Abstract: A well tool for use with a subterranean well can include a flow passage extending longitudinally through the well tool, an internal chamber containing a dielectric fluid, and a flow path which alternates direction, and which provides pressure communication between the internal chamber and the flow passage. A method of controlling operation of a well tool can include actuating an actuator positioned in an internal chamber of the well tool, a dielectric fluid being disposed in the chamber, and the chamber being pressure balanced with a flow passage extending longitudinally through the well tool, and varying the actuating, based on measurements made by at least one sensor of the well tool.

Abstract: A workload-aware I/O scheduler in a Software-Defined Hybrid Storage (SDHS) system is disclosed. The scheduler includes a queue managing module, a workload property database, a traffic monitoring module, and a traffic modeling module. The queue managing module further has a request receiving sub-module, a request controlling sub-module, and a request dispatching sub-module. With the operations of the queue managing module, requests for accesses of HDDs and SSDs can be separately queued. Thus, performance of the SDHS can be improved. Meanwhile, the scheduler can be used for requests from a number of workloads at the same time while meet performance requirement of each workload.
Abstract: A system for use with a hospital bed having circuitry and a standard AC power outlet spaced from the hospital bed is provided. The system includes a cable assembly couplable to the circuitry of the hospital bed. The cable assembly has power conductors and at least one data conductor. The cable assembly also has a plug including a first power coupler coupled to the power conductors and a first data coupler coupled to the at least one data conductor. The system also includes a second data coupler mountable adjacent the standard AC power outlet. The second data coupler is configured to couple to the first data coupler when the first power coupler is coupled to the standard AC power outlet.

Abstract: Systems and methods of downhole power generation are disclosed, which provide for the generation of electrical power in a downhole environment by the use of an electrical generator coupled to a hydraulic circuit that receives energy from a source in the downhole environment. The hydraulic circuit can receive energy from flowing drilling fluid and/or from kinetic energy of one or more portions of the drill string. A direct or indirect coupling can be used to transfer energy from the downhole environment to a pump in the hydraulic circuit, which can act as a hydraulic flow source, providing flow through a flow regulation device or control circuit. The hydraulic fluid under such control can then be used to turn a hydraulic motor, which is used to turn an electric generator for the generation of electricity for downhole tools such as logging tools, related telemetry, and the like.
Abstract: There is provided a method for reducing the content of at least one water soluble volatile organic compound in a gas. The method comprises contacting the gas with an aqueous acidic oxidizing composition comprising H2O2 and a metal catalyst, and submitting the at least one water soluble volatile organic compound and the aqueous acidic oxidizing composition to an UV radiation.

Abstract: An assembly to recover hydrocarbon gas from a seabed comprises one or more self-propelled drilling devices that include hydrocarbon sensors and a sublimation mechanism to induce sublimation of crystallized hydrates into hydrocarbon gases. As the drilling device moves through the wellbore, hydrocarbon deposits are detected and the sublimation mechanism induces sublimation of the deposits to release hydrocarbon gases up through the formation to the seabed. A bladder is positioned atop the wellbore to capture the release hydrocarbon gas and transfer it to a surface vessel for collection.
Abstract: In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for measuring a user's comprehension of subject matter of a text. A summary generated by the user is received, where the summary summarizes the text. The summary is processed to determine a first numerical measure indicative of a similarity between the summary and a reference summary. The summary is processed to determine a second numerical measure indicative of a degree to which a single sentence of the summary summarizes an entirety of the text. The summary is processed to determine a third numerical measure indicative of a degree of copying in the summary of multi-word sequences present in the text. A numerical model is applied to the first numerical measure, the second numerical measure and the third numerical measure to determine a score for the summary indicative of the user's comprehension of the subject matter of the text.
Abstract: A method and system for generating visualizations for display synchronized with related video content are provided. The system includes memory comprising geocoded data and a communications interface to transmit video content to a display device. A visualization circuitry in communication with the communications interface is configured to receive a video signal, develop secondary data to be displayed according to the received video signal, select a subset of the geocoded data according to the video signal, and generate a user interface for the display device to display the secondary data, a physical representation of the selected geocoded data and the video content together.
Abstract: A method for fabricating a solar cell is disclosed. The method can include forming a dielectric region on a surface of a solar cell structure and forming a first metal layer on the dielectric region. The method can also include forming a second metal layer on the first metal layer and locally heating a particular region of the second metal layer, where heating includes forming a metal bond between the first and second metal layer and forming a contact between the first metal layer and the solar cell structure. The method can include forming an adhesive layer on the first metal layer and forming a second metal layer on the adhesive layer, where the adhesive layer mechanically couples the second metal layer to the first metal layer and allows for an electrical connection between the second metal layer to the first metal layer.

Abstract: In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system may include a substantially flat mounting plate having a first inset portion to receive a circuit board, and a second inset portion to receive an electronic component. A lower level of the second inset portion defines the first end of a post extending in a vertical direction away from the mounting plate to terminate in a second end, and the second end of the post is shaped to receive a fastener. The second end of the post may be used to secure a cap, and thus the electronic component, to the plate. Additional apparatus and systems, as well as methods, are disclosed.
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented for securely providing digital streaming data to subscriber devices using encrypted wavelet meshes. A recorded image may be subdivided into three sources of data: light sources, camera angles, and the objects themselves. Each of these sources of data may be considered unique from each other, and the totality of the three sources of data may comprise a complete image. Without one of the sources of data, the image may not be complete. Each of the three sources of data may therefore be characterized as key spaces, wherein encrypting part of or the entirety of even one of these key spaces prevents the complete image from being viewed. Methods and apparatuses are provided for utilizing the concept of encrypting at least a portion of at least one of the three key spaces in order to securely and/or privately transmit image data to subscribers.

Abstract: Alkali metal ions may lead to the production of insoluble materials during the course of stimulating a subterranean formation, particularly when acidizing a siliceous formation or a formation containing a siliceous material. Alkali metal ions may be sequestered using an alkali metal complexing agent in order to reduce their propensity toward forming insoluble materials in a subterranean formation. Methods for stimulating a subterranean formation can comprise: providing a treatment fluid that comprises an alkali metal complexing agent comprising a cyclic polyether having between 3 and 6 ether oxygen atoms present therein, and hydrofluoric acid, a hydrofluoric acid-generating compound, or any combination thereof; and introducing the treatment fluid into a subterranean formation.
Abstract: An example variable reluctance device includes a load structure connected to an armature through a connecting arm. The armature is positioned between two oppositely oriented core structures. A structural frame secures the core structures in a fixed position, forming gap regions between the core structures and the armature, forming a magnetic circuit. The armature is resiliently centered between the core structures by a spring, such that the gaps and are approximately equal in width when the armature is at rest. The device further includes a magnetic substance within the gaps that is compressed or stretched to allow movement of the armature.
