Abstract: A system is disclosed to add color to a locking strip gasket curtainwall having a plurality of vertical and horizontal gasket strips; each gasket strip having an outer periphery. The system comprises a mechanism for covering the vertical and horizontal gasket strips. The covering mechanism has an inner periphery having a shape substantially corresponding to the outer periphery of the gasket strips to be adapted to abut the gasket strip. A member projects from the inner periphery of the covering mechanism to secure the covering mechanism into the locking strip cavities of the gasket strips. This member replaces the conventional locking strip. A pigmented mechanism is coupled with the covering mechanism to provide the covering mechanism with a tinted aesthetic appearance.
Abstract: In a method for fabricating an MOS structure, in accordance with one embodiment, a layer of material that serves as an etching stop during the side wall spacer etch, is inserted between the silicon substrate and the side wall spacer. In another embodiment of the invention, after establishing differential layer thicknesses on the source/drain surface, the side wall spacer is completely removed and light and heavy ion implantation steps are performed sequentially with one single lithographic step. In a further embodiment of the invention, after the self-aligned silicide is formed, the side wall spacer is removed, and light and heavy ion implantation steps are sequentially performed.

Abstract: An improved freight brake emergency valve device providing improved stability against undesired emergency brake applications without degradation of emergency sensitivity. This is achieved, in one aspect of the invention, by introducing a spring force on the emergency piston as the piston approaches emergency position to thereby retard the piston momentum suffiently to allow a random brake pipe pressure fluctuation to dissipate. In another aspect of the invention, a choke and check valve are arranged to create a dashpot effect to retard piston momentum resulting from a random brake pipe pressure fluctuation.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process for making a 2-pyrrolidone and a succinimide by the vapor phase catalytic reaction of a maleimide with molecular hydrogen.
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the formation of amorphous multi-metallic alloy coatings. More specifically, a chemical vapor deposition process is described wherein precursor compounds are induced to decompose upon a substrate under controlled parameters so as to form a coating on the substrate that is a substantially amorphous multi-metallic alloy. Preferred amorphous alloy compositions are also taught that are ideally synthesized by the claimed process.

Abstract: A container handling apparatus (30) includes longitudinally extending primary frames (36, 38) and a cross frame (34) which interconnects the front ends of the primary frames. Lift masts (72, 74, 76 78) are mounted on the primary frame (36, 38) and extend upwardly therefrom. A load beam (80) is supported from the lift masts (72, 74, 76 78) and includes latching mechanisms (96) adapted for connection to a container. Secondary frames (50) are pivotally supported on the primary frames (36, 38) are in turn rotatably support driven wheel members (52). The pivotal relationship between the secondary frames (50) and the primary frames (36, 38) is regulated and controlled by spring/shock absorber/cylinder assemblies (54). The cross frame (34) is selectively retractable and the load beam (80) is selectively foldable to reduce the width of the apparatus.

Abstract: A method of controlling a refrigeration compressor involves momentarily energizing the compressor after extended off periods. When the temperature of a comfort zone remains below its set point temperature for an extended period, such as at night, periodically energizing the compressor for brief periods improves the confort level of the zone.
Abstract: A vibrator and method for transmitting seismic signals into the earth to obtain data on various subsurface characteristics. The vibrator is driven with piezoelectric transducers which can operate below 500 Hz, and can produce better signal resolution at higher frequencies than is possible with hydraulic vibrators. The piezoelectric vibrators can be used in various embodiments at the earth's surface, within a borehole, or while permanently buried in the earth.
Abstract: A process for making a diamide of the formula ##STR1## by reacting a monoamide compound of the formula ##STR2## with CO and an amine or ammonia of the formula R.sub.7 R.sub.8 NH in the liquid phase under essentially anhydrous conditions at a temperature in the range from 120.degree. to 210.degree. C., where each of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 is selected independently from H and a C.sub.1 to C.sub.12 hydrocarbyl containing no ethylenic or acetylenic unsaturation.

Abstract: A method is described for providing electrically resistive elements for mounting in an electrical resistor device for engagement with a relatively movable contact member, as in a potentiometer. A pair of termination openings are formed through a substrate of insulating material such as plastic film. A release liner is applied to the undersurface of the substrate to cover the openings. An electrically conductive medium is applied in fluid (paste) form to the top surface of the substrate and is caused to fill the termination openings, as by applying pressure. The conductive medium is solidified and the release liner is removed. A resistive medium for ultimate engagement with the movable contact is applied to the top surface of the substrate in engagement with the termination openings. The resistive track is shaped as desired, either linear or an annular segment, preferably as part of final shaping steps which also remove the resistive element from a continuous strip of the substrate material.
Abstract: An improved coil end face insulator and the application technique therefor serve to accurately and cost-effectively insulate the end windings of an electrical coil from the transverse arm of a ferromagnetic core spaced closely thereto. The insulator is of annular, one-piece construction, and comprises adhesively-backed tape. The insulators are dispensed in a convenient manner for rapid and accurate application to the respective end faces of coils respectively positioned on a mandrel or fixture.
Abstract: A floppy disk data separator includes a phase lock loop which locks onto a clock signal that is synchronized to the data stream being read from the disk. The clock signal is derived from a sync counter which is reset each time a data bit is received from the disk. The output of the sync counter is an edge delayed by 1/4 of a bit time. The next edge of the clock occurs each 1/2 bit time after that until the next data bit is received. These clock signals are phase compared with clock signals produced in the phase lock loop to synchronize the clock to the disk data. In another aspect of the invention, the phase lock loop is operated in either a low-gain or high-gain mode.
Abstract: A light weight, durable plumbing fixture, e.g., a bathtub, sink, shower receptor, etc., is fabricated from a multilayer polymer composite structure of high impact strength and delamination resistance. The composite possesses a relatively thin polymeric cosmetic, or finish, layer, e.g., of acrylic resin, chemically bonded to a relatively thick, reinforced, cross-linked, isocyanate-modified thermosetting polyester or polyether dense foam resin substrate layer.
Abstract: A multilayer polymeric composite structure of high impact strength and delamination resistance possesses a polymeric cosmetic layer chemically bonded to a cross-linked, isocyanate-modified thermosetting polyester or polyether substrate layer. In one embodiment of the structure, a relatively thin, predominantly acrylic resin layer is chemically bonded through urethane linkages to a relatively thick, reinforced, polyester foam substrate layer. A reinforced reaction injection molding (RPIM) procedure for manufacturing the polymeric composite is also disclosed.
Abstract: An economizer for an air handler, air conditioner or similar unit. The economizer has a first position and a second position. In the first position, the economizer is retracted and presents a relatively flat end surface of the air handler, and in a second position the economizer projects from the air handler and provides for the intake of ambient air into the air handler. The invention provides for the shipment of the economizer intact with the air handler so that installation of the unit is conveniently achieved.
