Patent number: 5624192Abstract: The rolling-contact bearing comprises one outer race 11, two inner races 12,13, two rows of rolling bodies 14 held in cages 15 and a built-in device for detecting the speed of rotation, of the type comprising a sensor means 17 and an encoder means 19 which are located in the annular chamber defined between the inner races 12, 13 and outer race 11 and the rolling bodies 14. The encoder means 19 comprises an active part 20 capable of creating in the sensor means 17 a periodic signal of frequency proportional to the rotational speed of the bearing 1. The encoder means 19 comprises a support part 21 secured to the inner races 12,13 and made of a nonmagnetic material, so that the said support part 21 axially holds the inner races 12,13 against each other before the bearing 1 is mounted in the mechanical assembly for which it is intended.According to the invention, the encoder axially secures the inner races after the bearing has been assembled and cannot come into contact with the rolling bodies.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1996Date of Patent: April 29, 1997Assignee: SKF FranceInventors: Christian Rigaux, Claude Caillault, Christophe Houdayer

Patent number: 5618488Abstract: The invention relates to a method of manufacturing a seal for a roller bearing, for instance a ball bearing. The seal according to the invention is formed from a thermoplastic polymer-containing material which is subsequently cross-linked under the influence of radiation, for example .beta.-radiation. This allows the use of seals manufactured according to the invention at near or even above the melting point of the non-cross-linked thermoplastic polymer being employed. Due to the invention a large number of cheap polymeric materials have become suitable for the manufacture of seals, and due to the cross-linking the swelling caused by lubricants can be reduced considerably.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 1994Date of Patent: April 8, 1997Assignee: SKF Industrial Trading & Development Company B.V.Inventors: Vendran A. Patent number: 5586826Abstract: A roller bearing includes an inner raceway member having an inner raceway surface and an outer raceway member having an outer raceway surface. The inner and outer raceway surfaces are spaced apart from one another to define an annular space and a plurality of rolling elements are disposed in the annular space for engaging the inner and outer raceway surfaces as the rolling elements roll in a rolling direction. During operation of the roller bearing, friction forces arise at regions of the inner and outer raceway surfaces that give rise to positive skew moments. Those regions of the raceway surfaces are designed to have greater frictional characteristics than those regions of the inner and outer raceway surfaces where negative skew moment producing friction forces arise. In that way, the skew of the roller can be controlled to be not excessively negative.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1994Date of Patent: December 24, 1996Assignee: SKF Sverige ABInventors: Magnus Kellstrom, Joacim Fogelstrom, Henning Wittmeyer

Patent number: 5570572Abstract: A device for an open-end spinning machine is disclosed having a drive and a bearing for a shaft-less spinning rotor that forms the rotor of an axial field motor. The device has a stator with a hollow, cylindrical core, a multiphase winding, and a combined magnetic/gas bearing. The bearing has gas outlet bores in an axial, plane-parallel bearing face providing for gas distribution symmetrically about the axis, and there are holding and centering magnets centered in the bearing face. The housings of the stator and the bearing are combined into a one-piece stator housing in which are formed the device for cooling, the gas distribution device, holders for spring and clamping elements of the stator housing suspension, and a support for a sensor plate. The housing also integrates a yoke plate of the bearing and connections for supply lines. A gas chamber therein is closed off on the open side by a gas bearing cover.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1994Date of Patent: November 5, 1996Assignee: SKF Textilmaschinen-Komponenten GmbHInventors: Wilhelm Birkenmaier, Anton Paweletz

Patent number: 5548950Abstract: A shaftless spinning rotor for an open-end spinning machine advantageously protects the rotational bearing components in a combined magnetic-gas bearing management by utilizing a concentric magnet arrangement for the generation of a magnetic field for guiding the rotor relative to the stator, wherein a first dynamically balanced magnet unit projects from one of two opposed bearing faces on the rotor and the stator and a corresponding dynamically balanced magnet unit is recessed in the opposite bearing surface, the magnet units being dimensioned to produce an axial as well as a radial air gap therebetween. Air nozzles for producing the gas bearing open into the recessed area. The air gap in the area of the central axis can be embodied to be wider than the air gap between the opposed bearing faces.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1994Date of Patent: August 27, 1996Assignee: SKF Textilmaschinen-Komponenten GmbHInventor: Anton Paweletz

Patent number: 5537810Abstract: In order to improve the smoothness of operation of a shaftless spinning rotor embodied as the rotor of an axial field motor wherein the rotor is supported by a magnetic gas bearing, a guide magnet arrangement for generating a magnetic guiding field is decoupled mechanically from the drive component of the stator. To that end, separate magnet and stator components are connected to one another by means having both elastic and damping properties, e.g., rubber. This mechanical decoupling makes it possible for the separate components to execute vibration independently of one another and for vibration to be transmitted from one component to another only in highly attenuated form. Hence, machine vibration can substantially be prevented from affecting the smoothness of rotor operation. Tangential forces generated by harmonics and radial forces caused by magnetic or mechanical asymmetries can likewise be absorbed by the stator, with an attendant improvement in smoothness of rotor operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1994Date of Patent: July 23, 1996Assignee: SKF Textilmaschinen-Komponenten GmbHInventor: Anton Paweletz

Patent number: 5536075Abstract: A wheel hub unit in which an inner ring of a rolling bearing acts as a wheel hub and is rigidly connected to an outer cap of a constant-velocity universal joint; the inner ring is formed by a first element having a first race for the rolling bodies and a sleeve-shaped connecting portion and a second annular element provided with a second race for the rolling bodies, which is fixed to a first length of the sleeve-shaped portion so as to be rigid for rotation therewith, the second element being in abutment with an axial shoulder of the first element adjacent the first race and being axially locked thereagainst by means of the plastic deformation of a stop member; the cap of the joint being coupled with a second, splined length of the sleeve-shaped portion on which it is axially snap engaged.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1994Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: SKF Industrie S.p.A.Inventor: Paolo Bertetti

Patent number: 5535582Abstract: A drive for a shaftless spinning rotor wherein the spinning rotor is embodied as the rotor of an axial field motor utilizes axially opposed yoke-forming, magnetically conductive elements disposed respectively on the opposite sides of an air gap formed between the spinning rotor and the stator in combination with at least one magnet (preferably either permanent magnets or electromagnets) on one or both the rotor and stator arranged concentrically to one another and to the rotor axis. The present magnet/yoke arrangement does not require exact mutual alignment of oppositely located magnets nor their homogeneous polarization. The present arrangement is self-adjusting because of the generation of a point-symmetrical field which in operation forms a sort of magnetic potential depression. Magnetic drive and guide fields are advantageously decoupled in order to reduce their mutual interference.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1995Date of Patent: July 16, 1996Assignee: SKF Textilmaschinen-Komponenten GmbHInventor: Anton Paweletz
