  • Publication number: 20140032385
Abstract: A plurality of banks of first deposit provide checking account activity data for both transit items (checks received for deposit that need to be cleared) and incoming returns (bounced checks) to a statistical model which determines from the data the likelihood that a check from a specific checking account will be returned. This data is used to populate a database of checking accounts to be used for making check risk decisions, such as check hold policy decisions, check acceptance decisions, and open to buy decisions.

  • Publication number: 20140031926
Abstract: The invention provides a device (50) and system for treating a heart valve having an anchor (54, 56) and one or more sutures attached to the anchor. The anchor has an expanded deployed configuration and a low caliber undeployed configuration. A delivery in a heart includes catheter and a needle slidable in the lumen of the catheter. The distal end of the catheter is inserted through the myocardium of the heart until the catheter tip is juxtaposed to the underside of the valve leaflet to be treated. The leaflet is then pierced with tip of the needle. The needle is pushed until the anchor in its undeployed configuration passes through the needle tip and is released from the catheter. The anchor is then brought to its deployed configuration on one or both surfaces of the valve leaflet.

  • Patent number: 8637418
Abstract: A method for treating a catalyst base that comprises a contact area of porous material. A fluid, such as a flue gas stream, can be conducted along the contact area. A catalytically relevant substance is introduced into pores of the catalyst base using a transport fluid and remains on pore wall areas after removal of the transport fluid. The introduction is carried out such that an amount of the catalytically relevant substance relative to the surface remains on the pore wall areas as a function of location within the pore and decreases within the pore after exceeding a specific pore depth. A blocking fluid can first be introduced into pore regions beyond the specific pore depth, thus blocking these regions when transport fluid containing the catalytically relevant substance is introduced.

Abstract: A financial card, also referred to as an evacuation card, may be activated by an institution during an evacuation and may be used in accordance with usage parameters for the purchase of goods and services from merchants during an evacuation. After the evacuation ends, the financial card may be deactivated. The financial card may have a predetermined spending limit or no spending limit as determined by the institution. The spending limit may be modified during an evacuation, such as if the event underlying the evacuation becomes more severe or the duration of the evacuation increases, for example. In an implementation, the financial card may only be used for purchases within a particular geographic location as determined by the institution, may only be used to purchase certain items, and/or may only be used to make purchases at certain merchants.

  • Patent number: 8639682
Abstract: General entity retrieval and ranking is described. A first set of documents is retrieved from one or more document repositories based on a query formed according to the topic. The first set of documents is characterized based on its first set of metadata values. One or more candidate entities are identified based on the first set of documents and the original query is thereafter augmented according to a candidate entity. The second set of documents resulting from the augmented query is then characterized in a similar manner. For each candidate entity, the first and second document set characterizations are compared to determine their degree of similarity. Increasingly similar document set characterizations indicates that the candidate entity is increasingly relevant to the original query. Repeating this process for each of the one or more candidate entities can give rise to rankings according to the respective degrees of similarity.

  • Patent number: 8637050
Abstract: This invention, in one aspect, relates to synthetic immunoreactive peptides. These peptides are approximately 20-25 amino acids in length which are portions of the N termini of the M proteins of the most prevalent United States (U.S.) Group A Streptococcus (GAS) serotypes. At least some of the synthetic peptides can be recognized by M type-specific antibodies and are capable of eliciting functional opsonic antibodies and/or anti-attachment antibodies without eliciting tissue cross-reactive antibodies. In another aspect, it relates to compositions or vaccines comprising these synthetic serotype-specific peptides, including polypeptides and proteins. The invention may also be isolated antibodies which are raised in response to the peptides, compositions or vaccines. The invention further relates to kits for using the peptides, compositions, or antibodies.

  • Patent number: 8639537
Abstract: Method and system to track, reconcile and administer the values of life insurance policies in separate accounts, including Stable Value Protected funds. Accordingly, targeted returns are translated into unit values on a daily basis for each fund. Additionally the system tracks restrictions (e.g., timing, amount of withdrawal and amount of reallocations) on a premium-by-premium basis, and tracks the book value, market value, duration and targeted return on a client-by-client basis. The system calculates and tracks the payments and credits applicable to a withdrawal or reallocation request, in addition to the liquidation schedules for each fund based on the payment amounts and credits of specific funds. Additionally, daily unit values are calculated given a periodic targeted return (i.e., a quarterly targeted return).

  • Patent number: 8636063
Abstract: Various disclosed cement slurry monitoring methods include monitoring one or more parameter of the cement slurry at various positions along the borehole during the curing process and responsively identifying a span over which the slurry extends and whether there are any gaps or voids in that span. At least some system embodiments include a distributed sensing arrangement to provide parameter measurements as a function of position and time during the curing process. A computer analyzes the measurements to determine the span of the cement slurry and whether any gaps exist. Contemplated measurement parameters include temperature, pressure, strain, acoustic spectrum, acoustic coupling, and chemical concentration. Individually or in combination, these measurements can reveal in real time the state of the cement slurry and can enable remedial actions to be taken during or after the curing process if needed to address deficiencies in the annular seal being provided by the cement.
