Abstract: A packaging system for a temperature sensitive payload is provided. The system includes insulative panels, including side panels and end panels, forming a product compartment. Cooling layers within the product compartment are located below and above the payload. Vertical posts disposed between the side panels and the payload and between the end panels and the payload create spaces and channels for convective air movement.
Abstract: A container includes a metal end applied and sealed to a container body by a crimp-seaming or double-seaming operation. The metal end has an outer curl joined to a chuck wall that extends down from the curl. One or both of the inner surface of the container side wall and the outer surface of the chuck wall has/have a heat-sealable material thereon. The metal end is crimp-seamed or double-seamed to the container body and the heat-sealable material(s) are heated to soften or melt such that the interface between the chuck wall and the side wall is fused. The interface is oriented along a direction relative to internal pressure exerted on the metal end such that stress on the interface caused by the internal pressure is predominantly shear stress.
Abstract: A method is provided of manufacturing a vacuum insulation panel using three-dimensional printing technology. Individual layers of core material are built up to produce a rectilinear core having a very small internal wall thickness and numerable hollow areas, thus creating a core having a highly porous surface. The highly engineered porous core is then encapsulated in a plastic, aluminum or composite envelope and a vacuum is applied. Once all or most of the gas molecules are removed, the engineered VIP delivers a high level of insulation.
Abstract: A refillable package combination includes a stand-up pouch accommodated within an outer container that includes a hollow shell with an open bottom. The stand-up pouch is inserted through the open bottom and a corner spout of the pouch is inserted through an opening in a slanted corner panel of the hollow shell. Frictional engagement between the corner spout and the opening secures the spout to the corner panel and pouch within the hollow shell.
Abstract: An easy-to-maneuver reel for carrying wound product is provided. The reel comprises at least one flange that can rotate independently of the drum.
Abstract: A track and handle assembly for use with a flexible package is provided. The rigid box-like track has a top wall defining an elongated slot. The track may be recessed within an opening in the package wall. The handle assembly comprises a flexible handle and moveable guide members captured within the track and biased away from each other by the resiliently flexible handle. The handle assembly is moveable between a first position in which the handle is flat and a second position in which the handle is arc shaped.
Abstract: A combination container and latch is provided. The container comprises a body, a lid hingedly attached to the body and a pivoting latch that minimizes the possibility of the latch becoming entangled in the lid or damaged. The latch is moveable between a locked position in which the latch is distended and extends vertically upward within a body recess and a lid recess to engage a locking post, and an open position in which the latch is relaxed and extends horizontally within the body recess. The container and latch are designed so that the latch never extends beyond the container footprint.
Abstract: A modular packaging system for shipping and displaying palletized products is provided. The packaging system comprises a plurality of vertically stacked trays for holding the products and corner posts extending between vertically adjacent trays for spacing and supporting the trays. The corner posts and trays are locked together in a number of ways to strengthen and stabilize the system. The system is strong enough not only to support the weight of the products on the trays and withstand the vibration and impact forces that can occur during shipping, but to withstand the weight of one or more units stacked on top.

Abstract: A hybrid pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) composition includes (i) a solvent phase comprising a first acrylic PSA dissolved in an organic solvent, an alcohol, and optionally water; and (ii) an emulsion phase comprising a second, emulsified acrylic PSA. In another aspect, a metalized film laminate includes a metalized film layer, a hybrid PSA layer, and an ink-containing polymeric film layer. The two-phase hybrid PSA system effectively addresses both metal tear and ink pick problems associated with conventional metalized film laminates.

Abstract: A package integrity feature for a recloseable package is provided. The recloseable package may be made from a laminate film and may comprise a scored inner layer having a machine direction and a scored outer layer laminated together with both permanent adhesive and pressure sensitive adhesive to form a recloseable flap that covers an opening in a package body. The package integrity feature may be a strip of material cut into the inner layer of the laminate film in such a way that the strip breaks when the package is opened, leaving one end of the strip attached to the package body and the opposite end attached to the recloseable flap.

Abstract: A method of forming a higher density bale of waste paper from two or more lower density bales of waste paper includes positioning the lower density bales intact and in side-by-side relationship with respect to each other, moving them to a compression zone, and compressing the bales together in the compression zone to form a higher density bale. The higher density bale can then be strapped to maintain its higher density configuration and shape. Thus, a larger tonnage of waste paper in bales can be loaded into a shipping container for transport. A rebaler for carrying out the method includes side feed and side retrieval of bales, significantly improving over traditional top feed machines.
Abstract: A collapsible reel that can be broken down into smaller components for ease of shipping or to change out the drum is provided. The reel comprises a drum assembly, a pair of flanges and a pair of coupling assemblies for removably affixing each flange to the drum assembly.
Abstract: An insulated dual-temperature container for use in transporting multiple payloads that require different temperature environments is provided.
Abstract: A phase change device for controlling temperature within a confined environment, comprising a foam material, a phase change material, the phase change material being absorbed into the foam, and a protective covering encasing the foam material/phase change material. A method for making a phase change device for controlling temperature within a confined environment, comprising providing a phase change material, providing a foam material, absorbing the phase change material into the foam material, and sealing the foam material/phase change material within a protective covering.

Abstract: A cable reel for holding a cable wound thereon that includes a cylindrical drum having a longitudinal axis, a first end, and a second end spaced from the first end. The cable reel also includes a first flange that is coupled to the first end of the cylindrical drum and a second flange that is coupled to the second end of the cylindrical drum. The cable reel further includes a spacer that extends axially outward from the first flange. The spacer is configured to support the reel with the first flange spaced above a support surface when the longitudinal axis of the reel is in a substantially vertical orientation and with the reel being supported on the support surface by the spacer.
Abstract: A thermally insulated pallet shipper is provided for use in any industry where temperature sensitive products are shipped, including the pharmaceutical, hospital and food industries, particularly for shipping payloads by air. The pallet shipper is made from just four individual foam molded structures: a base, a first corner structure, a second corner structure and a lid.
Abstract: A closure is provided for use in covering an opening in a container and engaging a peripheral rim defining the opening. The closure includes a body for covering the container opening and a plurality of projecting portions that extend from a periphery of the body. The projecting portions are spaced from one another around the periphery of the body, with each formed to surround a portion of the container rim. A ring is connected to the projecting portions and surrounds the container rim. A plurality of retaining fingers are provided, with each fingers spaced from one another and interleaved within the spacing between adjacent projecting portions. The fingers project inwardly from the ring and include a projected end for engagement with the container rim. The projected ends of the fingers include a varied or undulating surface.

The shipper comprises an outer shell, an inner shell and vacuum insulated panels sandwiched therebetween. The outer shell and the inner shell may be unitary rigid structures made of an expanded foam material and comprising a bottom having a perimeter and sides extending from the bottom perimeter and terminating in a rim. The inner shell rim may be spaced from the outer shell rim to define a gap, the gap being sealed to create an enclosed space within which the vacuum insulated panels are located. Each vacuum insulated panel may be oriented substantially orthogonally to at least one adjacent vacuum insulated panel and have an edge that abuts the adjacent vacuum insulated panels.
