Abstract: A method and system for allocating memory in a RAID system. A RAID system requires the use of shared memory to store processed data related to operations of different mass storage devices. Certain RAID algorithms require different sizes of memory regions of the memory, and multiple requests to lock the required memory regions are therefore required. As multiple requests are made in parallel for different operations, the multiple requests for each operation are sorted in a predetermined order. This ensures that all memory regions for one operation can be locked. Requests for memory regions locked by a second operation are held in a pending state to wait for release of those memory regions by a first operation, at which point they are locked again by the second operation.

Abstract: A method of treating wastewater includes removing BOD and ammonium from the wastewater. The wastewater is directed into a tank where it is mixed with mixed liquor or activated sludge from an activated sludge wastewater treatment system. The mixture of wastewater and mixed liquor or activated sludge forms a mixed liquor stream. The mixed liquor stream is directed to a ballasted flocculation system where suspended solids is removed from the wastewater. This produces a clarified effluent that is directed to a zeolite tank. Clarified wastewater from the ballasted flocculation system is directed into the zeolite tank and mixed with zeolite. Zeolite is effective to remove ammonium from the wastewater. Thus, the process as a whole is effective in removing suspended solids, soluble BOD as a result of mixing the mixed liquor or activated sludge with the wastewater, and ammonium.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a reading circuit, a white reference member, a control circuit, a memory circuit, and a processing circuit. The control circuit controls the reading circuit to: cause a light source to irradiate the white reference member with lights of a plurality of colors and cause a light receiving unit to receive the reflected lights. The processing circuit performs a process to identify abnormal data included in white reference data stored in the memory circuit. The processing circuit identifies information on the abnormal data in a light of an abnormal-data detected color among the plurality of colors. The processing circuit identifies the abnormal data in lights of other colors excluding the abnormal-data detected color among the plurality of colors based on the information on the abnormal data. The information is identified for the light of the abnormal-data detected color.
Abstract: A system for removing salt from a process stream being fed into a flash separator introduces a swirling motive fluid into the fluid column of the separator. The swirling motive fluid comes into contact with salt components residing in the fluid of the column to create a salt slurry. Means to limit the upward movement of the swirling motive fluid can be provided. The salt slurry is then removed and can be sent to a brine generation vessel. Saturated brine from the vessel is transported back to the fluid column to replace the motive fluid in the column.
Abstract: A harvesting machine capable of automatic adjustment, comprising a plurality of acoustic material flow sensors, a control system, a processor, and application software, wherein the plurality of acoustic material flow sensors are mounted internal to the harvesting machine at points of crop material flow and are capable of sensing an amount of crop material passing by them, wherein the control system is capable of adjusting a plurality of internal elements of the harvesting machine, wherein the software is hosted on the processor, and the processor is operatively coupled to the control system and the acoustic material flow sensors, wherein the software uses information sensed by the acoustic material flow sensors to determine if the internal elements of the harvesting machine are set for optimal machine performance, and the software sends commands to the internal elements of the harvesting machine in order to improve the machine performance.

Abstract: A disconnection time acquisition system includes a response requesting circuit, a response determining circuit, a response circuit, a time storage circuit, and a time management circuit. The response determining circuit, in a network server, determines whether or not a response signal in response to a response request signal is received. The response circuit, in an electronic device, replies the response signal in response to the response request signal to the network server. The time storage circuit, in the network server, stores a time without the response signal when the response signal in response to the response request signal is not received. The time management circuit manages the time without the response signal as a disconnection time at which a power supply of the electronic device is disconnected when the power supply of the electronic device is turned on.
