  • Patent number: 4547972
Abstract: An angular measuring system consisting of one or more sensors that transmit angular measurements to a central control unit where numerical readout of any selected sensor is provided. A threshold can be preset at individual sensors or the control unit for an allowable angular deviation, beyond which a warning device is actuated. The circuitry permits locating the sensors remotely from the console and provides precision and stability of operation. Low power consumption permits extended operating periods with internal batteries. False alarms are minimized by incorporating a hysteresis loop in the threshold detection circuitry.

  • Patent number: 4548214
Abstract: A cleaning apparatus for a combine harvester is disclosed wherein the grain pan and sieves are mounted in a shaker shoe pivotally supported on the main frame of the combine for movement about a transversely extending axis. Hydraulic actuators interconnecting the main frame and the shaker shoe affect a pivotal movement of the shaker shoe to level the cleaning apparatus under conditions where the combine has an inclined fore-and-aft orientation. An inclinometer is utilized to control the flow of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic actuators to permit the shaker shoe to be leveled in response to a sensing of a non-horizontal fore-and-aft inclination by the inclinometer.

  • Patent number: 4549280
Abstract: A multiply pipeline with parity circuit to be used as a building block in a multiplication pipeline of arbitrary size is disclosed. It includes circuits for generating and checking parity. The parity of the output carries leaving the component chips of the multiply pipeline are explicitly generated internally to those chips. By generating output carry parity on-chip, all single-bit errors except for those caused by on-chip internal gate or metallization faults will be detected. Thus, means are provided for detection of single-bit errors in the multiplication circuitry. The proposed multiply pipeline with parity circuit includes a pair of gate arrays, or chips, which participate as follows. A 6-bit by 6-bit multiply with parity chip is used as a building block in a portion of the pipeline in which all logical products are initially generated, and reduction of these logical products, or partial products, commences.

  • Patent number: 4547797
Abstract: An apparatus for color and brightness correction for a multi-gun color CRT display, providing compensation for variation in phosphor efficiency with cathode energization and for color tracking between guns. The brightness correction circuit is required to respond only to essentially DC changes, while a color selection circuit responds at a video rate. In a preferred digital embodiment, brightness and color tracking correction factors are stored in memory dedicated to a particular CRT, and addressed in response to input from a reference brightness level selected by an operator. A color selection decoder having stored in a second memory relative brightness characteristics of each color phosphor as a function of the hue commanded converts an input binary command to an analog output, which is combined with the brightness and color tracking correction factor to determine the resulting cathode energization for each color gun.

  • Patent number: 4546430
Abstract: In a system wherein a central computer complex is connected through central control modules (CCM) and channel modules (CM) to the control units of peripheral subsystems, a first queue is maintained in a CCM for Start I/O Fast (SIOF) commands waiting to be accepted by the CMs connected thereto. After a CM accepts an SIOF command and passes it on to a control unit, the control unit may return to the CM a busy status which is then passed through to the CCM. The CCM maintains a control unit busy (CUB) queue and an entry is made therein when busy status is returned. When a control unit reports control unit end status to the CCM, the CUB queue is linked to the top of the SIOF so that the CMs may again be informed that the SIOF commands are available. The arrangement avoids two interruptions of the central computer complex to report first that the control unit is busy and then that the control unit is available.

  • Patent number: 4546349
Abstract: Apparatus for selectively extracting, magnifying and juxtapositioning selected areas of a raster scan image relative to the primary image so as to permit an observer to better view selected areas of the primary image while still viewing the entire primary image. The apparatus essentially comprises means for sampling x and y radar address data and related video data, means for independently and selectively scaling and offsetting the address data for a primary image memory and for a local zoom memory and means for selecting the areas of the primary image that are to be magnified. The selected areas of the primary image are displayed at a rate defined by a zoom magnification factor, scaled and offset independent of the primary image--but relative to the local zoom area, and displayed by extracting the data from the local zoom memory, rather than the primary image memory, as the display raster scans the areas of the screen where the zoom image is to be displayed.

  • Patent number: 4544963
Abstract: Circuitry for distinguishing each value in a read signal magnetically recorded in ternary-3 position modulation in which the values 1, 2 and 0 are detected and equalized into a singlet, a doublet and absence of magnetic flux change. The circuitry first determines the position locations of each singlet peak and doublet crossover point to establish proper timing of the output signals and then identifies the particular type of signal appearing at the timing points in the read signal sequence. Singlets are identified by the much greater amplitudes in the integrated read signal. Doublets are identified as waveforms having slopes at zero crossovers that correspond in polarity to that of the previous singlet. A novel detector circuit is provided that can correctly identify doublets in a code sequence, irrespective of the presence of a previous singlet, when a recording rule is followed that includes the insertion of a number of consecutive ternary 0 symbols into the recorded signal.

  • Patent number: 4544961
Abstract: A quaternary saturated digital magnetic recording system for enhancing information entropy provides an effective bit density increase of 100% or more over the MFM code. In the simplest implementation, groups of two input binary bits are mapped into one data cell, preferably into four combinations of long or short breaks and positive or negative polarity, with the break optionally centralized within the data cell for self-clocking. A system for reproducing the recorded information provides a peak detector, responsive to the recorded signal, coupled to pulse polarity and break width detector circuitry, with an internally synchronized clock, for remapping the recorded data into binary format.

  • Patent number: 4536781
Abstract: A superconductive junction device for fabricating Josephson integrated circuits is useful for replacing deposited thin-film resistors and for short-circuit device interconnections. Derived by "poisoning" a superconductive electrode or altering the barrier of a tunnel junction, the device displays controllable resistive properties at normal superconducting transition temperatures at substantial savings in the space occupied. Methods of fabricating the device using the selective niobium anodization process and ion implantation process are disclosed. When both upper and lower superconductive electrodes are poisoned, the device has linear properties whose resistance is identical to the normal resistance of unpoisoned junctions. Superconducting short circuits are readily obtained by oxygen ion implantation in thin film niobium electrodes.
