  • Patent number: 5417850
Abstract: A band filter for the removal of foreign material particles from liquid baths, including a tub filled with liquid, guide rollers for a filter band arranged within the tub bath, the band being introduced into the tub from one side, guided with a spacing above the bottom of the tub and subsequently again conveyed out of the tub towards the top. The filter band being configured as a powered endless screen tissue band or as a filter fleece which is placed upon a support belt that is also driven in an endless manner. The filter fleece can in this case be unwound or reeled off a roller arranged outside of the tub, and a negative pressure chamber receiving the filtered liquid is arranged beneath the filter band. The faces of the filter band facing the bottom of the tub lie on a plurality of support faces extending transversely to the guidance direction of the filter band so as to be spaced from each other and parallel next to each other.

  • Patent number: 5412968
Abstract: A method and apparatus for leveling of metal sheets conveyed through leveling gaps formed by several adjustable upper and lower leveling rollers and adjusted as a function of the sheet cross-section and the nominal sheet strength is disclosed. After initial maximum deformation, the sheets are subsequently repeatedly bent in alternate directions with a greatly diminishing degree of deformation resulting in an improved operational mode if the leveling range of a leveling machine is expanded toward the thicker metal sheets by a smaller quantity of leveling rollers in engagement, and thus a larger roller pitch, in case of sheet thicknesses exceeding the nominal sheet thickness of the leveling range.

  • Patent number: 5339887
Abstract: A continuously cast steel strip which consists of a solidified casting shell and a liquid core is reduced in thickness in a roll deformation and is then rolled. In order to avoid undesired fluctuations in thickness, to improve the structure and to simplify the roll deformation unit, a steel strip billet of 40-80 mm thickness is cast, roll deformed to 15-40 mm thickness having a 2-15 mm residual liquid core in a maximum of three steps. • Patent number: 5331833
Abstract: A method of operating an upsetting press for reducing the width of a hot slab cast in a continuous casting plant by laterally pressing the slab between the pressing tools of the upsetting press which are moved toward each other and away from each other by an eccentric lifting member as the slab moves on a roller conveyor through the upsetting press. During the time phase in which the pressing tools have no contact with the slab, the slab is accelerated from a predetermined feeding speed and is subsequently decelerated to this predetermined feeding speed, reducing the upsetting of the slab.
