  • Patent number: 7920590
Abstract: A mobile station (100) and a compression/decompression node in a wireless network (5), preferably the GGSN 30 (30), agree on whether to apply compression/decompression, and what compression/decompression scheme to use either by pre-configuration (when the GGSN 30 is in the home network of the mobile terminal) or by signalling (when the GGSN 30 is in a visited or a roamed-to network). Additional information, such as a profile-specific dictionary, may be used to increase the compression efficiency, particularly during start-up. Dynamic data can also be accommodated. The compression/decompression may be turned on and off on a packet-by-packet basis, depending on whether the compression actually results in a smaller packet. A compressed/uncompressed indicator bit or bits can be inserted explicitly on a per packet basis, and/or the compressed/uncompressed indication can be derived implicitly.

  • Patent number: 7916725
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, routing device, and access device for forwarding a data packet with multicast purpose to a connection-oriented network, wherein a predetermined broadcast address is added to the data packet if the address of the data packet to be sent is a network-layer multicast address. Based on the broadcast address, the data packet is forwarded to a plurality of access devices (31-3n) of the connection-oriented network, arranged to check whether the destination address of the data packet is supported. Then, the data packet is forwarded from a supporting access device (32) to the destination address. Thereby, the data packet does not have to be sent to every possible destination address one by one, and link capacity can be saved.

  • Patent number: 7898990
Abstract: A method, system and gateway device enables interworking between an IP-based network and a circuit-switched network. A first address information of a first connection end located in the circuit-switched network is routed in a trigger message from the IP-based network to a gateway control function. The first and second call legs are established in parallel towards the first connection end based on the first address information, and towards a second connection end located in the IP-based network based on a second address information obtained from the trigger message. A single connection between the two connection ends is then established by connecting the first and second call legs. Thereby, IP-based signaling functionality can be used to add capability for subscribers located in the CS domain to be invited into conferences or calls with subscribers located in an IP-based domain, e.g. the IMS domain.

  • Patent number: 7876966
Abstract: Methods and units are shown for supporting a switching from a first coding scheme to a Modified Discrete Cosine Transform (MDCT) based coding scheme calculating a forward or inverse MDCT with a window (h(n)) of a first type for a respective coding frame, which satisfies constraints of perfect reconstruction. To avoid discontinuities during the switching, it is proposed that for a transient frame immediately after a switching, a sequence of windows (h0(n),h1(n),h2(n)) is provided for the forward and the inverse MDCTs. The windows of the window sequence are shorter than windows of the first type. The window sequence splits the spectrum of a respective first coding frame into nearly uncorrelated spectral components when used as basis for forward MDCTs, and the second half of the last window (h2(n)) of the sequence of windows is identical to the second half of a window of the first type.

  • Patent number: 7865183
Abstract: A method of coordinating devices in a wireless network is provided. First capability data associated with a first type of power source and a first state of the power source of a first device is received at a second device. Second capability data is transmitted to the first device from the second device. The second capability data is associated with a second type of power source and a second state of the power source of the second device. The first capability data is compared with the second capability data at the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is less desirable than the second capability data, the second capability data is transmitted again to the first device from the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is more desirable than the second capability data, the first capability data is received again from the first device at the second device.

  • Publication number: 20100184377
Abstract: A hotspot access point enables a mobile wireless device to resume a service with a network server when service is interrupted by the mobile device moving out of the coverage area of the access point. A short-range communication link is established by the access point with the mobile device based on a local identification of the device. The access point requests additional information from the wireless device. The additional information relates to a wide area network identification of the device. The mobile device transmits additional information to the access point which stores the local area identification and additional identification. The access point transmits to the mobile device a coded identificator of the wireless device based upon the local area identification and a network identification of the device. The access point determines whether service with the mobile device is open and establishes a wide area connection with the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20080311920
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for balancing multi-symbol modulation schemes in cellular communications are provided. The modulation schemes include a plurality of modulation symbols, each of which codes a predefined bit group, which includes one or more bits. The bit groups define different bit positions for bits within the bit groups. The bit positions of the modulation symbols are associated with different error probability levels. Each error probability level defines a probability level of an erroneous bit value at a defined bit position in the bit group, which is obtained by a mapping operation from the modulation symbol transmitted over a radio frequency channel with noise. Binary content to be modulated is provided in form of code blocks I (where i=1 to n). Each of the code blocks is carried on a corresponding code channel i.

  • Patent number: 7463886
Abstract: A wireless communications device detects a change in its residual energy status, and transmits the residual energy status across a wireless communications network to a remote device that coordinates communications in the wireless communications network. For example, the remote device may be a piconet coordinator (PNC) in an IEEE 802.15.3 network, or a master device in a Bluetooth network. A wireless communications device that coordinates communications in a wireless communications network (the coordinator) transmits one or more first handover commands to one or more remote devices upon the occurrence of a triggering event. Based on responses to these first commands, the coordinator selects a remote device for coordinating future communications in the wireless communications network.

  • Patent number: 7453851
Abstract: A quality of service (QoS) signaling packet for arranging QoS connections upon handoff between a mobile node (MN) and a correspondent node (CN) using Internet Protocol (IP), the signaling packet includes one or more QoS flow requirements, one or more classifier parameters, QoS session identification information composed of a previous QoS session ID, a new QoS session ID, and a sequence number. The QoS session IDs are used for establishing a new data path and for added security against spoofing, can be composed of a key-based signature combination of a mobile node's new care of address (CoA) and the sequence number. The packet may also include a previous node address and a cookie, both of which are inserted by a previous node. The previous router address is used for backtracking communications and establishing/updating flow tables while the cookie is used for authentification of node-to-node messages.

  • Patent number: 7447192
Abstract: A method and system including at least one media gateway and at least one media gateway controller controlling the media gateway. The media gateway uses structured termination identities for identifying terminations on the media gateway that source and/or sink media and/or control streams. In order to assure a correct specifying of one or more terminations of the media gateway, the media gateway controller contains, or has access to, structure information of the structure of the termination identities. The structure information describes the bit sequence and/or the information represented by the bits or bit sections of the termination identities. Therefore, wildcarding commands can be properly defined.
