Abstract: A carbonate- and/or bicarbonate-iron-whey-proteolysate complex includes 1 to 1,000 atoms of iron and one or more molecules of carbonate and/or bicarbonate per one molecule of whey-protein as measured before whey proteolysis, and exhibits no specific iron taste. The carbonate- and/or bicarbonate-iron-whey proteolysate complex is used in drugs, foods, drinks, and animal feed for the purposes of an iron supplement for treatment and prevention of anemia.
Abstract: Iron-casein complexes and methods for preparation thereof without iron characteristic astringent taste even by heat sterilization and having high iron supplying effect.The iron-casein complexes can be obtained by mixing three components of solution A containing i) carbonic acid, ii) hydrogencarbonic acid or iii) their mixtures, solution B1 containing iron, and solution B2 containing caseins in a suitable order.The resultant iron-casein complexes contain 1-1,000 atoms of iron and one molecule or over of carbonic acid and/or hydrogencarbonic acid for one molecule of caseins without exhibiting astringent taste even by heat sterilization. The iron-casein complexes exhibit superior anemia preventive effect than those of inorganic iron salts.
Abstract: The present invention provides new tetralone or benzopyranone derivatives and a method for producing the derivatives useful for a therapeutic agent for preventing and/or treating hormone dependent diseases. The present invention is a new tetralone or benzopyranone derivative represented by a particular general formula (I). ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent hydrogen, a hydroxy group, an alkyloxy group or an aralkyloxy group, respectively, R.sub.3 -R.sub.7 represent hydrogen, a hydroxy group or a straight or branched alkyl, alkyloxy or aralkyloxy group having 1-6 carbon atoms, a halogen, an amino group or an alkylene dioxy group joined at R.sub.3 and R.sub.4, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6, or R.sub.6 and R.sub.7, respectively, and A represents a methylene or oxygen.In the production, a particular tetralone or benzopyranone compound and a particular benzaldehyde compound are reacted.
Abstract: A mango kernel triturate or mango kernel extract has a bacteriostatic and antibacterial activity, and thus can be used in food products or cosmetics as a bacteriostatic and antibacterial agent. Furthermore, agents for preventing and treating acne or agents for preventing dental caries can be provided by adding said extract as an effective component.
Abstract: A protein is provided derived from human fibroblast having an N-terminal amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NOS: 1 and 2, having a molecular weight of approximately 15kD under reducing and non-reducing conditions by (dosium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis), and having an activity to stimulate growth of osteoblast. The protein is produced by gene engineering procedures, contains the amino acid sequence represented by SEQ ID NO: 9 and has osteoblast growth activity. Also provided is a method for preparing the protein by culturing human fibroblast and treating the conditioned medium for purification. The protein is utilized for the treatment of diseases characterized by decreased bone mass such as osteoporosis or is utilized as an antigen for immunological diagnosis of diseases.
Abstract: Processed oats having a remarkably decreased viscosity when dispersed in hot water or boiling water, a method of preparing the same, and a food and beverage containing the same are disclosed. The processed oats may be prepared by contacting pressed oats with water or an aqueous protein solution and then drying the oats. The contacting of oats with the aqueous protein solution may be carried out before the pressing of the oats.

Abstract: A food container for microwave heating or cooking has: a bottom portion having an area which is covered with a microwave non-transmittable material and which is located between the center and the periphery of the bottom portion; a side wall having an area covered with a microwave non-transmittable material; and a leg structure provided under the bottom portion. The temperature rises in the center portion and near the circumferential side portion is facilitated, thereby effectively and easily achieving uniform heating of a food such as a frozen food.
Abstract: New isoquinoline derivatives and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts represented by the following general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein Ar is an aromatic ring which may be substituted, and n shows 0, 1 or 2, have an inhibitory activity against apoptotic neuronal cell death. These compounds are useful for agents of prevention and treatment of neuronal neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's chorea and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cerebral ischemic injury such as stroke, and peripheral neuropathy in diabetes mellitus.
Abstract: A method of preparing low fat sausage having a juicy feeling is provided by adding heat-denatured whey protein and emulsified composition comprising heat-denatured whey protein and edible oil and fat to raw material meat for sausage.The invention also provides low fat sausage which has the same meat structure and juicy feeling as usual sausage comprising animal fat such as hog fat and the like.
Abstract: Provided is a water soluble processed whey protein powder produced by combining a partial heat-denatured whey protein with a non-denatured whey protein. The resulting processed whey protein powder is more soluble in water than the partial heat-denatured whey protein alone, and is capable of producing a gel that is stronger than that produced from partial heat-denatured whey protein alone. Furthermore, the resulting gel exhibits high water retention, superior elasticity and smooth consistency and is useful in the manufacture of food. Provided also are methods for producing the processed whey protein powder and the gel.
Abstract: The present invention will provide an agent promoting bone formation and inhibiting bone resorption comprising kininogen and degradation product of kininogen as an effective ingredient. Fragment 1.multidot.2 is a preferable degradation product of kininogen.Further, the present invention will provide a drink, food, medicine and feed combined with kininogen and degradation product of kininogen.
Abstract: Micellar whey protein obtained by the heat treatment of whey protein having undergone limited hydrolysis by a proteolytic enzyme and containing whey protein molecules having a micellar structure similar to that of casein micelles, the micellar whey protein being characterized in that:(1) the molecules are in the form of micelles of irregular shape having a molecular weight of not less than 1,000,000 and a molecular size of 30 to 500 nm;(2) the micellar whey protein is soluble in water and gives a milk-white solution; and(3) the micelles associate together in a solution having a pH in the acid range of 3 to 6 to form insoluble aggregates.This micellar whey protein is so stable that it does not undergo gelation even when heated in solution, and can hence be widely utilized in liquid drink compositions, processed foods and the like.

Abstract: This invention provides compositions for fair-skin containing the phosphorylated polysaccharides produced by lactic acid bacteria as an effective ingredient.
