Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a reusable yarn carrier tube around which yarn may be wound at high speeds (e.g., within winding machines). The yarn carrier tube may include a pick-up groove having structural features configured to better snag yarn to initiate winding of the yarn around the cylindrical body of the yarn carrier tube. The structural features may include an adaptable snagging feature that is adaptable to many different yarn types (e.g., diameter, denier, texture, material). The structural features may include projections (e.g., teeth) with incremental narrowing therebetween in the direction opposite to the rotational winding direction. The teeth may increase in sharpness (e.g., decreasing radii of curvature) as the yarn moves further into the pick-up groove.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for providing a product viewing window in a container. The container has at least a body ply and a liner ply, wherein the body ply has at least one aperture therethrough. The liner ply is adhered to the inner surface of the body ply and has a portion extending across the aperture, forming a window into the container. The method involves providing a window-finishing machine that comprises at least two platens and, optionally, a machine pocket positioned between them, a heating element extending through at least one of the platens, and a pressurized air device that is adapted to release pressurized air into the container through at least one of the platens. The container is engaged between the platens in an airtight manner and, optionally, the container window is positioned adjacent the inside wall of the machine pocket.

Abstract: A system for assembling a container and closure comprising an expanding collet which has a plurality of pivoting collet segments, each configured to simultaneously pivot radially outward about a pivot point. The collet comprises a lip that is engageable with the rim of the open end of the container and an angled tip positioned radially inward from the lip and shaped to press a countersink portion of the closure against an interior wall of the container as the collet segments pivot radially outward. As the container and the chuck are brought together, the rim engages with the lips of the collet segments and causes the angled tips of the collet segments to pivot outward toward the interior wall of the container, thereby pushing the countersink portion of the closure against the interior wall of the container.

Abstract: A paperboard winding tube of enhanced compression stiffness and resistance to deformations leading to ovality under gravity type loading is disclosed. The paperboard winding tube may include a cylindrical body wall formed from a plurality of structural paperboard layers with at least one central structural paperboard layer disposed between at least one radially inward structural paperboard layer and at least one radially outward structural paperboard layer. The radially inward and the radially outward structural paperboard layers may be formed of a paperboard ply of a first stiffness, and the central structural paperboard layer may be formed of a paperboard ply of a second stiffness that is less than the first stiffness. The arrangement of the plurality of structural paperboard layers increases the compression stiffness of the paperboard winding tube to resist deformations leading to ovality of the cylindrical body wall under gravity type loading of the paperboard winding tube.

Abstract: A sprinkler assembly for a flowable product container includes a sprinkler base and a sprinkler disk rotatably coupled to the sprinkler base. The sprinkler base includes a tongue defined by a shear area and a tongue hinge, with the tongue extending upward when the shear area is unbroken, and partially detached and rotatable to an open position when force is applied to break the shear area. The sprinkler disk has a pour aperture with a complimentary shape to the tongue so that the tongue extends through the pour aperture to prevent rotation of the sprinkler disk when the shear area is unbroken and not tampered, and rotates downward when the shear area is broken to allow the rotation of the sprinkler disk. The sprinkler assembly may be fabricated from materials such as polyethylene and polyurethane.

Abstract: Tub Insert System with Cross-Brace Holder for Top Loading Washer A tub insert for a top loading washing machine having a cabinet with a top opening, a lid, and a wash tub disposed within the cabinet may include a tub insert body shaped to engage the cabinet and the wash tub when the tub insert body is inserted through the top opening to substantially prevent movement of the wash tub relative to the cabinet. Cross-brace support panels having cross-brace openings extend from a top edge of the tub insert body upward through a gap between the lid and the cabinet on opposite sides of the lid. The cross-brace openings receive a cross-brace that extends across the cabinet to provide lateral support for a container in which the washing machine is shipped.

Abstract: A locking system for a spool comprising a barrel, a flange, and a sliding lock. The sliding lock has at least one rail that slidably engages with at least one barrel detent and at least one flange detent to prevent rotation of the flange on the barrel. The sliding lock comprises at least one arm with at least one catch. The at least one catch can be removably locked into at least one recess on the flange.

Abstract: A one-piece paper lid and container system using the one-piece paper lid is provided herein. The one-piece paper lid comprises base having a central portion and peripheral portion, and a circumferential bead disposed adjacent the peripheral portion of the base. The circumferential bead is radially extendable between an inward position defining a first inner diameter and an outward position defining a second inner diameter. The one-piece paper lid further comprises a skirt extending downward from the circumferential bead. The skirt comprises an outer sidewall, an inner sidewall and an upwardly extending curl connecting the outer sidewall and the inner sidewall, wherein the inner sidewall comprises an inner protrusion extending radially inward.

