  • Publication number: 20110270958
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for generating a bearer setup request in a mobile, or other, communication system. An application-level bearer setup request generator is positioned at the application level of the communication system. A request is forwarded to a transport level. And a bearer setup request signal generator, located at the transport level, generates a transport-level bearer setup request that is routed to the bearer manager. Bearer setup is performed by the bearer manager and a response is provided through the transport layer to the application level, and back to a communication node when the bearer setup is performed.

  • Patent number: 8027281
Abstract: An optional short SACCH is used when the network detects high error rate in the normal SACCH channel. The communication returns to normal mode when the network detects that the link quality has improved. In the short SACCH message only the most relevant information fields are sent. The extra bits are used for channel coding so that in the channel conditions where the most robust AMR codings still work, the BLER of short SACCH is still tolerable.

  • Patent number: 8005482
Abstract: A method of performing compressed mode measurements for selecting communication means in a communication system. Statistics are collected on handovers from a cell in a communications system to a plurality of other cells in the communications system. A cell load of each cell of the plurality of other cells is weighted by a percentage of handovers from the cell to the respective one of the plurality of other cells. A threshold is determined based on the weighted cell loads. The threshold can be used to trigger a load based handover from the cell to one of the plurality of other cells.

  • Patent number: 7995997
Abstract: A computer-readable medium, device and system for responding to a request for a geographically-based service are provided. A request for a geographically-based service is received. The received request indicates that a geographical position of a target node and a radius associated with a maximum distance from the geographical position is requested. A requesting service message is formatted that is associated with a higher-layer protocol and includes an indicator indicating that the geographical position of the target node and the radius is requested. The requesting service message is merged in a first header of a requesting datagram which is sent to the target node. A reply datagram is received from the target node and a reply position message component is extracted from the received reply datagram. A reply position message component is extracted from a second header of the received reply datagram.

  • Patent number: 7944943
Abstract: A channel inverse multiplexer/multiplexer (IMUX/MUX) (14a) of a MAC sublayer (14) of a UTRAN RNC (11) for providing to a UE (18) traffic (communication signals including in general both control and user data) at a higher rate than the UE can accept over a single channel. The channel IMUX/MUX performs inverse multiplexing of traffic for downlink, and multiplexing of traffic on uplink, and does so in a way that is transparent to all other layers/entities of the UTRAN (11 17) and to the UE (18).

  • Patent number: 7937081
Abstract: A technique for protecting location information of a subscriber in a mobile network is disclosed which forwards a registration request from the subscriber to an S-CSCF including the subscriber's TA and then forwarding a location update from the S-CSCF to an HSS including the subscriber's TA. Upon the S-CSCF losing data, lost data may be restored to the S-CSCF from the data stored in the HSS. The HSS may store data in a non-volatile memory such as a hard disk drive. The technique may also include forwarding a registration request from the subscriber to an S-CSCF including the subscriber's TA and then forwarding a location update from the S-CSCF to an HSS and storing data in a non-volatile memory such as a hard disk drive in the S-CSCF so as to be protected against loss. Upon the S-CSCF losing data, lost data including the subscriber's TA may be restored to the S-CSCF from the data stored in the S-CSCF.

  • Patent number: 7925271
Abstract: To prevent oscillation in load levels on radio interfaces between one or more user equipment devices and neighboring base stations after the base stations have reduced the data rates of the one or more user equipment devices connected thereto over said radio interfaces, one or more radio network controllers select appropriate delay periods for each neighboring base station so that each base station waits for a different recovery period after a maximum or target load level has been exceeded before increasing loading.

  • Patent number: RE42298
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for connection establishment and a radio system relaying packet traffic. A terminal informs the system that it wishes to transmit data. The network part receives the message and allocates default radio resources and informs the allocated resources to the terminal. The terminal sends a first control message to inform the terminal's radio path characteristics. According to the solution of the invention, when allocating the default amount of radio resources to the terminal, the network part is arranged to reserve one or more radio blocks for the terminal's control messages. When the terminal sends the network part information about its radio path characteristics, it is arranged to inform in the message if there are additional characteristics. In that case, the terminal sends a second control message including information about its radio path characteristics.
