Abstract: This disclosure provides methods and apparatuses to monitor strain in a steel pipe with reduced or eliminated disruption of the insulative and anti-corrosive layers or coatings that cover the pipe. The methods and apparatuses can include an attachment scheme that is less intrusive and less sensitive to dilation of the insulation layer on the pipe than previous strain monitoring solutions. Additionally, methods and apparatuses can reduce corrosion by virtue of the reduction in the number and volume of metallic components.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide apparatuses, computer media, and methods for obtaining a rule component from a legacy application and subsequently generating an intermediate state expression from a legacy rule of the rule component. The intermediate state expression is converted to a target rule, which is utilized by the target application. Also, a data component is obtained from the legacy application, and an intermediate data element is generated from a legacy data element. The intermediate data element is converted to a target data element that may be accessed by the target application when executing the target rule. A vocabulary item is extracted from the rule component. The vocabulary item is aggregated with the intermediate state expression to form the target rule. The target rule is subsequently deployed to the target application.
Abstract: The invention includes systems and methods for facilitating customizing of electronic communications. A consumer may shop and request purchase of an item on a consolidated shopping (CS) website displaying items available for purchase on different merchant websites. A host computer providing the CS website may access a merchant website selling the requested item, and order the requested item on behalf of the consumer. A consumer may purchase/order multiple items from multiple websites in a single purchase request to the CS website. When one or more orders are placed at the merchant's website, the system injects a pseudo-email address into the order form. The pseudo-email address directs any subsequent electronic communication from a merchant to the host computer. The host computer system then customizes the electronic communication, inserts the consumer's real email address into the electronic communication, and forwards the electronic communication to the consumer.

Abstract: A downhole device used to divert fluid flow out of a work string into an annulus. The downhole device is activated by the movement of a plurality of pistons within the downhole device. Fluid flow through a restriction of the downhole device creates an increase in fluid pressure causing the movement of the pistons. The pistons move a flow tube between various locations within the device. In one location, the flow tube prevents fluid flow to the annulus while in another location the flow tube allows fluid flow to be diverted into the annulus. The downhole device may include a locating sleeve having a continuous j-track allowing the flow tube to be selectively retained at the various locations within the downhole device. Fluid flow through the downhole is used to cycle the device between diverting fluid flow to the annulus and forcing fluid flow down the work string.

Abstract: “Context” of an environment or area is considered to be one or more characteristics of the environment or area, manifested by the presence of various types of equipment or devices. Detection of various types of devices and equipment in a localized area is by way of short-range wireless signals over which data about the devices is transmitted to one or more subscriber units. The subscriber units can forward context-determinative data and information to a service provider which can vicariously use the equipment or devices in the area via the subscriber device.
Abstract: A separating system for separating a fluid mixture incorporates a smart surface having reversibly switchable properties. A voltage is selectively applied to the smart surface to attract or repel constituents of a fluid mixture, such as oil and water produced from a hydrocarbon well. The smart surface can be used in a conditioner to increase droplet size prior to entering a conventional separator, or the smart surface and other elements of the invention can be incorporated into an otherwise conventional separator to enhance separation. In a related aspect, a concentration sensor incorporating smart surfaces senses concentration of the fluid mixture's constituents.

Abstract: An exemplary ATM (10) includes a fascia (12) which extends on the outside of a wall (14) and includes a user interface (15). Responsive to user inputs through the user interface, the ATM is operative to receive a stack of currency notes (84) from a user. A currency note stack can be evaluated through operation of a currency note validator device (88). Acceptable currency notes can be stored in the ATM for recycling. Unacceptable currency notes can be routed to a bulk storage area (100). The ATM also includes an exemplary note picking arrangement to pick currency notes from a received stack, including use of contact and non-contact stripping rollers.

Abstract: A wellbore servicing comprising a calcium aluminate cement and at least one gelation inhibitor wherein the calcium aluminate cement comprises less than about 50 wt. % alumina, greater than about 2 wt. % iron oxide, or both. A wellbore servicing composition comprising calcium aluminate cement and a gelation inhibitor, wherein the gelation inhibitor comprises a copolymer comprising one or more sulfonated aromatic monomers and one or more acrylate monomers. A wellbore servicing composition comprising calcium aluminate cement and a gelation inhibitor, wherein the gelation inhibitor comprises a copolymer comprising alkylbenzene sulfonic acid, at least one methally sulfonic acid monomer; at least one copolymerizable nonionic monomer, and at least one copolymerizable olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer.
Abstract: Methods for drilling, running casing in, and/or cementing a borehole in a subterranean formation without significant loss of drilling fluid are disclosed, as well as compositions for use in such methods. The methods employ drilling fluids comprising fragile gels or having fragile gel behavior and providing superior oil mud rheology and overall performance. The fluids are especially advantageous for use in offshore wells because the fluids exhibit minimal differences between downhole equivalent circulating densities and surface densities notwithstanding differences in drilling or penetration rates. When an ester and isomerized olefin blend is used for the base of the fluids, the fluids make environmentally acceptable and regulatory compliant invert emulsion drilling fluids.

Abstract: A RF transaction device stores multiple distinct calling card accounts associated with a calling card account. The multiple calling card accounts may be issued by multiple calling card carriers. An RF operable reader is in communication with a telephonic call enabling device. The RF transaction device communicates with the reader to retrieve calling card account information. Since the RF device has multiple distinct credit card account numbers stored on the transaction device, the RF transaction device may be used to effectuate a calling card call on different call carrier systems using differently formatted call authorizing systems.

Abstract: The technology disclosed herein provides a multiple sensor system that prevents crown incursion by a traveling block in an oil rig. This system calculates traveling block position, traveling block velocity and weight supported by the traveling block, and uses this information to calculate emergency stopping positions to prevent crown out by the traveling block. The system takes all these parameters into consideration when slowing and/or stopping the traveling block when it reaches a crown out position. The result is much safer operation of the traveling block on a workover rig, as well as on an oil drilling rig.
