Abstract: A system and method allows a user to automatically configure a new device on a local area network (LAN) by pressing a sequence of buttons on a conventional remote control (RC) while pointing the infrared (IR) transmitter of the RC at the new device. The button-sequence includes an arbitrary button-sequence selected by the user, or a pre-established button-sequence stored in an existing network member device, such as the network controller, and displayed to the user. The button-sequence represents a cipher key for an encryption/decryption algorithm. The network member device uses the cipher key to encrypt a configuration message that includes a shared network security key and transmit it over the network. The encrypted configuration message is received by the new device and decrypted using the same cipher key.
Abstract: Compounds having the structure of Formula I, including pharmaceutically acceptable salts of the compounds, are CETP inhibitors, and are useful for raising HDL-cholesterol, reducing LDL-cholesterol, and for treating or preventing atherosclerosis. The compounds have 3 cyclic groups connected by single bonds, as for example triphenyl, which are attached directly to the ring of formula I or attached at the position B.

Abstract: An ion generating apparatus includes an ion generating element having a positive ion discharger for generating positive ions, and a negative ion discharger for generating negative ions. The positive ion discharger and the negative ion discharger are arranged separately from and independently of each other on a base member with a distance securing insulation between the positive and negative dischargers. The ion generating apparatus also includes a blower for releasing the ions generated by the positive and negative ion dischargers into air and a voltage application circuit. The blower blows wind in a direction parallel to a surface of the base member.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus for preventing unauthorized uses of image data by allowing the addition of a specific image in a black-and-white mode even when it is set that a specific image is added in a color mode. When a document is copied, a control section determines whether the apparatus is in a color mode or a black-and-white mode. When in a black-and-white mode, an adding condition determining section reads a set security level and a differential value and determines a security level lower than the one in a color mode. Based on the security level in a black-and-white mode, an adding condition of a specific image is determined. The specific image adding section adds a specific image different from the one in a color mode based on the adding condition. A black-and-white image added with the specific image is printed.
Abstract: An erbium (Er)-doped silicon (Si) nanocrystalline embedded silicon oxide (SiOx) waveguide and associated fabrication method are presented. The method provides a bottom layer, and forms an Er-doped Si nanocrystalline embedded SiOx film waveguide overlying the bottom layer, having a minimum optical attenuation at about 1540 nanometers (nm). Then, a top layer is formed overlying the Er-doped SiOx film. The Er-doped SiOx film is formed by depositing a silicon rich silicon oxide (SRSO) film using a high density plasma chemical vapor deposition (HDPCVD) process and annealing the SRSO film. After implanting Er+ ions, the Er-doped SiOx film is annealed again. The Er-doped Si nanocrystalline SiOx film includes has a first refractive index (n) in the range of 1.46 to 2.30. The top and bottom layers have a second refractive index, less than the first refractive index.

Abstract: An integrated infrared (IR) and full color complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) imager array is provided. The array is built upon a lightly doped p doped silicon (Si) substrate. Each pixel cell includes at least one visible light detection pixel and an IR pixel. Each visible light pixel includes a moderately p doped bowl with a bottom p doped layer and p doped sidewalls. An n doped layer is enclosed by the p doped bowl, and a moderately p doped surface region overlies the n doped layer. A transfer transistor has a gate electrode overlying the p doped sidewalls, a source formed from the n doped layer, and an n+ doped drain connected to a floating diffusion region. The IR pixel is the same, except that there is no bottom p doped layer. An optical wavelength filter overlies the visible light and IR pixels.

