Abstract: An apparatus includes a radiation source to output radiation after power is supplied. The apparatus also includes a power source to supply power. The apparatus includes an ambient-activated switch electrically coupled between the radiation source and the power source. The ambient-activated switch is to switch to an open position while a value for an ambient characteristic for the ambient-activated switch is at an ambient level for a surface of the Earth. The ambient-activated switch is to switch to a closed position while the value for the ambient characteristic for the ambient-activated switch is at a downhole ambient level, wherein the ambient-activated switch is to electrically couple the power source to the radiation source while in the closed position.

Abstract: Methods including conveying a pipe inspection tool into a wellbore having at least a first pipe positioned within a second pipe, the pipe inspection tool including an electromagnetic sensor. A first excitation signal is transmitted from a first x-coil of the electromagnetic sensor, and a first response signal derived from the first excitation signal is received at the first x-coil or a second x-coil of the electromagnetic sensor. A second excitation signal is then transmitted from a first y-coil of the electromagnetic sensor, and a second response signal derived from the second excitation signal is received at the first y-coil or a second y-coil of the electromagnetic sensor. The first and second response signals are then compared to determine an azimuthal characteristic of the second pipe.

Abstract: A hospital bed is programmable with new firmware that is downloaded to the bed over a network. The firmware is downloaded to the bed automatically from a remote computer device. The remote computer device receives a message from the hospital bed which includes data regarding the version number of the bed's current firmware, and if the version number indicates that the firmware is an outdated version, the remote computer device downloads a new version of the firmware to the bed.

Abstract: A device may receive information that identifies a source database and a destination database, and may receive information that identifies an entity instance included in the source database. The device may determine a base data structure, included in the source database, that is associated with the entity instance, and may generate a dependency graph that identifies a dependency between the base data structure and another data structure. The device may receive an instruction to perform an operation associated with the destination database, and may determine an evaluation order for traversing the dependency graph to generate code for performing the operation. The device may traverse the dependency graph in the evaluation order, and may generate code corresponding to respective data structures identified by the dependency graph. The device may cause execution of the code, based on the evaluation order, which may cause the operation to be performed.
Abstract: A system, apparatuses and methods are provided to download and process data and other content streamed over a wide area network using one or more dynamically fetched, material specific, data handlers (e.g., download assistants). A download assistant fetches a data stream from a remote location and processes the streamed data iteratively using buffers and multi-threaded processes through the decoder (e.g., codec), allowing source material-specific processing of the data as it is streamed from one or more download sources as well as content-indifferent and platform-indifferent decoding. To minimize versioning issues, payload construction for secure delivery is simplified to packing and encrypting a directory tree containing any number of files or other digital media into an archive and, when needed, dividing a payload into multiple files or archives with a descriptor that lists the archives.

Abstract: A system and method for automatic weight-on-bit sensor calibration automatically compensate the measurements of a weight-on-bit sensor based on one or more of mass, hole inclination, buoyancy, drag, and mud flow, resulting in a more accurate axial force measurement below the weight-on-bit sensor at various hole inclinations. This measurement is observed by removing some of the effects masking the actual force being applied to the axial face of the drill bit.
