Abstract: Apparatus and process useful in the separation of undesirable organics from various types of compositions including sludge. The apparatus comprises a contactor vessel, a sludge conduit for conveying sludge to the contactor vessel, and a sludge cutter for reducing the sludge conveyed by the conduit to reduced cross-section extrudates for deposition in the contactor vessel. The sludge cutter includes a foraminous member and can operate to roughen the surface of the extrudates to provide increased surface area for contacting with solvent. The sludge cutter is arranged to effect free fall of the reduced cross-section extrudates from the sludge cutter for initiating breakup of the extrudates into reduced length segments. A deflector preferably is positioned in the path of the free-falling extrudates to promote further breakup of the extrudates into relatively short segments or pellets.

Abstract: A toilet bowl freshening device for automatically delivering toilet bowl freshener to a toilet bowl after each flush. The device is used in conjuction with the water forced out of a hydraulic actuation system after flushing has occurred. The water activates a freshener pellet and supplies an amount of freshener directly to the bowl.

The discharge opening (7) of the casting nozzle 6) is directed towards a substantially vertical drum surface (8) of the casting wheel (2) and a gap (A) of less than 1 mm is provided between the drum surface (8) and the metal discharge opening (7) of the casting nozzle (6).
Abstract: Reusable, launderable, sterilizable medical barrier fabric tightly woven from 100% polyester fiber constructed of polyester yarn of from 50 to 150 denier, the sum of the ends and picks of at least 100 per linear inch, is treated with a flame-resistant, water repellent, antimicrobial finish. Medical garments, wraps and like sterilizable articles constructed of this fabric retain their desirable properties after repeated institutional launderings and/or steam sterilizations.

Abstract: Two side-by-side columns of containers are fed between laterally spaced container conveyors that have lugs which move inwardly between the adjacent containers of each column. Some lugs are oversized to create a space between the foremost containers in one slug or array and the last containers in an adjacent array. These lugs also have bifurcated lower portions and the lug conveyors move these lugs downwardly to engage the adjacent end panels of two end-to-end packing cases so the containers can be lowered into these cases at a load station.
Abstract: A penalty brake control system for a railway locomotive in which a first pressure switch controls the venting of the control chamber of a penalty brake application valve. Reset of the penalty brake application valve, following actuation in response to an unsafe operating condition, is achieved by actuating this first pressure switch to effect closure of the control chamber vent path. A second pressure switch actuates this first pressure switch only when two pressure signals are present thereat, the first pressure signal arising when the penalty brake application value is actuated and the second pressure signal arising when the locomotive brake valve handle is moved out of release position, provided the unsafe operating condition has been corrected.
Abstract: A terpolymer mixture having emulsifying and emulsion stabilizing properties comprising a mixture of (1) a water soluble vinyl monomer, (2) a water insoluble vinyl monomer having 12 to 30 carbon atoms and (3) a polymerizable vinyl monomer containing acid groups. The terpolymer may be used in combination with oil and water to form stable oil-in-water emulsions or in enhanced oil recovery procedures.
Abstract: A flange finisher strip has a reinforcement member and elastomeric cover. The reinforcement member is channel shaped in cross section with a member extending inwardly into the channel. A retaining mechanism is associated with the extending member to secure the strip onto a flange.
Abstract: A static RAM cell includes a first pair of transistors, which act as pass or switching transistors during a read or write operation, and as loads during a refresh operation, and a second pair of current sink transistors connected as a cross-coupled flip-flop and connected to the first pair of transistors. The operation of the memory cell transistors during read and write and refresh operations is controlled by different levels of a control signal applied to their respective control terminals, whereby refreshing does not affect reading or writing of data from or into the SRAM cell.
Abstract: A rotary digital contacting encoder (FIG. 1) including a base (5), comprising - a base epoxy disk (501) with three external, pre-molded in place, connector pins (P.sub.1 -P.sub.3) on its exterior side extending through it, and a conductive layer in the form of two concentric layer rings (502 & 503; FIG. 4); and - an encoder element made of a "Kapton" insulating substrate (510) carrying two, like concentric cog rings (511B & 511A; FIGS. 3 & 7) on its top side. Conductive vias (512 & 513) electrically interconnect each respective cog ring with its respective conductive layer ring and its respective external connector pin, the vias forming conductive paths through the insulating substrate between the conductive layer and the cog rings. The presence of the conductive layer 502/503, which can be screen printed on the base disk, greatly simplifies the relative alignment of the encoder element, conductor pads and terminals.
Abstract: A hermetic shell of an absorption refrigeration apparatus contains an internally mounted heat exchanger that minimizes external piping. The internally mounted heat exchanger provides a means for exchanging two solutions having unequal portions of lithium bromide and water between a generator and an absorber, both of which are also contained within the shell. The solution having the higher concentration of lithium bromide leaves the generator and preheats the incoming dilute solution as the two solutions pass through the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is located adjacent to both the generator and the absorber so that the concentrated solution can be conveyed internally through the shell from the generator to the absorber without relying on external piping.
Abstract: Receivers for bandspread signals have a carrier PLL (20) for the carrier frequency and phase and a code PLL (20, 30 . . . 34) for the code frequency and phase. To be able to receive even very noisy signals, the carrier PLL, in particular, must have a very narrow bandwidth. This results in a very narrow capture range.According to the invention, instead of employing a complicated search strategy, advantage is taken of the fact that the code PLL locks in more easily. A signal is taken from the code PLL which indicates the difference between the desired value and the actual value of the code frequency. This signal is fed as an additional control signal to the carrier PLL.
Abstract: An electrically actuated valve for incremental fluid flow rate control is disclosed. The valve is comprised of a valve body having an interior with a planar outlet surface against which a rectilinear valve element is slidingly operated. The valve body includes an inlet orifice and an outlet orifice in the planar outlet surface for fluid flow through the valve body. The valve element has an orifice therethrough controlling flow through the outlet orifice in accordance with the position of the valve element, which is linearly actuated by a rotary stepper motor.

Abstract: A glass run channel weather strip has a frame member and sealing member. The frame member has an overall S-shape in cross-section with a mechanism to retain the frame onto a flange. Also, the S-shape member includes a mechanism to mechanically retain the seal member within the frame member to form an integral glass run channel.
Abstract: A wheel restraining cleat and strap for use with a pair of wheel chocks to anchor a vehicle wheel to a supporting surface such as a floor of a railway car for transporting vehicles, which includes a strap of flexible material for overlying the tire of the vehicle wheel and carrying thereon a cleat formed of a material having both flexibility and resiliency so that it grabs the tire to retain the strap in overlying relation with the wheel. The cleat includes protuberances on the tire-engaging side to prevent slippage between the tire and the cleat, thereby maintaining the strap in overlying tie-down relation to the wheel. The cleat is sufficiently bendable to conform to surfaces of tires of different diameters.