Abstract: A light blocking unit includes a plate-like member which is different from a housing member, and a light blocking portion formed on the plate-like member, for blocking light. A light detector has a light receiving portion for receiving light which is partitioned into four divided regions, by a Y-axis-wise parting line and an X-axis-wise parting line in X-Y coordinates, and outputs photoelectric output signals for the respective divided regions in accordance with intensity of the light received by the respective divided regions of the light receiving portion. Of light beams emitted from a polarization beam splitter, a part of the light beams are blocked by the light blocking unit while the other part of the light beams are not blocked and thus emitted to the light detector excluding a region defined by two sides parallel to the parting lines.
Abstract: A ferrule includes a body having a cylindrical shape. Elastic gripping portions are arranged on the body so as to bulge radially inwardly. The elastic gripping portions can have elastic contact with the outer circumferential surface of a glass tube. The body of the ferrule is mounted to the glass tube via the elastic gripping portions capable of elastic and radial deformation. Thereby, the variations in outer diameter of the glass tube can be absorbed, and therefore the dimensional control with high precision is not required for glass tubes at the time of manufacturing. This leads to cost reduction.

Specifically, the invention relates to small nucleic acid molecules, such as short interfering nucleic acid (siNA), short interfering RNA (siRNA), double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), micro-RNA (miRNA), and short hairpin RNA (shRNA) molecules capable of mediating RNA interference (RNAi) against hepatitis C virus (HCV) gene expression and/or activity. The small nucleic acid molecules are useful in the treatment and diagnosis of HCV infection, liver failure, hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis and any other disease or condition that responds to modulation of HCV expression or activity.
Abstract: Behind a front panel of an air purifier are formed guide paths on the right and left sides thereof. A space between the front panel and a filter unit is partitioned by a partition plate into a front panel rear space and a filter unit front space. Part of an airflow that has entered the guide path through an air intake enters the filter unit front space, and the other part thereof enters the front panel rear space. When entering the front panel rear space, the airflow takes a sharp turn at a sharp turn corner. As a result, coarse dust is separated from the airflow, and the separated coarse dust falls into a dust box.

A content processing apparatus 1 of the present invention includes: a metaphor managing section 13 for selecting one metaphor from among a plurality of metaphors, each of the metaphors including information for displaying the basic operation screen and information for interpreting a nature of an entry operation in a situation where the basic operation screen is being displayed; a layout control section 11 for displaying the basic operation screen according to a metaphor selected by the metaphor managing section 13; and an operation information interpreting section 10 for interpreting a nature of a user's entry operation according to a metaphor selected by the metaphor managing section 13. This makes it possible to deal with various kinds of content items using a single interface apparatus.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing toner particles capable of decreasing the manufacturing costs by simplifying the manufacturing apparatus and by decreasing the number of the steps, as well as to provide toner particles, a two-component developer, a developing apparatus and an image forming apparatus are provided. A high-pressure homogenizer is constituted by a tank, a feed pump, a high-pressure pump, a heat exchanger, a nozzle, a first depressurizing module, a cooling unit, a second depressurizing module and a take-out port arranged in this order. A flow path constituted in the first depressurizing module has a straight portion tilted with respect to a direction in which the aqueous slurry passes and a portion for relaxing the flow of the aqueous slurry.
Abstract: An image display device (100A) includes: an icon display section (131) displaying a list of folder icons indicative of the folders, in an icon display area; and a preview slide show executing section (133) displaying a slide show of files stored in a folder, in a preview display area in a screen where the icon display area is present, the folder corresponding to a folder icon selected from among the folder icons displayed by the icon display means (131) in the list in the icon display area. This allows a user to easily make an operation for browsing a file or the like, concurrently with viewing a large preview screen.

Abstract: The invention relates to an area lighting device using an LED as a light source and a liquid crystals display having the same. An object is to provide an area lighting device which can provide stable display quality and a liquid crystal display device having the same. An area lighting device is configured to have a light source part provided with a plurality of LEDs; a dummy liquid crystal panel which has a pair of substrates and a liquid crystal layer encapsulated between the substrates, and to which light from the light source part partially enters; a chromaticity sensor which senses a chromaticity of light transmitted through the dummy liquid crystal panel; and an LED control part which compares the sensed chromaticity with a set target value, and controls the plurality of the LEDs so that the chromaticity becomes close to the target value.