Abstract: A container assembly includes a container body having a side wall encircling an axis, and a metal end for attachment to an upper edge of the side wall via heat-sealing. The outer peripheral region is shaped prior to application to the container body such that an annular channel is defined between an inner chuck wall and an outer chuck wall of the metal end. The metal end is pushed straight onto the side wall such that the upper edge of the side wall is received into the channel. The surfaces of the side wall and the opposing surfaces of the chuck walls have heat-sealable material thereon. The metal end is heated to melt and fuse the heat-sealable layers, thereby sealing the metal end onto the side wall. The metal end is shaped such that the free edge of the outer chuck wall is not exposed.

A hanger assembly includes a display rod with mounting and dispensing ends, and a mounting bracket having a horizontal bracket flange that transitions to a vertical bracket flange at a first flange bend A rod aperture is formed through the vertical bracket flange proximate the first flange bend. The horizontal bracket flange is inserted through the lower slot, and the mounting end of the display rod is inserted through the lower slot and into the rod aperture so that the dispensing end is disposed distal to the backboard so the hanging packages hang in front of the backboard. The mounting area may have an upper slot through which the vertical bracket flange may be inserted, and the backboard and the hanger assembly may be fabricated from re-pulpable materials.

Abstract: A corner post for a plastic film wrapped package include a first corner post leg and a second corner post leg that intersect at a post corner. The outer wall of the first corner post leg includes a plurality of recessed areas extending inward from an outer surface of the outer wall and are longitudinally spaced to define a plurality of ribs along the outer wall. The recessed areas and ribs are spaced so that the ribs of corner posts of adjacent packages mesh to prevent relative vertical movement of the packages. The post corner of the corner post may include longitudinally spaced recessed edge contours extending inward that grab plastic film as it is stretched or heat shrunk around the package to prevent the plastic film from sliding along the corner post.

Abstract: A lid is disclosed herein. The lid comprises a base comprising a peripheral edge and a skirt extending downward from the peripheral edge. The skirt comprises a pair of release tabs diametrically opposite from one another. Each of the pair of release tabs are defined by a first cut and a second cut within the skirt which separates the release tab from the remainder of the skirt. Each of the release tabs is hingedly connected to the base. Each of the pair of the release tabs extend upwardly from the base, opposite the skirt. Each release tab further comprises a latching protrusion extending radially inward from an inner surface of the release tab towards a central axis of the lid.

Abstract: A child resistant container comprising a blister and a sleeve. The blister comprises a plurality of compartments arranged radially around a centrally disposed hub. Each compartment defines a cavity for holding contents. The container is a “dial pack” type container in that the blister can be rotated with respect to the sleeve to expose each cavity in turn.

Abstract: The invention comprises an ovenable packaging structure having an integral one-way valve. The laminate structure comprises an outer layer having a cut line which defines a flap that is separable from the outer layer, wherein the outer layer is adhered to an inner layer having a cut line which is offset from the outer cut line and defines a portion that is separable from the inner layer along the inner cut line and defines an opening into the packaging structure. The adhesive between the layers comprises, in an embodiment, a channel of pressure sensitive adhesive which surrounds both the outer cut line and the inner cut line, wherein the channel of pressure sensitive adhesive defines the perimeter of at least one adhesive-free valve chamber within said channel. The valve chamber comprises at least a portion of the outer cut line and the inner cut line.

Abstract: A moisture control mechanism that allows a desired amount of moisture to evaporate out of a multiple ply paperboard structure is provided. The moisture control mechanism comprises an adhesive that adheres the multiple plies together, the adhesive comprising dextrin and an acrylic polymer. Alternately or additionally, a strength preservation mechanism that allows a strength to be maintained even when a multiple ply paperboard structure is highly wet. The strength preservation mechanism comprises an adhesive that adheres multiple plies together, the adhesive comprising dextrin and an acrylic polymer.

Abstract: A heat sealing machine may include a heater assembly, a heat plate lock assembly supporting a heat plate in proximity to the heater assembly, and a lock mechanism allowing the heat plate lock assembly to alternately open and close. The heat plate may be replaced by a second heat plate by moving the lock mechanism to a retracted position, moving a heat plate lock assembly to move the first heat plate away from the heater assembly, removing the first heat plate from the heat plate lock assembly, inserting the second heat plate into the heat plate lock assembly, moving the heat plate lock assembly to move the second heat plate into engagement with the heater assembly, and moving the lock mechanism to a locked position to maintain the engagement between the second heat plate and the heater assembly.
