Abstract: Data processing can be performed even if a trouble occurs in a hard disk device. If a trouble occurs in a first hard disk device, it is recognized that a spare hard disk device is on standby, and operation of the spare device is checked. The first hard disk device is switched with the spare hard disk device, the data is processed and output. During this process, the first hard disk device is initialized. When the first hard disk device becomes available, the spare hard disk device is switched with the first hard disk device. If the first hard disk device is unavailable, an error is notified to an administrator to request repair or replacement.

Abstract: An optical read/write apparatus causes a read/write light beam from illuminating means to strike only one side of an optical storage medium including stacked data storage layers each of which is readable/writeable separately from the other layers. In this case, the optical read/write apparatus operates so that data is read/written from/into a second data storage layer after fully recording a recordable area of a first data storage layer. Thus, light can be shone with uniform intensity across the substantially entire recordable area of the second data storage layer without using a complex read/write system even under such conditions that the transmittance to light of the first data storage layer in the recordable area may vary depending on whether any data is recorded in the recordable area.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus carries out an image processing with respect to a sheet size and image information based on a print request to obtain a write image on a photoreceptor. On the basis of a printing ratio of the write image, the apparatus predicts occurrence of an image elongation. If the apparatus predicts that the image elongation occurs, the apparatus calculates a bending amount of a bended portion based on the difference between peripheral velocities of a photoreceptor and the idle roller, and the apparatus variably controls the peripheral velocity of an idle roller so that the bending amount is adjusted so as not to cause a slip phenomenon. It is possible to avoid the occurrence of a phenomenon of slipping of a sheet with respect to the photoreceptor without lowering image quality, and to surely secure a blank space formed at a rear edge portion of the sheet.

Abstract: The present invention corrects the insufficient peripheral light amount due to the lens shading and correcting the non-uniformity of light amount at the periphery due to a distortion resulting from a precision of the lens or a poor mounting precision of the lens. A peripheral light amount correction circuit is structured by an image synchronization signal generation circuit, a coordinate conversion circuit and a luminance value correction computing circuit. An integrated value of luminance values is calculated at the coordinate conversion circuit to extract light amount information. Coordinate values to be input to the luminance value correction computing circuit are generated based on an integrated/averaged value of the light amount information. In the luminance value correction computing circuit, peripheral light amount correction functions are converted based on the input coordinate values from the coordinate conversion circuit to perform appropriate correction on the input image.
