Abstract: With proper control of the surface energy of the press ink and the surface tension of the ink jet ink, an article which has a press ink coverage of greater than 30% screen can be successfully imaged with ink jet ink to provide substantially uniform coverage of ink jet ink in the imaged areas. The ink jet ink to be imaged over the press ink must be low enough in surface tension to enable it to wet the surface of the printed article and to be retained on the surface of the article. The ink jet ink can be compatibilized with the press ink either by adjusting one or both of the surface tensions of the ink jet ink and the press ink and/or through the use of a compatibilizing liquid which provides a compatible interface between the ink jet ink and the press ink.
Abstract: Difficulties with removing an identification card as part of a business form and/or costs concerns in making such business forms with readily removable cards are avoided in a business form incorporating a removable identification card made by the steps of a) providing a base sheet (10) of a relatively destructible material such as paper and having an area (20) intended to be an identification card; b) adhering a laminate layer (30), (34) of relatively indestructible material to the base sheet (10) to cover the area (20) on at least the underside of the base sheet (10); c) placing a layer of adhesive (50), (52) on the laminate layer (34) and to the sides (40), (42), (44), (46) thereof to be on the base sheet (10) adjacent the laminate layer (34); d) adhering a liner layer (56) to the laminate layer (34) and the base sheet (10) with the layer of adhesive (50), (52) and e) placing a continuous, closed die cut (26) about the area with the die cut extending through the laminate layer (30), (34) and the base sheet
Abstract: A security document is provided containing a color-forming composition having an insulating material therein which allows the document to be passed through heated printing devices such as laser printers without the problem of premature color development. The color-forming composition includes a mixture of a color former, a color developer, and an insulating material. In a preferred embodiment, a toner adhesion-enhancing composition containing an insulating material is applied over the color-forming composition. The security document may be used to provide an authentication feature and/or an indication of attempted alterations from the use of solvents, heat or abrasion.

Abstract: A method of synthesizing deuterated morphine-3.beta.-glucuronide, morphine-6.beta.-glucuronide, and codeine-6.beta.-glucuronide is disclosed. The chemicals are used as internal standards for mass spectrometry analyses of morphine, heroin, and codeine uses. They are also useful in the study of metabolism of morphine and codeine.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the access of multiple processors to a shared memory device in a computer or other processor-based system. An exemplary embodiment includes an embedded processor and a host processor, both of which share access to a single-port random access memory (RAM). An access control circuit is provided which includes a control register with a first storage element corresponding to the embedded processor and a second storage element corresponding to the host processor. The access control circuit utilizes access request bits stored in the first and second storage elements to generate a select signal which is applied to the select signal inputs of a group of multiplexers. The multiplexers select either the embedded processor or host processor control, address and data signal lines for connection to the single-port RAM.
Abstract: A stitch bonded fabric sheet (10) has a felt web (12) with hydrophobic layer (14) and a hydrophilic layer (16) stitch bonded with yarns (18) to create yarn faces (24 and 26) over the respective outer surfaces (20 and 22) of the felt web (12). Sheet (10) may be used as a fluid-retention fabric such as to replace the facing fabric and felt layer in an incontinent pad.
Abstract: A novel composite high-nitrile fiber in which the polymers are arranged in a sheath core type configuration. One polymer of the composite filament contains a solventless, waterless, melt-processable acrylonitrile olefinically unsaturated polymer and the other polymer of the composite filament contains an organic polymer. Either polymer can be employed as the sheath or the core component of the composite filament.
