microspheres from the hopper as the plurality of microspheres exit the hopper. The movable singulation device includes a plurality of holes, with each of the plurality of holes configured to receive a single solder microsphere of the plurality of solder micro spheres. The apparatus further includes a piezoelectric vibration device configured to provide ultrasonic vibrations to the singulation device, thereby preventing agglomeration of the plurality of solder microspheres in the hopper.

Abstract: Initialization stripes of a redundant array of inexpensive disks (RAID) may include determining whether the stripes have already been initialized based on redundant correction information. Further, un-initialized stripes may be initialized before intended if write requests are received for such un-initialized stripes. Still further, rebuilt stripes (e.g., portions thereof) may also be checked to determine whether such rebuilt stripes have been initialized based on error detection codes.
Abstract: Secure distribution of data objects using a unique quantum-safe cryptographic key provided to a user requesting the data object that has been authenticated using a zero-knowledge authentication. A user may access the system by way of the zero-knowledge authentication to request access to a data object of a data library. The system may generate and associate a unique quantum-safe cryptographic key for the instance of the data library to be provided to the authenticated user. The data object is encrypted using the unique quantum-safe cryptographic key. The encrypted data object and the unique quantum-safe cryptographic key are provided to the authenticated user. Other instances of the data object may also be encrypted with other unique quantum-safe cryptographic keys. In turn, access to a unique quantum-safe cryptographic key may not be useful in decrypting other instances of the data object, and other data objects may not be decrypted using a given unique key for a given data object instance.
