  • Publication number: 20140062028
Abstract: A gas seal for aerospace engines has a stationary seal housing, a rotating seal plate mounted on the engine drive shaft and a carbon ring seal movably supported in the housing with a face which mates with the face of the seal plate to create a gas seal therebetween. A plurality of flexible pins have first ends supported on the housing and second ends slidably connected with the carbon ring seal to permit the latter to shift axially. A plurality of compression springs bias the two seal faces together. The housing has a first twist lock which selectively engages a second twist lock on the carbon ring seal to movably retain the latter in the housing. The second ends of the spring pins resiliently deflect during mutual rotation of the carbon ring seal and the housing to facilitate engagement and disengagement of the first and second twist locks.

  • Publication number: 20120272056
Abstract: To provide key management layered on a quasi-out-of-band authentication system, a security server receives a request for activation of a user interface window for a particular user from a network device via a communication channel. It then transmits an activation PIN to an out of band authentication system for forwarding to the user's telephone via a voice or text message. It next receives the previously transmitted PIN from the network device via the communication channel, and authenticates the user based on the received PIN. After authenticating the user, it establishes a secure, independent, encrypted communication channel between the user interface window and the security server on top of the original communication channel. It then generates and transmits to the user interface window and/or receives from the user interface window via the secure communication channel, key material and certificate material for public key and/or symmetric key cryptography based operations.

  • Publication number: 20120049409
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a gasket that is reinforced by a metal band, which is completely encapsulated within the elastomeric material of the gasket. The metal band is formed with spaced-apart dimples stamped into its inner surface, causing raised projections to form on the outer surface of the metal band. When the metal band is placed in a mold, the raised projections on its outer surface cause the metal band to be spaced apart from the inner wall of the mold. Elastomeric material is then injected into the mold and is able to completely encapsulate the metal band. The gasket is cured and then removed from the mold.

  • Patent number: 8109404
Abstract: A tamper evident cap adapted to close an opening on a vessel includes a main body having an outer circumference, a pull tab extending from the main body, and a flange, forms an annulus around the main body and connected to the main body. The flange includes an outer circumference that is larger than the outer circumference of the main body. It is essential to the present invention that the flange is made of a very thin layer of material. In addition, the flange includes at least a pair of perforation lines. Further, the present invention includes a bump in the pull-tab for enabling a person grasping the pull-tab, to obtain a firmer hold thereon.

  • Publication number: 20110283340
Abstract: To obtain user approval of network transactions at different levels of security, a network site selects a form in which a transaction with be presented to the user from a group of transaction presentation forms including presentation of the transaction in a browser pop-up window on a user network device, in a security software application window on the user network device, and in a security application window on another user network device. The network site also selects a type of approval of the transaction required from the user from a group of transaction approval types including approval requiring no action by the user after presentation of the transaction, the user to actively approve the presented transaction, and the user to sign the presented transaction. The transaction, the selected transaction presentation form, and the selected type of user transaction approval, are transmitted to obtain approval of the transaction by the user.

  • Publication number: 20110265149
Abstract: To authenticate a user of a mobile communication device for login or transaction authorization, a first application on the device directs transmission of a request for authentication of the user to a security server. A second application on the device receives the request for authentication from the security server and directs presentation of the received request for authentication to the user by the device. The second application receives a user input to the device indicating that the requested authentication should proceed and in response directs transmission of an indication that the requested authorization should proceed, to the security server. In response to this latter transmission, the second application receives a PIN from the authentication server. The first application directs transmission of the PIN received by the second application to the network site, which validates the transmitted PIN, in order to authenticate the user or the transaction to the network site.

  • Patent number: 8043695
Abstract: In some preferred embodiments, a heat shrinkable foamed sheet has a foamed layer (2) constituting a core layer, and a non-foamed layer (3) constituting a surface skin layer integrally formed on the formed layer. The non-foamed layer (3) is less than about 1.55 ?m in maximum surface smoothness measured in accordance with ISO8791-4. Alternatively, by regulating various dimensions of foam cells formed in the foamed layer (2) so as to fall within predetermined ranges, a heat shrinkable foamed sheet excellent in surface smoothness and printing nature can be obtained.

  • Publication number: 20110254266
Abstract: A restrainer for connection to the belled end of a female pipe or fitting. The restrainer has a groove for receiving a compressed, snap-fit gripping ring, constructed from two or more rigid segments joined by elastomeric segments. The gripping ring has rows of teeth on its inner circumference, shaped so the spigot end of a male pipe can be inserted through the restrainer into the belled end of the female pipe. The gripping ring restrains the male pipe from moving in an opposite direction when the system is pressurized. The coupler can be connected to the female pipe in several ways: it can be threaded onto a threaded lip of the pipe; a projection formed on its outer diameter or its inner diameter can be snap-fit into on onto the end of the female pipe; or it can be welded or fused onto the outer end of the female pipe.

  • Patent number: 7758017
Abstract: Various exemplary embodiments of a butterfly-type valve that provide a reduction in the unseating torque are disclosed that include a valve body defining a flow passage therein, and a closure disc disposed in the flow passage that has an axis of rotation about which the closure disc rotates between open and closed positions. The valve includes a cylindrical body liner disposed within the valve, which includes a circumferential sealing surface that is engaged by the closure disc to establish a seal when the closure disc is rotated to a closed position. At least one resilient band is at least partially interposed between the valve body and the cylindrical body liner, and at least a portion of the resilient band is tapered to a reduced thickness. The taper reduces the forces associated with the engagement by the closure disc, to thereby reduce the unseating torque required to open the closure disc.
