Abstract: A system and method for preprocessing magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) data of brain tissue for pattern-based diagnostics is disclosed. The MRS preprocessing system includes an MRS preprocessing module that executes an operation that normalizes MRS spectrum data, recalibrates and scales the normalized MRS spectrum data, and then renormalizes the scaled MRS spectrum data. The resulting preprocessed MRS data is used to assist in identifying abnormalities in tissues shown in MRS scans.

Abstract: A wireless financial transaction instrument, such as a card, has a magnetic stripe, a display, and an on-board power supply, such as a battery, and is usable with a dual capture point of sale terminal. Information is received by such a terminal from the card wirelessly, and also from the magnetic stripe, and the data received contactlessly is preferably used to verify that read from the stripe. The display can display the account number on command, or to display a current balance, or amount of credit remaining, or any combination of these items of information.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments of methods for determining the velocity of seismic energy in geologic layers using Seismic Emission Tomography (SET) imaging of drill bit noise, by recording microseismic data during a drilling operation, recording the time and the position of a drill bit in a well bore during the drilling operation, processing the microseismic data using SET software to image microseismic events proximate a known time and position of the drill bit using an estimated velocity model, computing the difference between the known time and position of the drill bit and the time and position of the microseismic event determined from the SET data, varying the estimated velocity model to minimize the difference between the known time and position of the drill bit and the time and time and position of the microseismic event determined from the SET data.
Abstract: Methods of fabricating nano-catalysts are described. In some embodiments the nano-catalyst is formed from a powder-based substrate material and is some embodiments the nano-catalyst is formed from a solid-based substrate material. In some embodiments the substrate material may include metal, ceramic, or silicon or another metalloid. The nano-catalysts typically have metal nanoparticles disposed adjacent the surface of the substrate material. The methods typically include functionalizing the surface of the substrate material with a chelating agent, such as a chemical having dissociated carboxyl functional groups (—COO), that provides an enhanced affinity for metal ions. The functionalized substrate surface may then be exposed to a chemical solution that contains metal ions. The metal ions are then bound to the substrate material and may then be reduced, such as by a stream of gas that includes hydrogen, to form metal nanoparticles adjacent the surface of the substrate.

Abstract: A process for electrocoagulation fluid treatment utilizing a tubular member with a plurality of electrocoagulation assemblies disposed therein. The assemblies have first and second conductive plates that are angularly oriented in relation to one another to promote turbulent flow through the tubular member. A non-conductive block is positioned between the plates to stabilize and orient the plates within the tubular member. The conductive plates may be provided with alternating negative and positive charges to combat corrosion.
Abstract: A self configuring knowledge representation system and method is presented which self configures based on the external stimuli in order to answer the query in a way best suited to the user. The domain knowledge representation here is by way of graphs that allows the knowledge to self configure based on the query intent to give “specific” to the query answers.
Abstract: Various micro-sonic density imaging-while-drilling systems and methods are disclosed. In at least some forms, the micro-sonic logging tool is embodied in a drill collar having at least one stabilizer blade. One or more acoustic transmitters are set in a distal face of the stabilizer blade to generate acoustic waves. One or more receivers can also be set in the distal face of the stabilizer blade to detect P-waves and S-waves that have propagated through the formation making up the borehole wall. Processing circuitry measures the velocity or slowness of the acoustic waves and optionally associates the measured values with a spot on the borehole wall as identified. Multiple transmitters can be used if it is desired to obtain compensated measurements. The tool can further include a fluid cell to measure acoustical properties of the borehole fluid, which can be used to convert the formation slowness measurements into density measurements.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention described a method for processing an ACH transfer in compliance with NACHA regulations. The method comprises receiving a request, through a phone call from a customer, to initiate an ACH transfer, the request including at least an account identifier and a payment amount. The method confirms the ACH transfer using speech recognition software and an interactive voice response unit, wherein the customer's identity, the date of transfer, the account identifier, the payment amount, a contact phone number, and the date of the confirmation, are confirmed by the customer using a verbal response recognized by the speech recognition software. This method also includes, recording, using a recording server, the verbal response of the customer in a sound file, tagging the sound file with at least the field of an account identifier, and storing the sound file for at least two years in a data repository.
Abstract: The dual stripper device of the invention has a hollow body formed for coaxial connection to the wellhead which provides for unobstructed passage of a slick cable, such as a data transmitting cable which transmits data in real time to the well surface. Disposed coaxially within the hollow body is a resilient wiper element with an internal bore formed along its longitudinal axis for passage of the slick cable. A hydraulically actuated piston applies a compressive force to the wiper element so that a pressure seal is formed between the wiper element and the cable when the wiper element is sufficiently compressed by the piston. The seal can be maintained during dynamic movement of the slick cable through the wiper element. A mirror image backup wiper assembly can be actuated in the case of failure of the first wiper assembly.
Abstract: Methods and systems for routing payment transactions electronically involve interrogating by computer logic each payment transaction received by a payments interface processor to identify a payment destination and a payment source and to determine, according to pre-defined parameters, whether the payment transaction is eligible for processing via an internal payment transaction processor of the financial institution that minimizes processing costs. Eligible payment transactions may be routed, for example, to an internal debit or credit card processor or ACH processor, and ineligible payment transactions may be routed to external card processing networks.
Abstract: A system and method for wireless location estimation of a mobile node using radio transceivers with polarization diversity have been disclosed. The system includes a plurality of pre-defined fixed reference nodes distributed over a predetermined area adapted to transmit fixed reference signals. The system further includes mobile node transmission module at the mobile node adapted to transmit mobile reference signals with respect the mobile node and plurality of pre-defined fixed reference nodes. The horizontal polarization module and vertical polarization module polarize the transmitted mobile reference signals and the strength of the signals is measured. The derivation module derives the range of the signals. Subsequently, a profile of the derived range with reference to the measured signal strength is created by the system. The system further employs a trilateration algorithm to determine localization of the node using the created profile, thereby providing the location estimation for the mobile node.
