  • Patent number: 4756704
Abstract: A front derailleur for a bicycle which is provided with a linkage mechanism formed of a fixing member, first and second linkage members, and a movable member. The first and second linkage members are pivotally supported through first and second pivot shafts to the fixing member. The first and second pivot shafts are each fixed at one axial end thereof to the fixing member and, pivotally support at intermediate thereof the linkage members respectively. The first and second pivot shafts are connected at their other axial ends by a connector, so that a load due to an operating force to operate the linkage mechanism is dispersed to the first and second pivot shafts, thereby enabling the front derailleur to be miniaturized and inexpensive to produce.

  • Patent number: 4751850
Abstract: A speed-change operating device for a bicycle includes an operating lever for actuating a derailleur, the operating lever being supported rotatably through a lever shaft to a base member attached to the bicycle frame. A friction mechanism applies to the lever an adjustable rotational resistance against a bias force of a return spring associated with the derailleur. A positioning mechanism includes a positioning member having a plurality of engaging portions for precisely setting the respective speed change stages of the derailleur and an engaging member engageable with at least one of the engaging portions. An operating mechanism selects between an operating mode and a non-operating mode of the positioning mechanism so that the positioning mechanism can be placed in a non-operating mode, when desired, with the speed-change operation being performed in such non-operating mode only with the friction mechanism resisting the return spring.

  • Patent number: 4750684
Abstract: A double bearing reel which includes a protective device for a line guide. A protector having (1) a first cover portion covering the fishing line guide from above, (2) a second cover portion covering the front of the line guide, and (3) a line passing bore having a width larger than the reciprocation stroke of the line guide is supported across a pair of opposite side frames of the reel. The protector is slidable between a first position and a second position and is swingable relative to the side frames of the reel, when located at the first position, between a covering position and an open position with respect to the line guide. The protector is retained to the side frames at the covering position so that the protector is released from the side frames by sliding motion, thereby protecting the fishing line guide while maintaining easy access to the line guide to thread line therethrough.

  • Patent number: 4747559
Abstract: The device includes a turnover lever mounted on the side surface of a first mounting arm supporting the bail arm. A second shaft extends perpendicularly to a first shaft by which the support for the bail arm is pivoted on the top surface of the first mounting arm. An engaging projection projects from the top surface of the support. The turnover lever is superposed on the top surface of the bail arm support, so that an urging surface is provided at the superposed portion. The urging surface contacts the engaging projection so as to apply a torque to the bail arm support to turn over the bail arm to a fishing line releasing position thereof.
