Abstract: Knee implants and components thereof are disclosed. A femoral component of a knee implant may include a reduced constraint region arranged on a portion of a patella path. The reduced constraint region may be configured to provide increased freedom-of-movement of a patella traveling over the reduced constraint region. The increased freedom-of-movement may be with respect to medial-lateral movement and/or internal-external rotation of the patella. The patella path may include a constraint region (e.g., a trochlear groove) positioned inferiorly of the reduced constraint region. A patella may travel within the reduced constraint region during extension (or partial flexion) and within the trochlear groove during flexion. A prosthetic patella having a raised portion is also disclosed. The raised portion may be configured to facilitate engagement of the prosthetic patella with the trochlear groove of the femoral component as the patella transitions from the reduced constraint region to the trochlear groove.

  • Publication number: 20230200928
Abstract: Surgical methods and devices that facilitate registration of arthroscopic video to preoperative models are disclosed. With this technology, a machine learning model is applied to diagnostic video data captured via an arthroscope to identify an anatomical structure. An anatomical structure in a three-dimensional (3D) anatomical model is registered to the anatomical structure represented in the diagnostic video data. The 3D anatomical model is generated from preoperative image data. The anatomical structure is then tracked intraoperatively based on the registration and without requiring fixation of fiducial markers to the patient anatomy. A simulated projected view of the registered anatomical structure is generated from the 3D anatomical model based on a determined orientation of the arthroscope during capture of intraoperative video data. The simulated projected view is scaled and oriented based on one or more landmark features of the anatomical structure extracted from the intraoperative video data.

  • Patent number: 11684423
Abstract: A method for optimizing a knee arthroplasty surgical procedure includes receiving pre-operative data comprising (i) anatomical measurements of the patient, (ii) soft tissue measurements of the patient's anatomy, and (iii) implant parameters identifying an implant to be used in the knee arthroplasty surgical procedure. An equation set is selected from a plurality of pre-generated equation sets based on the pre-operative data. During the knee arthroplasty surgical procedure, patient-specific kinetic and kinematic response values are generated and displayed using an optimization process. The optimization process includes collecting intraoperative data from one or more surgical tools of a computer-assisted surgical system, and using the intraoperative data and the pre-operative data to solve the equation set, thereby yielding the patient-specific kinetic and kinematic response values. A visualization is then provided of the patient-specific kinetic and kinematic response values on the displays.
