Abstract: A method for drilling a tunnel through a formation must address environmental concerns. One tunneling method comprises the steps of: preparing a mixed metal-viscosified drilling fluid including bentonite, a mixed metal viscosifier and controlling pH to 8.5 to 9.5 to permit a reaction between the bentonite and the mixed metal viscosifier; adding at least one of: (i) calcium sulfate and (ii) a potassium salt; and pumping the drilling fluid while drilling the tunnel with the pH lowered to 7-9. The amount of mixed metal viscosifier used can be limited such that the weight ratio of mixed metal viscosifier to MBT reaches up to 1:30. In the event that there is a problematic increase in viscosity, a non-toxic anionic thinner can be added to the drilling fluid. One such anionic thinner is a polyacrylate.

  • Publication number: 20190316455
Abstract: Electrically ignitable and electrically controllable explosive material (EIECEM) may be disposed within a shaped charge for deployment downhole. An explosion of the EIECEM is controlled by limiting the duration of excitation at the EIECEM, for example, the duration that an electrical source provides an electrical charge, electrical current or electrical signal. The shaped charge may be insulated from an electrical source to prevent explosion of the EIECEM and coupled to the electrical source to create ignite or explode the EIECEM. A plurality of shaped charges may be disposed downhole and may be ignited or exploded in any suitable order. The EIECEM may be ignited multiple times such that multiple explosions are created. The explosion of the EIECEM creates or extends a perforation or fracture in a formation. The shaped charges may be arranged to create a shaped perforation or fracture, such as a slot-shaped fracture.

  • Publication number: 20190313920
Abstract: Non-invasive methods for accurately classifying Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a challenging task. In the present disclosure, a two stage classification is performed. In the first stage of classification, a metadata based rule engine is utilized to classify a subject into one of a confirmed CAD subject, a CAD subject and a non-CAD subject. Here, a set of optimal parameters are selected from a set of metadata associated with the subject based on a difference in frequency of occurrence of the CAD among a disease population and a non-disease population. Further, an optimal threshold associated with each optimal parameter is calculated based on an inflexion based correlation analysis. Further, the CAD subject, classified by the metadata based rule engine is further reclassified in a second stage by utilizing a set of cardiovascular signal into one of the CAD subject and the non-CAD subject.

  • Patent number: 10442481
Abstract: Conventional internal combustion engine technology has been around for decades and historically has been the primary power source for virtually all industrial equipment. It relies on carbon-based fuels, is loud, polluting, and the machines it powers are expensive to operate and maintain. A self-contained, rechargeable battery system is provided that possesses superior power than comparable diesel and gas engines. The rechargeable battery power system generates zero emissions, is virtually maintenance free, is quiet, and recharges overnight via a standard electrical outlet. The rechargeable battery power system can be installed in new and used construction equipment (light towers, excavators, generators) and may be used wherever a source of power is required, for example, in vans and boats, and in supplemental power systems including smart grid applications. It can be safely used indoors, in neighborhoods and other locations sensitive to the side effects of internal combustion engines.
