  • Patent number: 5029901
Abstract: A confidential information bearing article comprising a cover sheet adhered to a base sheet is provided which is capable of providing hidden confidential information to a recipient. Through the use of camouflage, obscuring, and opacifying and reflectivity increasing coatings, the paper used for the mailer becomes effectively opaque, and information printed on the inside of the article is substantially unreadable from the outside. The article includes an adhesive for securing the base sheet and cover sheet and perforations along the edges to assist the recipient in opening the article.

  • Patent number: 5030777
Abstract: A process for synthesizing 3,5-dichloroalkylbenzene and recovering 1,3-dichlorobenzene from a starting mixture of 1,3- and 1,4-dichlorobenzenes. The process includes the sequential steps of selectively alkylating the 1,3-dichlorobenzene in the starting mixture; isomerizing a portion of the 2,4-dichloroalkylbenzene produced to 3,5-dichloroalkylbenzene; separating the 1,4-dichlorobenzene from the isomeric mixture of dichlorocumenes; and selectively transalkylating the dichlorocumenes to yield alkylbenzene, 3,5-dichloroalkylbenzene and 1,3-dichlorobenzene. By selectively alkylating only a portion of the 1,3-dichlorobenzene, the reaction products are obtained in good yield and substantially free of undesirable by-products.

  • Patent number: 5029448
Abstract: An oil separator for an air-cooled refrigeration system employing a screw compressor includes a U-shaped housing the bottom of which defines an oil sump and the upstanding leg portions of which are connected by flow splitting apparatus. The flow splitting apparatus divides and tangentially delivers portions of a mixture of compressed refrigerant gas received from the compressor, and in which oil is entrained, into the upper region of each leg portion. The tangential delivery of the mixture into the leg portions and the centrifugal force created thereby causes the entrained oil to be separated from the gas at two distinct locations in the separator. The separated oil drains along the inner walls of the leg portions of the separator to a common sump while the compressed refrigerant gas from which the oil has been separated exits each of the leg portions through open-ended conduits which extend into the leg portions.

  • Patent number: 5028098
Abstract: A modular counter-type work station for use by tellers in dealing with customers in a public area includes a counter top at a convenient working level above the floor having a generally U-shaped configuration with a front bight portion publicly accessible on the outside for direct customer access and a rearwardly extending teller section comprising a pair of parallel, opposite side leg portions joined at the forward end to the bight portion. A first cabinet is provided at a central location below the bight portion to support the counter top and a pair of second cabinets are provided for supporting the rearwardly extending leg portions. The cabinets define open corner leg spaces for the tellers while seated on opposite sides of the first cabinet. A counter top cabinet is provided above the level of the counter top to divide the bight portion between a public access or forward section and a rearward teller access section.

  • Patent number: 5027608
Abstract: The determination as to whether an operational compressor in a multiple-screw compressor water chiller is fully loaded is made by sending a relatively long duration test pulse to the load solenoid of the compressor. If the compressor is fully loaded, no measurable change in the current drawn by the compressor motor will be measured since no slide valve movement will have occurred and no additional load will have been placed on the compressor. If, however, the compressor is not fully loaded at the time the test pulse is sent, the compressor slide valve will move to load the compressor to an extent such that a reliably measurable change in compressor motor current draw occurs.

  • Patent number: 5028326
Abstract: Apparatus and process useful in the separation of undesirable organics from various types of compositions including sludge. The apparatus comprises a contactor vessel, a sludge conduit for conveying sludge to the contactor vessel, and a sludge cutter for reducing the sludge conveyed by the conduit to reduced cross-section extrudates for deposition in the contactor vessel. The sludge cutter includes a foraminous member and can operate to roughen the surface of the extrudates to provide increased surface area for contacting with solvent. The sludge cutter is arranged to effect free fall of the reduced cross-section extrudates from the sludge cutter for initiating breakup of the extrudates into reduced length segments. A deflector preferably is positioned in the path of the free-falling extrudates to promote further breakup of the extrudates into relatively short segments or pellets.

  • Patent number: 5020306
Abstract: Two side-by-side columns of containers are fed between laterally spaced container conveyors that have lugs which move inwardly between the adjacent containers of each column. Some lugs are oversized to create a space between the foremost containers in one slug or array and the last containers in an adjacent array. These lugs also have bifurcated lower portions and the lug conveyors move these lugs downwardly to engage the adjacent end panels of two end-to-end packing cases so the containers can be lowered into these cases at a load station.

  • Patent number: 5020862
Abstract: A penalty brake control system for a railway locomotive in which a first pressure switch controls the venting of the control chamber of a penalty brake application valve. Reset of the penalty brake application valve, following actuation in response to an unsafe operating condition, is achieved by actuating this first pressure switch to effect closure of the control chamber vent path. A second pressure switch actuates this first pressure switch only when two pressure signals are present thereat, the first pressure signal arising when the penalty brake application value is actuated and the second pressure signal arising when the locomotive brake valve handle is moved out of release position, provided the unsafe operating condition has been corrected.
