  • Patent number: 7206593
Abstract: A mobile station in a wireless network can be assigned a priority level. The wireless network may support two or more different priority levels. A mobile station's priority level may be stored in a database containing other identifiers, such as the mobile station's electronic serial number and mobile identification number. The priority level can be stored as a part of a profile in the home location register or in a visitor location register. When the mobile station attempt to access the wireless network, the access request can be serviced based on the priority of the mobile station. The access request may also be serviced based on a current usage status of the wireless telecommunications network. Mobile stations with higher priorities may receive a preference for access to the wireless network's resources. Mobile stations with lower priorities may be disconnected from the wireless network to accommodate a higher priority mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7200397
Abstract: A mobile station communicating with a first radio network may detect that it has changed location and thereafter stopped moving. In response to determining that it has changed location and thereafter stopped moving, the mobile station may perform one or more predetermined actions. For example, the mobile station may be communicating with a first radio network, such as a WWAN. In response to this determination, the mobile station may check the availability of a second radio network, such as a WLAN. If the second radio network is available, the mobile station may begin accessing the second radio network for voice, data or other services.

  • Patent number: 7197288
Abstract: A method and system of communicating between a base station and a mobile station is disclosed. The base station may be the core of a cell site, which is defined by radio frequency radiation patterns. The cell site may be divided into a number of sectors, each defined respectively by radiation patterns. The mobile station, while within any of the sectors of the cell site, may communicate with the base station on a reverse link by encoding signals using a spreading sequence offset by a common time delay. On the forward link, each sector is assigned a respective time delay that is within the common time delay. While within a respective sector of the cell site, the mobile station may receive signals from the base station on the forward link that have been encoded with the spreading sequence offset by the sector's respective time delay.

  • Patent number: 7197322
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for facilitating location-based services. In an exemplary arrangement, when a mobile station is engaged in a data session with a server, the mobile station may be made to initiate a voice call to a designated number. As a result, a switch or other such entity may send a signaling message (such as an Origination Request message) to a central controller, thereby providing the central controller with an indication of the mobile station's current location. The central controller may then make that location information available to the server. In turn, the server may use the location to perform a location based service, such as providing location-based information to the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 7190969
Abstract: A system and method for managing multiple mobile stations provisioned for use by a single user with a common mobile identification number (MIN). In an advanced intelligent network, a call control system may receive requests to set one of the multiple mobile stations to an active state. The call control system may also receive requests to set one or more of the multiple mobile stations to an inactive state. The call control system stores the active or inactive indication in a subscriber profile database. When a request is made to register one of the multiple mobile stations for service, the call control system determines if the mobile station is active or inactive. If the mobile station is inactive, it is not permitted to register. If the mobile station is active, it is permitted to register.

  • Patent number: 7155226
Abstract: A method for serving multiple mobile stations under a common mobile identification number (MIN). A service provider assigns the common MIN to multiple mobile stations and maintains a subscriber profile that associates the MIN with the electronic serial numbers (ESNs) of the mobile stations. However, the service provider allows the MIN to be associated with at most one mobile station that is arranged to respond to a MIN-based termination message. As a result, when the service provider seeks to terminate a call through signaling keyed to the MIN, only one of the mobile stations will respond (e.g., begin to ring). At the same time, all of the mobile stations having the common MIN can originate calls through signaling keyed to their MIN and ESN (since the MIN/ESN pair should uniquely identify the originating station).

  • Patent number: 7149535
Abstract: A method and system for initiating re-paging of a mobile station at an interval that is a function of the mobile station's paging slot cycle. A radio access network will select a time interval based on a mobile station's slot cycle index and will conclude that a page attempt has failed if the radio access network does not receive a page response from the mobile station by the expiration of the time interval after paging the mobile station. Upon expiration of the time interval, the radio access network will then re-page the mobile station at a next timeslot commensurate with the slot cycle index being used for paging the mobile station.
