  • Publication number: 20110066842
Abstract: A platform discrimination indication register is stored in a wireless network card. This register holds a platform discrimination indication that indicates whether the wireless network card can be used to transfer data with notebook computers or whether the wireless network card is restricted to transferring data from a personal digital assistant or defined set of restricted devices. The platform discrimination indication can be upgraded using a key value obtained from an Internet site. This key value is limited to a specific wireless network card because of the use of a unique electronic I.D. An Internet site encrypts the electronic I.D. to produce the first key, such as a platform activation key (PAK). This first key is then decrypted at the personal data device in order to obtain a unique calculated I.D. value. If the calculated I.D. value matches the electronic I.D.

  • Publication number: 20110051613
Abstract: A method is provided for detecting, using a mobile apparatus, the central frequency of at least one carrier of a wide-band downlink of a communication channel associated with a frequency band, wherein the at least one carrier belongs to the frequency band. The method includes a first step of measuring the value of an indicator representative of a power received by the mobile apparatus for a plurality of frequencies evenly spaced in the frequency band in order to obtain a spectrum of values of the indicator on the frequency band. The method includes a second phase of analyzing the spectrum of the indicator, which includes recognizing the shape of the at least one carrier in the indicator spectrum, and detecting the central frequency of the at least one carrier.

  • Publication number: 20110025429
Abstract: The present invention provides a transmission line portion for a circuit board including a conductive strip and a pad portion including a conductive pad connected to the conductive strip, wherein an impedance discontinuity or mismatch between the transmission line portion and the pad portion is reduced or controlled. Impedance discontinuity or mismatch may be controlled by controlling the dimensions of the pad portion, for example the pad width or distance between pad and ground. A ground pad associated with the pad portion may be provided on a different layer than a ground plane of the transmission line portion. The ground pad and ground plane may be connected by vias. The ground pad may comprise a patterned conductive region, the pattern configured so as to desirably configure impedance of the pad portion. Also provided are a method, circuit board layout, and the like, related to the above.

  • Patent number: 7882388
Abstract: Disclosed is a method, system, and computer readable medium for restoring a failed non-volatile memory (NVM) system in a wireless device having a primary NVM system and a secondary NVM system. The method does not require a reboot of the wireless device. A NVM manager application detects a failure in either of the NVM systems and determines which NVM system has failed. If the primary NVM system has failed then the NVM manger switches the wireless device to operate using the secondary NVM system, restores the primary NVM system using data from the secondary NVM system, then switches the wireless device back to the primary NVM system once it has been restored. If the secondary NVM system has failed then the NVM manager restores the secondary NVM system using data from the primary NVM system.
