  • Patent number: 4523314
Abstract: An improved error indicating system utilizing adder circuits for use with an error correction code system capable of detecting and indicating multiple bit errors and detecting and correcting single bit errors is described. The system utilizes an encoding system for generating a plurality of check bits, each check bit associated with a predetermined bit grouping of data bits within a data word. When a data word is accessed, read check bits are reconstituted from the read data and are compared to the check bits originally encoded. Syndrome bits are generated from the originally encoded check bits and the reconstituted read check bits, the syndrome bits thus generated, serving to identify whether the data word accessed contains no errors, a single bit error, or a multiple bit error. Decoder circuitry for decoding the syndrome bits and effecting the control signals for controlling the correction of single bit errors is described.

  • Patent number: 4523210
Abstract: A high speed multiplier circuit is disclosed which not only provides increased performance for the multiply operations of a large scale processor but also provides for single bit error detection of results as well. It incorporates a gated carry/save adder array to eliminate the decoding of multiplier characters thereby reducing logic levels and enhancing performance. A means is illustrated for detecting single bit errors without redundancy or performance loss. While the array proper is more complex than other multibit algorithms, the multiplexers needed by those earlier systems are no longer required. The small increase in complexity of the array proper eliminates the need for decoding of the multiplier bits or other interaction between the multiplier groups. The net effect is a reduction in logic with faster operation because of the omission of the decoding requirement.

  • Patent number: 4523275
Abstract: In a system having a host processor connected through a storage control unit to a cache store and a plurality of disk devices, segments of data which have been written to, while resident in the cache store, are transferred to the disks at some later time. If an abnormal condition, such as a bad spot on the disk, prevents the transfer of a segment from the cache store to the disk, an indicator is set for that segment by the storage control unit to prevent further attempts to transfer the segment. A segment whose indicator is set remains in the cache store until the host processor issues an initialize or a reset segment command.

  • Patent number: 4522018
Abstract: A laterally shiftable draper header for a windrower is disclosed wherein a pair of draper sections are laterally shiftable on the header subframe to vary the position of the crop discharge opening between left, right and central positions. When the discharge opening is positioned at a central location between separated draper sections, it is necessary that the draper conveyors rotate in opposing directions to deliver crop material to the discharge opening. However, when the draper sections are positioned adjacent one another and shifted to one side of the machine or the other it is necessary for the draper conveyors to rotate in the same direction to convey crop to the discharge opening.

  • Patent number: 4520439
Abstract: A variable field partial write system for merging data bits in a memory word or words upon programmable request is described. The variable bit field can be selected for any number of bit positions from a single bit up to and including a full data word, where data words are comprised of a predetermined number of bytes each containing a predetermined number of bits. A starting bit code defines the location of the start of the bit field to be written and a field length code defines the number of bits that are to be merged and written. The combination of the starting bit code and the field length code define the ending bit control for the bits to be written, and are further utilized to control word boundary crossing into the next sequentially addressed memory word when the bit field to be written cannot be completed in the addressed word.

  • Patent number: 4519209
Abstract: Grinder-mixers include a material infeed device such as a feed table for feeding bales of hay to be ground up and incorporated into livestock feed rations. Due to varying bale density, the bale grinder sometimes lugs down when encountering a dense bale. However, if the feed table continues to feed bales during such a lug down, the grinder may clog and stall. A bypass apparatus solves the feed table problem by providing a bypass valve automatically operable to stop motion of the feed table when a lug down occurs.

  • Patent number: 4519047
Abstract: A printing system incorporates a character generator having circuitry for the generation of proportional width printing. Further circuitry is utilized in conjunction with the foregoing circuitry to operate the system in a tabular mode for the columnar presentation of printed material. Two memories are employed. One memory stores data as to the components of characters which are to be printed, the data being stored in predesignated sets of addresses. Each of these components may be addressed by an address counter preset for counting through the set of addresses of a selected character. A tabbing or print signal is stored in the second memory to serve as position data in the tabbing mode. The second memory is addressed concurrently with a scanning of a print line whereby the stored data corresponds to a position on the print line.

  • Patent number: 4518857
Abstract: A pressure and temperature compensated acoustic transducer utilizing a pressure sensitive birefringent element coupled between a flexible diaphragm sealing the transducer and an internal variable rigid diaphragm that forms two internal chambers. Relatively rapid variation in pressure applied to the birefrigent element cause fluctuations in the phase difference between orthogonal components of a polarized light beam traversing the photo-elastic material. Detections of this phase difference variation provides signals representative of incident acoustic signals. Provision for the transfer of liquid filling the chambers permits the equalization between the two chambers of slowly varying internal pressures caused by changes in external ambient pressure and temperature.

  • Patent number: 4517567
Abstract: The radar trigger and pretrigger generator determines the inherent component time delay through the radar modulator and transmitter during a first cycle of operation. During the next cycle of operation a pretrigger pulse is generated after a time corresponding to the previously measured delay and a trigger pulse is generated after a time corresponding to an operator selectable delay. The trigger pulse is used to trigger the radar modulator, which in effect, permits the operator to control the elapsed time between pretrigger pulse and transmitter firing in a fashion which is completely independent of circuit delay variances through the radar modulator and transmitter.

  • Patent number: 4516837
Abstract: An optical 1.times.N switch uses a polarizing beam splitter cube and a reflector to separate an arbitrarily polarized incident light beam into polarized components which propagate along parallel paths. A polarization rotator is positioned in the path of the reflected component to rotate the plane of polarization of the light beam component propagating therealong to be coplanar with that of the undeviated light beam in the parallel path. The two beams are simultaneously or individually deflected by selectively activating the electrodes of a liquid crystal nematic reflector/transmitter array confined between prismatic bodies to emerge at one or more of a plurality of desired outputs. In a second embodiment, a second polarization rotator and polarizing beam combiner assembly re-establishes the initial polarization and the beams are thereby combined to emerge from one or more selected output terminals as an arbitrarily polarized light beam.
