Patent number: 4835415Abstract: A circuit for amplifying a measurement signal having an AC component and obtained from the tap of a voltage divider which is connected via a dropping resistor to a supply voltage and includes at least one magneto-resistor, and for shaping the measurement signal into an output signal of approximately rectangular shape. To simplify the circuit and reduce the number and size of the components and leads to a minimum, the current produced by the supply voltage is changed essentially in accordance with the changes of the AC component of the measurement signal by connecting a controllable impedance into the supply-voltage lead, the impedance being controlled by the measurement signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1988Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: Standard Elektrik Lorenz AktiengesellschaftInventor: Helmut Lowel

Patent number: 4834242Abstract: A shippable quantity of sheet products includes a shipping pallet, a bottom cap member, positioned on the pallet, and a plurality of supplies of the sheet products stacked in one or more layers on the bottom cap member. Each of the plurality of supplies of the sheet products including a stack of the sheet products, a stack cover, having a top and four sides, with the stack cover positioned on top of the stack of sheet products, and a stack tray, having a bottom and four sides. The stack tray, receiving the stack of sheet products, has a pair of generally vertical perforation lines on each of two opposing ones of its four sides. Each pair of the generally vertical perforation lines defines an access tab therebetween which may be at least partially separated from the side of the tray by tearing along the perforation lines. This exposes the side of the stack of sheet products in the tray. A shim in the bottom of the tray supports the stack of sheet products.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1988Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: The Standard Register CompanyInventors: Donald A. Patent number: 4834173Abstract: A perforated plastic baffle for a shell-and-tube heat exchanger includes pressure actuated tube seals. Heat exchanger tubes run lengthwise through a cylindrical shell, and baffles traverse the tubes. The pressure actuated seals line each baffle perforation through which the tubes extend. Each seal includes a flexible annular lip that surrounds the tube and extends upstream from the baffle. Fluid flowing through the shell and being redirected by the baffles provides a pressure differential that forces the seals' lips tightly against and around the tubes. In the absence of the fluid pressure differential, the sealing force is greatly reduced which enables the tubes to be easily inserted through the baffle perforations during assembly of the heat exchanger.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1987Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventors: Bruce W. Weiss, Alan Dickey

Patent number: 4833122Abstract: A laminate construction is provided which includes a backing sheet, a face sheet covering at least a portion of the backing sheet, and a releasable adhesive securing the face sheet to the backing sheet. The construction also includes first and second compositions which, when combined, form a distinctive color. The compositions are so arranged in the construction so that the application of an imaging force to the face sheet causes the compositions to combine and produce a color in the area beneath the imaging force. The face sheet can be peeled away to provide a nontacky label or the like, while a duplicate copy of the information printed onto the face sheet remains on the backing sheet. The construction may also include one or more intermediate plied which provide additional copies of the information.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1987Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: The Standard Register CompanyInventors: Gary Doll, William T. Patent number: 4832068Abstract: A liquid/gas bypass line bypasses an expansion device of a refrigeration apparatus. An inlet of the bypass line is connected slightly above the bottom of a condenser so that it can pass either liquid refrigerant or vaporous refrigerant, depending on the level of liquid refrigerant in the condenser. The other end of the bypass line is connected to discharge into the evaporator, bypassing the expansion device. The bypass line functions as a conventional hot gas bypass during low load conditions when the level of liquid refrigerant is below the line's inlet. When the level rises above the inlet, often occurring when the condenser coolant temperature is low and the compressor is fully loaded, the bypass line returns excess accumulated liquid refrigerant to the evaporator. Maintaining the proper levels of liquid refrigerant in both the condenser and the evaporator not only provides the most effective use of their heat transfer surfaces, but also promotes the proper return of oil to the compressor.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1987Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventors: James C. Wendschlag, James W. Larson

Patent number: 4832594Abstract: A fail safe control circuit for supplying gas to a burner is disclosed and includes a plurality of timers, two of which set upper and lower bounds on a window or acceptable time interval during which a third timer must issue a control signal for that signal to be valid. The timers are operated from at least two different sources of timing signals so that a failure of either source of timing signals as well as a malfunction of any one of the three timers will result in an invalid control signal and the control will lock out to preclude burner operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1987Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: Hamilton Standard Controls, Inc.Inventor: Stephen E. Youtz

Patent number: 4830274Abstract: A pressure independent variable air volume valve (VAV valve) functions as a pressure dependent valve upon detecting a malfunctioning airflow indicator. Under normal operating conditions, the VAV valve modulates supply airflow to a comfort zone in response to the zone temperature and the rate of airflow through the valve. If the airflow indicator fails, the VAV valve modulates the supply airflow in response to the zone temperature, independent of the airflow indicator.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1988Date of Patent: May 16, 1989Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventors: Tedd P. Johnson, Ronald J. Lievens

Patent number: 4830600Abstract: A premix furnace burner for a gas combusting furnace. The furnace burner includes a premix chamber and a burner plate assembly. The burner plate assembly is comprised of a burner plate with a plurality of relatively small apertures for the passage of a mixture of combustible gas and air and an annular ring for retaining the burner plate. The annular retaining ring determines the capacity of the furnace burner by appropriately sizing of the opening in the annulus of the retaining ring to sealingly overlay a selected portion of the burner plate apertures. The retaining ring further secures the burner plate in the correct operational position while simultaneously permitting the burner plate to expand and contract in response to temperature changes induced by combustion of the gas and air mixture.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 1988Date of Patent: May 16, 1989Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventors: James T.
