  • Patent number: 9136957
Abstract: A method of activating mobile devices for events is provided. A mobile device owner pays for a subscription to receive local broadcasts of an event on a mobile device. An employee uses a scanner to scan a bar code on the mobile device, or the mobile device owner inputs information identifying the mobile device through a website. A database manager adds an identifier corresponding to the mobile device to an activation list. The broadcaster includes the activation list in the local broadcast stream, thereby activating the subscribed mobile devices for the event.

  • Patent number: 9137026
Abstract: Methods, media, and systems are provided for switching delivery of streaming services to dual-network mobile devices. Instances of streaming content can be first delivered by a network of a first protocol to the mobile device, then delivered by a network that uses a second protocol. This transition takes place seamlessly as the handoff changes the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the receiving device through a connection session controller (CSC) server and a switching helper application (SHA) on the mobile device. A session identifier ensures the appropriate streaming instance is paused, resumed, and redirected. The dual-network wireless device is configured to include an SHA configured to initiate and complete a switch of service in conjunction with the CSC.

  • Patent number: 9137837
Abstract: Proxy mobile IP provides mobility to a mobile device that is not equipped to perform client mobile IP by moving the mobile IP signaling responsibility from the mobile device into the network. A network element performs the mobile IP signaling on behalf of the mobile device. In one scenario, the mobile device establishes a PPP session with a foreign agent, with no mobile IP signaling on top of the PPP session. The foreign agent then performs mobile IP signaling with the mobile device's home agent to negotiate a proxy mobile IP session for the device. Once the session registration lifetime has been established by the foreign agent and the home agent, the foreign agent communicates the registration lifetime to the mobile device by way of a PPP vendor-specific packet.

  • Patent number: 9137667
Abstract: Visual voicemail enables a user to view a list of voicemail messages and caller information, and select which messages to hear. Currently, a handset accesses visual voicemail using a web interface over a point-to-point network connection with an intermediary gateway. The gateway initiates requests to the voicemail platform on behalf of the handset using a single generic password. There is no direct authentication between the handset client and the voicemail platform. In an embodiment of the invention, the handset requests a password from the voicemail platform using the web interface. The voicemail platform sends a password to the handset via a Short Message Service text message, which is an inherently secure means of communication. The handset then uses the password to request voicemail data from the voicemail platform via the web interface.

  • Patent number: 9137767
Abstract: The invention is directed to methods and systems for generating frequency reference signals from a radio signal received from a large-coverage access component, such as a base station. The radio signal is received and processed by an oscillator to filter out abnormalities. Consequently, a frequency reference signal is generated that is encapsulated into packets and delivered to one or more small-coverage access components using the Precision Timing Protocol or some other protocol that is useable by the small-coverage access components. The small-coverage access components comprise one or more of a femtocell or a picocell.

  • Patent number: 9130798
Abstract: The invention is directed to methods and systems for managing internet protocol (IP) addresses. In particular, the invention provides an approach to reuse IP address among multiple devices by combining the IP address and a unique code. By including a unique code, each mobile device using the same IP address is still easily identified. Further, the invention allows for reusing IP addresses within a single telecommunications sector such that devices in the same area may use the same IP address.

  • Patent number: 9124333
Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for improving uplink performance of an antenna array configured for downlink beam forming. Beam forming requires an antenna element spacing that results in correlated downlink signals. Uplink reception preferably uses an element spacing such that uplink signals are uncorrelated. For an eight-element antenna configured for beam forming, using eight-branch combining to produce a single resultant signal is thus less than optimal. In an embodiment, non-adjacent elements in the antenna array, which receive uncorrelated signals, may be combined in pairs with two-branch combining. The four resultant signals may then be combined using four-branch combining to provide a single resultant signal.

  • Patent number: 9125132
Abstract: Multiple mobile devices can request or wait for acknowledgement from a device associated with a mobile telecommunications network. Embodiments of the present invention include creating and broadcasting a single acknowledgment to multiple mobile devices. Mobile devices can be associated with identifiers that include sets of characters. In order to acknowledge more than one device with one broadcast, subsets of characters from more than one identifier can be included in one value. One acknowledgement is broadcast to multiple devices. The devices are able to identify the unique subsets of characters and compare them to portions of identifiers. Multiple devices can recognize acknowledgement based on a shared value that is broadcast to the devices.

  • Patent number: 9125011
Abstract: In a wireless communication network, wireless communication devices receive user instructions indicating geographic control of associated user data sets. The wireless communication devices translate the user instructions into geo-control tags for the associated user data sets and include the geo-control tags in the associated user data sets. The wireless communication devices exchange wireless signals transporting the user data sets and their geo-control tags with wireless access points. The wireless access points individually control wireless egress of the user data sets based on their geo-control tags.
