  • Patent number: 4773607
Abstract: An apparatus accumulating a filiform element in order to absorb differences in input and output travel speeds of the element, without tangling and damaging the element. Mechanical means located above an accumulation container draw the filiform element at the input speed and wind the filiform element in layers of coils stacked on the bottom of the container following an epicycloid or hypocycloid path. Two stationary concentric rings, respectively, attached to and suspended above the bottom of the container, guide the filiform element unwound at the output speed through the bottom of the container to the outside. The apparatus is particularly designed for a very fine and fragile filiform element such as an optical fiber, and is inserted between a multifibering machine and a cabling line.

  • Patent number: 4765863
Abstract: A method is disclosed for preparing a crystalline ingot of Hg.sub.1-x.sbsb.o Cd.sub.x.sbsb.o Te. Before moving a heated solvent zone for progressively dissolving ingot sources and giving rise to a single ingot, an adaptation zone is created from a monocrystalline germ by heating and cooling the solvent in contact with the germ, the ingot obtained is monocrystalline. The method of the invention in particular reduces the manufacturing costs of components such as infrared detectors and avalanche diodes.

  • Patent number: 4761635
Abstract: A method is provided for coding in the CMI code digital information organized in frames, wherein each frame locking word V, chosen equal to 1, is placed in the last position in the frame. The CMI code is violated at the position of said word V and, for keeping the statistics of the coding law, it is arranged for this violation to be alternately 00 and 11, from one frame to another. For this, immediately before the word V is inserted a binary filling word B, chosen by taking into account the number of binary "1"s before filling. If the number of binary "1"s before filling is even, the binary element B is coded like the violation of the frame locking word V and, in the opposite case, B is coded 01.

  • Patent number: 4744626
Abstract: A fiber optic connector comprises a planar holder, such as a printed circuit board, on which a photoelement is secured along a reference axis coaxial with an end of an optical fiber in a transmission system. The holder is secured by mechanical fasteners above a base member. A male member through which the fiber end runs is removably coupled mechanically to a female member integral with the base member such that an endface of the fiber end is opposite an end face of the photoelement along the reference axis. The holder carrying a photoelement, such as a photoreceiver, is positioned with respect to the female member coupled to the male member including the fiber end with the help of a micromanipulator and a dynamic adjustment responsive to an electrical signal derived from the photoreceiver receiving an optical signal transmitted by the fiber end.

  • Patent number: 4727481
Abstract: An addressing device for a memory, such as a dynamic memory ROM or RAM, addressable by address words at a predetermined clock-period rate. Each address word is made up of first and second address words composed of least significant and most significant bits of the address word respectively. The first and second address words are multiplexed. The device comprises an adding circuit for incrementing the first address words in terms of a predetermined digital signal carrying words that are synchronous with the first address words and for incrementing the second address word in each address word by unity whenever the first word of the address word has bits all equal to "1", and a shift circuit looped across the adding circuit in order to deliver the first and second multiplexed address words to the memory.

  • Patent number: 4694458
Abstract: A device is provided for stabilizing the frequency of an RF excitation laser, comprising a means for matching the impedance of the cavity of the laser with that at the output of the excitation generator. The matching means are connected through a line to a circulator which is connected to the generator and to an RF diode. A synchronous detector is connected to the outputs of the diode and of an oscillator. The output of the detector is connected through an integrator to a piezoelectric ceramic supporting one of the mirrors of the cavity of the laser, modulated by the oscillator. The phase shift between the signal reflected by the cavity and the signal of the oscillator and the amplitude of the former allow the cavity to be stabilized in frequency.

  • Patent number: 4682355
Abstract: The invention relates to a telephone subscriber electronic feeding bridge which includes a transformer with three windings, between the line of the sub set and the connection network of the telephone unit automatic exchange or autoswitch of which it forms a part. A capacitor is interposed on one of the two wires of the line, connected furthermore to feed resistors. The third winding of the transformer, associated with the winding of the line of the set, is looped on a negative impedance. This arrangement allows impedance matching both in direct current and in alternating current.

  • Patent number: 4660079
Abstract: This invention relates to digital transmission techniques whereby information produced in asynchronous form, for instance by variable-length coding and/or by conditional coding, is intended for transmission through a synchronous digital transmission path. More particularly, the invention concerns a receiving device comprising a picture buffer memory having a content that can be different from that of a picture buffer memory included in a transmitting device of the system, a circuit for detecting picture line and field synchronizations, a circuit for transcoding video information prior to its writing in the receiving device buffer memory and a circuit for monitoring writing and reading addresses in the buffer memory in terms of the detected synchronizations. A partial decoding of the video information is performed prior to entry in the receiving device buffer memory, and a synchronization of this memory is independent of the content in the transmitting device buffer memory.

  • Patent number: 4646328
Abstract: A frame alignment loss and recovery device for a digital signal carrying a frame alignment N-bit word comprises an (N+2)-stage shift register receiving the digital signal at a timing frequency H, a buffer register for extracting (N+2)-bit words from the shift register at a frequency H/3, a logic circuit for comparing each extracted word with three predetermined (N+2)-bit words respectively including N last bits, N central bits and N first bits identical to the alignment word bits in the signal, and a circuit for deriving a frame synchronization pulse in phase with the start of an alignment word contained in an extracted word having bits respectively identical to like-ranked bits in one of the three predetermined words. Because searching for the alignment word is at a frequency H/3, the logic circuit can include conventional PROM memories and alignment word errors can be tolerated despite a digital signal of high rate, for example, 34 Mbit/s.
