  • Publication number: 20010008549
Abstract: In a bandwidth-limiting apparatus, control is performed of the oscillation frequencies of each of three local oscillators of three intermediate-frequency circuits, and the passband is limited by adjusting the width of and shifting the IF, the intermediate frequency at the last stage being converted by a frequency conversion means to a low frequency suitable for processing, which is then bandwidth limited by a filter function of a digital signal processor. Control of each passband is performed in linked fashion by control stored in a microcomputer circuit, and the sharp shape factor of the digital signal processor is effectively used to eliminate noise from the deviation passband. Because noise is eliminated before the detection stage, there is no cause for the intrusion of wraparound noise, thereby eliminating the necessity to perform excessive bandwidth limiting.

  • Patent number: 6260373
Abstract: A heat exchanger within a sheet metal enclosure includes mounting structure that provides double vibration isolation to minimize noise. The mounting structure includes at least one resilient vibration isolator that couples the heat exchanger to a vibration isolation plate, and includes other similar isolators that couple the plate to the enclosure. The mass of the plate is sufficient to somewhat emulate a dual mass/spring system having two degrees of freedom. To this end, the plate is preferably thicker than the sheet metal walls of the enclosure. The double vibration isolated heat exchanger is especially applicable to systems having several heat pumps that are mounted overhead. In some embodiments, the heat pump's refrigerant compressor is also resiliently mounted to the vibration isolation plate.

  • Patent number: 6258178
Abstract: A heated high pressure air and/or a high pressure water are spouted through nozzles. Therefore, the coated layer is removed without crushing the bumper unlike in the conventional method, and therefore, a plurality of process steps can be skipped. Thus the bulk of the apparatus can be reduced, the operating cost can be lowered, and the environment can be protected. The method for removing a coated layer includes the step of installing a bumper to be subjected to a removal of the coated layer. Then the coated layer is removed from the bumper by spouting water and/or a pre-heated air to the bumper. Then the bumper is carried to a predetermined psition after removing the coated layer, and then the bumper is detached. The apparatus includes an installing/detaching means for installing/detaching the bumper to be subjected to a removal of the coated layer.

  • Patent number: 6254007
Abstract: A security document is prepared by designating specialized tiling elements to be printed in selected image element cells across the face of the document. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a method of preparing a security document is provided comprising the steps of: (i) designating a security image area on a face of a document; (ii) dividing the security image area into a plurality of image element cells, such that the image element cells define an array of image element cells across the security image area; and (iii) designating respective printed tiling elements to be printed in selected ones of the image element cells to define a printed security image and a printed complementary security image within the security image area. Individual ones of the respective printed tiling elements comprise printed units positioned within the respective image element cells.

  • Patent number: 6250101
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, a single motor drives both oil and refrigerant pumps in a refrigeration chiller, the motor and oil pump being disposed in the chiller's oil supply tank and the refrigerant pump being disposed exterior thereof. The refrigerant pump pumps liquid refrigerant to the chiller's compressor section so as to cool the motor by which the compressor is driven while the oil pump pumps oil to chiller locations that require lubrication when the chiller is in operation. A uniquely designed impeller permits low pressure liquid refrigerant in its liquid state to be reliably pumped to a location of use, without significant flashing, from a source location which is at a height only a short distance above the pump inlet. A stand alone refrigerant pump embodiment is also described.

  • Patent number: 6247921
Abstract: An apparatus for generating a spark, particularly for igniting the gas in a gas appliance. The apparatus includes a spark generator adjacent to a combustible gas burner. The spark generator consists of at least two spark electrodes connected to a high voltage transformer. The transformer and electrodes, preferably sealed or supported in an epoxy or ceramic shell, form one easily replaceable unit. A remote circuit is operatively associated with the high voltage transformer for igniting a spark. The transformer and electrodes are located at a distance from the spark initiating circuitry and other circuitry, which in combination with the epoxy or ceramic shell provides enhanced EMI protection for sensitive remote circuitry. The ignition system may also includes a flame sensing mechanism which detects when the burner is lit.

  • Patent number: 6244058
Abstract: A tube and shell evaporator operable at near freezing includes a temperature sensor that senses the temperature of chilled water discharging from one or just a few of the very coldest tubes, whereby the sensed temperature is less than the average leaving chiller water temperature (LCWT). The result provides an exceptionally low LCWT, which can be especially desirable in district cooling systems where the chilled water is usually piped a great distance.
