  • Publication number: 20140250513
Abstract: A system and method for transferring configuration information between wireless access points is provided. Configuration information may include SSID and password, but also certain settings such as network and subnetwork settings. A first wireless access point may be a mobile hotspot, and a second wireless access point may be a docking station. The first wireless access point is initially active and operating using certain configuration information. Upon a trigger event such as a docking or undocking event, the configuration information is transferred to the second wireless access point. The first wireless access point ceases using the transferred configuration information, for example by switching off or adjusting its configuration, and the second wireless access point begins using the transferred configuration information. The configuration information may be transferred back upon a second trigger event.

  • Patent number: 8812730
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for network port and network address translation. Several problems with limited addressability may occur when transmitting data packets between a terminal in a first network and a terminal in a second network that is outside the first network. Data forwarding rules are used to define if and how identifiers of data packets to be forwarded between the two networks correlate with each other. According to embodiments, a data forwarding rule includes a first identifier associated with the first network and a second identifier associated with the second network, wherein each identifier has two parts: a source address and source port number corresponding to a source network node, and a destination address and destination port number corresponding to a destination network node.

  • Publication number: 20140134968
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for filtering incoming calls intended to be implemented by a device in a vehicle, said device previously having sent an emergency call to an emergency call center that manages the emergency calls and said device being in a state awaiting any incoming calls sent by callers. The method is characterized in that it comprises the following steps: identifying the caller of each new incoming call, if the identified caller is an emergency call center, then a communication between the device and an operator in the emergency call center is established, and the device returns to the state of awaiting any incoming calls at the end of the communication.

  • Patent number: 8707406
Abstract: An application processor is electrically and logically decoupled from a wireless data network module so that it may go to sleep independently. A security association may be established between the wireless data network module and a wireless data network. Then the application processor may be placed in a suspend state while maintaining the security association between the wireless data network module and the wireless data network. This allows email polling, for example, to occur without having to re-establish the security association by logging in again.

  • Publication number: 20140105009
Abstract: Approaches for managing machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless devices are disclosed. M2M wireless devices may be configured to utilize service classes in order to implement network access policy control. Packets generated by an application running on the wireless device are inspected, for example using Deep Packet Inspection (DPI). Service class may be assigned based on patent contents such as payload, transport-layer criteria, or communication protocol in use. Service class assignment proceeds according to a rule set which may be remotely configurable. Packets may be buffered and their transmission may be deferred pending service class assignment. Spoofing of the intended recipient and/or the application may be performed while the packets are buffered and/or inspected.

  • Publication number: 20140098663
Abstract: The present technology provides a computer-implemented method and system for performing frequency selective scheduling between a user equipment (UE) and a base station. The UE selects a sub-band within a predetermined system bandwidth based on observed radio conditions. The UE then communicates the selected sub-band to the base station. The base station then selects a LTE resource block having a frequency range falling within the sub-band. The selected resource block is then used for communication between the base station and the UE. The process may be repeated at a frequency related to the channel coherence.

  • Publication number: 20140063774
Abstract: An electromagnetic shield is provided, for example for a printed circuit board. A shield lid fits onto a base structure having at least two, more typically four, opposing sidewalls. The lid includes a top portion and a lip extending downward from the top portion to cap the base structure. The lid includes at least one deformation inhibiting feature extending downward from the top portion, for placement near or against an interior portion of a sidewall, for example against an edge of a folded-over sidewall. The deformation inhibiting feature may include one or more half-dimples stamped into the lid. In response to an external force, the deformation inhibiting feature presses against its adjacent sidewall in order to brace the shield lid. This inhibits the base structure from deforming the lip due to outward pressure of a sidewall onto a portion of the lip, located opposite the deformation inhibiting feature.

  • Publication number: 20140029493
Abstract: A method and apparatus facilitate data communication between a first device and a second device, such as an application server or Internet portal and a wireless terminal. A wireless link between devices supports communication via plural protocols, such as SMS and TCP/IP over GPRS. An interworking function (IWF) allows communication using native protocols, such as TCP/IP, but when appropriate (e.g. for small data transactions), translates messages to another protocol, such as SMS, for efficiency purposes. The IWF intercepts and responds to packets generated by the first device using the first protocol, as required. The IWF optionally selects a new protocol and generates and forwards packets, representative of the intercepted packets, to the second device. Protocol selection and/or turning the interworking function on/off can be performed dynamically based on efficiency criteria. The IWF may intercept packets before traversal of the wireless link, and may optionally reside in the wireless terminals.

  • Patent number: 8618717
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for connection and/or reconnection of a computing device to a wireless network. Embodiments of the system and method may, when appropriate, inhibit use of stored IP addresses, for example by deleting or effectively deleting stored IP addresses. By deleting or effectively deleting stored IP addresses, the computing device is influenced to request, via an associated wireless communication device, a new valid IP address from an access point which in turn requests a valid IP address from the wireless service provider server.

  • Patent number: 8611376
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for the transmission of radio data between at least two transmitters and one receiver, said method employing at least one multi-carrier data transmission signal. The aforementioned multi-carrier signal is formed by a temporal succession of symbols comprising: (i) informative data elements, and (ii) reference elements known as pilots which are distributed within the informative data elements according to a pre-determined pattern. Moreover, the value of said pilots at transmission is known to the receiver. At least two transmitters use different pilot patterns such that, at a give instant and a give frequency, only one pilot can be received (possibly with other informative data elements) by the receiver from other transmitters.

  • Publication number: 20130324070
Abstract: An aircraft-mounted base transceiver station (mBTS) for providing intermittent coverage in a cellular radio network. The mBTS utilizes the existing protocol of its terrestrial counterparts, thereby avoiding dual-mode devices and enabling common usage of terminal monitoring and device management systems for devices connected to a single radio access network even when outside terrestrial coverage areas. The aircraft follows a transient flight pattern, providing intermittent flyover connectivity for remote radio device such as machine-type devices. Connectivity may be store and forward. Channel usage may be adjusted to avoid interfering with terrestrial communication cells during flyover. Doppler effects due to aircraft speed may be accounted for. The mBTS may be configured to service in-range radio devices which are outside a Doppler-inhibited region and/or to prioritize communication with devices based on expected time outside the Doppler-inhibited region.
