  • Patent number: 7426394
Abstract: The invention relates to a method between a communications device (110) and a communications network, which communications network generally provides at least a direct cell access mechanism and an alternative cell access mechanism for the communications device for uplink access to the communications network. The method comprises determining by the communications network and indicating (230) to the communications device (110) whether the direct cell access mechanism can at a given time be provided. This being the case, the communications device can directly start sending user data (150) on a traffic channel. In a situation in which the direct cell access cannot be provided, it is indicated to the communications device that the alternative cell access mechanism should be used.

  • Patent number: 7408872
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a modulator for modulating signals. The signals are to be transmitted by a device in packets via an air interface. Each packet is supposed to comprise at least one entity of at least two different entities, which different entities are employed for transmitting signals representing different kinds of information. In order to enable a higher data rate, signals that are to be transmitted in at least one of said different entities are modulated with a first set of values of at least one modulation parameter of a selected modulation scheme. Further, signals that are to be transmitted in at least one other of said different entities are modulated with a second set of values of said at least one modulation parameter, said second set of values comprising less values than said first set of values.

  • Patent number: 7406057
Abstract: A method for handling of messages between a terminal and a data network, in which messages of a specific protocol are handled using correspondingly defined specific contexts for messages of the protocol. Messages based on the same specific protocol relate to different service categories. A message is received at the network, and an analysis of the message is performed to determine a service category of the received message. A different specific context is assigned to each received message dependent on the analyzed service category.

  • Patent number: 7388851
Abstract: A method for supporting relocation of an IP session during a network layer handover in a mobile communication system. In the method, application context information indicating activities that are advantageously executed pro-actively before the network layer handover is sent. The indicated activities are then pro-actively executed in a receiving network node. An advantage of the method and arrangement of the invention is that the pro-active actions, including pre-allocation of some critical resources for seamless handover of an ongoing IP session, facilitate timely implementation of the activities required for handing over an IP session, and/or selection of a target access router.

  • Patent number: 7388848
Abstract: The invention provides a method and apparatus for providing signaling in a communication link to a sending node and a receiving node using the hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol. The invention is characterized by the fact that the signalling contains a predetermined bit pattern that indicates whether control information in the current transmission can be used alone for decoding, or whether some part of the control information from an earlier transmission must also be used. The basic idea is to inform only with one bit (‘TFCI flag’), whether the TFCI bits can be used for decoding the transport channel, using HARQ. If this bit is logical “1”, then it means that current TFCI can be used for decoding, i.e. that the number of information bits for this transport format equals the number that is defined also originally when TFCI has been defined.

  • Patent number: 7386036
Abstract: A method, device, and system in which radio links between relays and users are optimized separately from the links between relays and base stations and in which multiple simultaneous data streams between relays and base stations are created. The system includes transceivers of at least three kinds with two kinds of radio interfaces. The first kind of transceiver, a base station (BS), is connected to the core network with a link of wire line quality. The second kind, a relay station (RS), is connected to the BS with a first radio interface, and to the third kind, the user equipment (UE), with a second radio interface. The first and second radio interfaces can operate, at least in part, using the same frequency bandwidth. The UE can also connect directly to the BS using the second radio interface if the BS is closer than any RS.

  • Patent number: 7369508
Abstract: When uplink signalling radio bearers steal capacity from a user bearer, at least the amount of data waiting for transmission on a TBF established for the user bearer should be informed to the network. This can be done by using separate countdown values for each radio bearer, using a first countdown value for the bearer the TBF was established for and a second countdown value which indicates the total amount of data on stealing bearers, or by calculating a common countdown value indicating the total amount of data on all bearers using the TBF.

  • Patent number: 7356313
Abstract: The use of the STTD is enabled in a network so that the common channels (CPICH etc.) do not need to be transmitted using transmit diversity, but the STTD can be enabled only for channels having dedicated pilots and which are intended for the UEs supporting this functionality. Other UEs not supporting transmit diversity can use the common channels as usual. In normal transmit diversity operation the UE will use the CPICH transmitted from both antennas as a phase reference. In the proposed method some of the common channels including CPICH are transmitted without transmit diversity even though the STTD is used on channels having dedicated pilots and which are intended for the UEs supporting this functionality.

  • Patent number: 7336630
Abstract: A method for transmitting speech and data simultaneously on a circuit switched two-way connection of a mobile communications system, which transfers speech and other data by use of discontinuous transmission, DTX, in which the sending is discontinued when it is indicated, that there is no information to be sent, and continued when it is indicated that there is information to be sent. In accordance with the method of the invention, the data to be sent are stored in buffer means and wait to be sent. When it is indicated, that there is no more information to be sent, the data stored in buffer means are sent until there is no more data to be sent or until it is indicated that there is information, speech or other data, to be sent, in which case the sending of data is discontinued and the sending of speech or other data is re-started. So the transfer of data takes place as a background process during transfer of speech or other data. The data are arranged into frame structures while being stored in the buffer.

  • Patent number: 7301929
Abstract: A method and system for transport block size signaling where information including a first modulation scheme, first transport block size, and first redundancy version may be transmitted. The first transport block size and first redundancy version each are represented by a set number of bits. A packet is transmitted using the first modulation scheme. Second information is transmitted including a second modulation scheme, second transport block size, and second redundancy version. The second transport block size is represented by a set number of bits larger than the number of bits representing the first transport block size. The second redundancy version is represented by a set number of bits less than the number of bits representing the first redundancy version. The packet is re-transmitted using the second modulation scheme. The system may use Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) that implements High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).
