  • Patent number: 5785239
Abstract: A carton divider having vertically oriented longitudinal partitions and vertically oriented transverse partitions interengaged to form a grid of cells for receiving glass containers or the like. Adjacent cells share a wall having opposing faces, and a vertically extending reinforcing strip is mounted only on a medial portion of at least one of the opposing faces of each wall. The reinforcing strips thus provide adequate cushioning protection for the containers to be packaged in the carton, while minimizing the amount of the material required to fabricated the partitions.

  • Patent number: 5718397
Abstract: A reel is provided for the winding and unwinding of wire or the like. The reel includes a cylindrical hub having a pair of flanges, one at each end of the hub. The hub includes an inner cylindrical wall defining a central hollow bore through the center of the reel. An outer cylindrical wall is provided concentrically around the inner wall and forms a barrel surface for the winding of the coiled wire (or the like) thereon. The flanges serve to protect the wire wound on the barrel surface. A frusto-conical or tapered wall is provided at opposite ends of the reel to connect the inner wall of the hub to the radially projecting flange. The frusto-conical wall includes at least one opening or window therein, providing a handle for lifting the reel from a package or carton. The reel may also be provided with a series of concentric cylindrical support ribs within the hollow portion defined by the flanges. • Patent number: 5713824
Abstract: A method is provided of manufacturing an easy-open container. A bodywall layer strip is positioned on a wider liner layer strip to define first and second edge portions on the side of the wider liner layer which extends transversely beyond the bodywall layer side edges. These layers are fed to a mandrel and the first liner layer edge portion is folded-over onto an outside surface of the bodywall layer and a high strength bond is formed therebetween. The resulting layers are spirally wound on the mandrel to form a continuous tube having a spiral seam with the bodywall layer side edges forming a butt joint and with each of the first and second liner layer edge portions extending through the butt joint and out of the spiral seam. The second liner layer edge portion is positioned on the first folded-over liner layer edge portion and a low strength bond is formed therebetween. A flexible label layer is spirally wound onto the tube on the mandrel with its longitudinal edges in overlapped relationship.

  • Patent number: 5713484
Abstract: A two-piece plastic container and removable cover is provided which is particularly adaptable for containing flowable products. The removable cover comprises a one-piece molded generally circular cover having an annular sealing projection extending generally downwardly in a perpendicular direction from an outer periphery of the cover and an annular locking projection extending generally upwardly in a perpendicular direction from the outer periphery of the cover. The container comprises a one-piece molded cylindrical body having a closed bottom and an open top. Two spaced concentric annular inside and outside projections extend longitudinally upwardly from the open top of the body of the container and define therebetween a cover sealing cavity for receiving the cover sealing projection and cooperating therewith to seal the cover on the container.

  • Patent number: 5711142
Abstract: An adapter rotatably supports a tubular end of a yarn carrier in a take-up winding assembly of a yarn processing machine which accommodates the placement of a yarn transfer tail across an end surface of the yarn carrier between the yarn carrier and the adapter without breaking or cutting of the yarn transfer tail during winding of the yarn. The adapter includes a hub portion for extending axially into the tubular end of the yarn carrier to center the yarn carrier on the adapter and which has an outside surface with a cross-sectional diameter less than the diameter of an adjacent inside surface of the yarn carrier for defining a space therebetween to accommodate the placement of the yarn tail. An annular flange portion extends radially outwardly from the rear of the hub portion and has an inside surface for being positioned adjacent the end surface of the yarn carrier.

  • Patent number: 5699683
Abstract: A yarn carrier is provided of the type including a substantially rigid tubular core having passageways through the sidewall thereof for the passage of dye or wet finishing bath into the yarn to be wrapped thereon. A filter sleeve is wrapped around the outer surface of the tubular core to prevent entrapment of the yarn in the passageways and for filtering the dye and/or finishing bath. The filter sleeve is formed from a filter material which is wrapped into a sleeve and abutting edges of the filter material are bonded together along a seam. The seam is contemplated to be substantially continuous and extend the length of the sleeve. The tubular sleeve is slid over or heat shrunk onto the outside surface of the tubular core prior to the winding of the yarn thereon.

  • Patent number: 5667173
Abstract: A compact rack construction is provided for mounting a pack of thermoplastic grocery or retail product bags of the T-shirt type and which includes a frame and a pair of generally horizontally and outwardly extending laterally-spaced support arms for receiving the apertures in the handles of the bags in the pack at an outer end portion and for mounting the bag pack on a horizontal portion for consecutive opening and removal of the bags from the bag pack and from the rack. Each of the support arms include an upper surface and a lower surface extending horizontally from the frame to define the horizontal portion of the support arms therebetween and then extending upwardly from horizontal at predetermined different angles and being joined at outer ends to each other by a loop surface formed with a smooth radius to define the support arm outer end portion therebetween. The upward extension of said lower surface is offset forward with respect to the upward extension of said upper surface.

  • Patent number: 5630982
Abstract: A method and apparatus for extruding thermoplastic tubing of reduced eccentricity, in which tubing is extruded into a vacuum calibration box containing a cooling fluid and a sizing collar. An ultrasonic device for measuring wall thicknesses around the periphery of the tubing is located downstream of the sizing collar. The wall measurements are used to determine a critical parameter, and if this critical parameter is outside of a predetermined range, the vacuum calibration box is moved in the direction of greater wall thickness. After a delay which allows the product of the correction to reach the ultrasonic device, the box is again moved if necessary, until the critical parameter is within the predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 5610837
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for nondestructive vibrational testing of a specimen, such as a paper core tube. The system analyzes transverse vibrations of the simply supported specimen. The system measures the weight change at one end of the specimen and determines the frequency of vibration and the rate of energy loss. The testing is such that the specimen can be used after testing.
