Abstract: According to an example, a system for managing a fluid condition in a pipe includes a controller to receive temperatures of the pipe detected by the temperature sensor over a period of time. The controller may determine, based upon the temperatures of the pipe over the period of time, a temperature profile of the pipe and may determine that the temperature profile of the pipe indicates that a freezing onset event has occurred. The freezing onset event may include a transition from a drop in temperature to an increase in temperature, in which the temperature during the transition is below a freezing point temperature of a fluid contained in the pipe. The controller may further trigger at least one of an alarm and an activation of a first freezing prevention device in response to the determination that the freezing onset event has occurred.

Abstract: Featured are a device (20) and method for the detection of counterfeit pharmaceuticals and/or packaging therefore. Counterfeit pharmaceuticals are detected by visual inspection upon exposing a suspected counterfeit pharmaceutical to one or more light sources having different wavelengths, and observing the differences in color and/or brightness between the suspected counterfeit and a genuine pharmaceutical/packaging. In further embodiments, a image acquisition device acquires an image showing color and/or other visual effect(s) brightness of the suspect counterfeit and this image is compared to an image of a authentic pharmaceutical/packaging.

Abstract: An electrical connector assembly positionable in a wellbore includes a flexible conductor, a first hanger ring connected to a first end of the flexible conductor, a first hanger ring landing shelf in an outer housing, a second hanger ring positioned on a second end of the flexible conductor, and a second hanger ring landing shelf in the housing.
Abstract: A system that monitors various conditions of a plurality of hospital beds located in different rooms of a healthcare facility is provided. Alternatively or additionally, other types of equipment may be monitored by the system. Various configurations of network interface units that are coupleable to or integrated into a hospital bed are also disclosed. The system receives data from the hospital beds and/or other equipment and initiates a communication to a wireless communication device of at least one designated caregiver in response to the received data being indicative of an alarm condition.

Abstract: The present invention relates to molecular approaches to the production of nucleic acid sequences, which comprises the genome of infectious hepatitis C virus. In particular, the invention provides nucleic acid sequences which comprise the genomes of infectious hepatitis C viruses of either genotype 3a (strain S52) or genotype 4a (strain ED43). The invention therefore relates to the use of the nucleic acid sequences and polypeptides encoded by all or part of the sequences in the development of vaccines and diagnostic assays for HCV and in the development of screening assays for the identification of antiviral agents for HCV. The invention therefore also relates to the use of viral particles derived from laboratory animals infected with S52 and ED43 viruses.

Abstract: Orders received by an electronic trading system are processed in batches based on the instrument to which an order relates. An incoming order is assigned to a queue of a queue set that makes up the batch according to a random process. Where orders are received from related trading parties they are assigned to the same queue set according to their time of receipt. The batch has a random duration within defined minimum and maximum durations and at the end of the batch, the orders held in the queues are transferred to a matching thread of the trading system sequentially with one order being removed from each queue and a number of passes of the queues completed until orders have been removed.
Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for exchanging value using a smart card in a financial transaction is disclosed. The system includes a smart card having a contact interface and a contactless interface interactive with a closed purse application and an open purse application controlled by a microprocessor. The closed purse application contains application-specific value, while the open purse contains general value. The application-specific value and general value are each compatible within the system of the invention to perform and settle the financial transaction. The financial transaction may include the smart card communicating with a load terminal or a transaction terminal to add or change the amount of value on the smart card. Further, the present invention include auto-load functionality for adding an amount of value to the smart card. Finally, applications such as a transportation application and a loyalty application are described.

One version of the disclosure includes an electromagnetic transmitter that transmits an electromagnetic signal into a downhole formation, an electromagnetic receiver that receives the electromagnetic signal formation; and a cavity antenna in which the interior of the cavity contains a metamaterial made up of a plurality of unit cells that include split ring resonators or other devices such as electric-LC resonators.
Abstract: An apparatus assists educators in selecting achievement tools to meet an applicable one of a plurality of sets of educational standards. A first table holds a plurality of educational standards and a plurality of linked keywords. A second table holds a plurality of achievement tools, such as lesson plans, assessments and resources, and a plurality of linked keywords. A table manipulator program permits an educator to select an educational standard and shows achievement tools applicable to the selected educational standard by having a matching of keywords linked to the achievement tools to keywords linked to the educational standards.

Abstract: Methods, computer-readable medium, and apparatus are described for detecting a plurality of package types in the custody of a node-enabled logistics receptacle in a wireless node network. The receptacle detects a first type of package by receiving a signal broadcast from a node within a first node-enabled package prior to sensing a deposit of the first package. The receptacle also detects a second type of package (not a node-enabled package) by sensing a deposit of a second package without receiving a signal broadcast from a node within the second package. The node-enabled logistics receptacle then logs the detections of the first type of package and the second type of package. Then, the node-enabled logistics receptacle notifies another network device within the wireless node network about the logged detection of the first type of package and the second type of package.
Abstract: A method and system for inducing secondary orthogonal fractures in an underground formation by introducing a proppant carrying fluid into a hydraulic fracture in an underground formation at high pressure is provided. The pressure of the proppant carrying fluid is lowered at a rate allowing the fluid to exit the formation while the proppant remains in place within the fractures. The pressure of the fluid is then rapidly reduced, creating fractures orthogonal to the surface of existing fractures by pushing remained proppant against hydraulic fractures walls. The orthogonal fractures can be opened with high pressure fluid and propped. In this way, the portion of the formation in fluid flow communication with the wellbore is increased.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for positioning of downhole tools via radioactive tag detection. The method comprises positioning a radiation detector at a first position within a wellbore, logging radiation data while the radiation detector is moved from the first position to a position adjacent to or past a radioactive marker disposed within the wellbore, determining, based on the radiation data, a time at which the radiation detector is adjacent to the radioactive marker, and calculating, based on the time, a distance between the first position of the radiation detector and the radioactive marker.
Abstract: A process is provided. The process receives, at a mobile computing device, audio content via a communication application that provides a voice-based communication between a first user and a second user through a computerized network. Further, the process amplifies, via an acoustic amplification device, the audio content. In addition, the process delivers the audio content through a receptacle that receives the mobile computing device. The receptacle is integrated with the acoustic amplification device.
