Abstract: A system for identification of bacterial cells in free solution in a sample. A sample handler is adapted to position the sample. A light source illuminates a large volume of the sample. An imager is located to receive light scattered from the sample. A computer it is coupled to receive data transmitted from the imager. A controller is coupled to send control signals to the sample handler and the computer. The imager processes the scattered light to form images of the bacteria and transmits bacteria image information to the computer, wherein the bacteria image information includes intensity values and position data for the bacteria images from which the computer determines the presence of bacteria.

Abstract: For canceling acoustic echoing, a processor receives audio signals comprising a speaker output and an ambient input. The processor further calculates separated output signals from mixed signals using a separating transfer function. The processor calculates a criterion function based on the separated output signals. In addition, the processor calculates an acoustic echo transfer function based on maximizing the a criterion function. The processor separates a source signal from the audio signal using the acoustic echo transfer function.

The method for making the miniature multicellular biological construct includes suspending cells in a hydrogel, depositing the cell-suspension into a microwell, gelling the cell-suspension, and incubating the cell-suspension. The method for studying cellular environments includes imaging the miniature multicellular biological construct.
Abstract: The invention provides a series of conformationally stable and selective kinase inhibitors, and methods of using the kinase inhibitors. The effect of atropisomerism on kinase selectivity was assessed, finding improved selectivity compared to rapidly interconverting parent compounds. The compounds herein are atropisomers having increased kinase selectivity, and are for use in treating conditions that benefit from selective kinase inhibition.

Abstract: An HVAC register airflow control system and an air flow control method are provided. A housing of the system is in fluid communication with an air source for supplying an airflow. The housing includes an air outlet to the enclosed space. A detection sensor detects occupancy information of the enclosed space. A controller generates a control signal based on the occupancy information and controls the shape change of a damper made of a shape memory material. The damper is controlled to switch between a first operative configuration for preventing the airflow from entering the enclosed space and a second operative configured for permitting the airflow to enter the enclosed space.

Abstract: A layered composite configured to form an interface between a heat exchanger and an integrated circuit includes a first polymer layer, a second polymer layer, a liquid metal in direct contact with the first polymer layer, a solid solute in direct contact with the second polymer layer, and a barrier between the liquid metal and the solid solute. The liquid metal is liquid at normal temperature and pressure. The solid solute includes microparticles, nanoparticles, or both and is solid at normal temperature and pressure. The barrier prevents contact of the liquid metal and the solid solute at normal temperature and pressure, and is configured to rupture under compression of the layered composite, thereby allowing the liquid metal and the solid solute to form a mixture between the first polymer layer and the second polymer layer.

Abstract: An apparatus includes an active bridge section with input terminals that receive power from a constant current source where the active bridge section operates at a fixed switching frequency. The apparatus includes a resonant section with a resonant inductor, a transformer and a resonant capacitor. The inductor is connected in series with a primary winding and the capacitor is connected in parallel with a secondary winding of the transformer. The resonant section is connected to an output of the active bridge section. The apparatus includes an output rectifier section that receives power from the resonant section and includes output terminals for connection to a load, and includes a controller that regulates output voltage to the load where the controller regulates output voltage to the load by controlling switching of the active bridge section. The fixed switching frequency of the active bridge section matches a resonant frequency of the resonant section.
Abstract: This application concerns embodiments of a low cost magnetically geared lead screw (MGLS). In some embodiments, a MGLS system comprises at least an outer cylinder, an inner rotor, and a translator sandwiched between the outer cylinder and the inner rotor. In various embodiments, the MGLS overcomes some of the disadvantages of other systems by skewing magnetic pole pairs on either or both of the outer cylinder or the inner rotor instead of skewing magnetic portions of the translator. By skewing the pole pairs, the translator placed between the outer and inner cylinder is generally not required to contain any magnetic material (such as permanent magnets or magnetic rings, rare earth elements, etc.), which may otherwise cause the translator to become costly and/or heavy, or to exhibit any other number of deficiencies.
