Abstract: An improved gate drive circuit is provided for a power device, such as a transistor. The gate driver circuit may include: a current control circuit; a first secondary current source that is used to control the switching transient during turn off of the power transistor and a second secondary current source that is used to control the switching transient during turn on of the power transistor. In operation, the current control circuit operates, during turn on of the power transistor, to source a gate drive current to a control node of the power transistor and, during turn off of the power transistor, to sink a gate drive current from the control node of the power transistor. The first and second secondary current sources adjust the gate drive current to control the voltage or current rate of change and thereby the overshoot during the switching transient.

Abstract: An improved topology is presented for a single phase power source inverter that is designed to minimize double frequency ripple. The inverter circuit includes: a capacitor coupled in parallel across a direct current (DC) voltage source; a bridge circuit having three legs electrically connected in parallel with the voltage source and each other, such that each leg of the bridge circuit being comprised of two switches coupled in series with each other; a low pass filter electrically connected between the bridge circuit and a load; an auxiliary inductor having a first terminal electrically connected to one leg of the bridge circuit and a second terminal electrically connected to another leg of the bridge circuit and the load; and a controller that drives the switches of the bridge circuit in a manner that maintains instantaneous power transfer across the bridge circuit constant.

Abstract: A composition comprising thermoset polymer, shape memory polymer to facilitate macro scale damage closure, and a thermoplastic polymer for molecular scale healing is disclosed; the composition has the ability to resolve structural defects by a bio-mimetic close-then heal process. In use, the shape memory polymer serves to bring surfaces of a structural defect into approximation, whereafter use of the thermoplastic polymer for molecular scale healing allowed for movement of the thermoplastic polymer into the defect and thus obtain molecular scale healing. The thermoplastic can be fibers, particles or spheres which are used by heating to a level at or above the thermoplastic's melting point, then cooling of the composition below the melting temperature of the thermoplastic. Compositions of the invention have the ability to not only close macroscopic defects, but also to do so repeatedly even if another wound/damage occurs in a previously healed/repaired area.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods for determining the source of hydrocarbons presented in the pores of a host rock or found in contaminated groundwater. The method includes the steps of (a) determining a first isotopic composition of boron and/or lithium in one or more components within a potential source rock sample, such as kerogen, clay, or water; (b) determining a second isotopic composition of boron and/or lithium in the hydrocarbons found within the pores of a host rock sample or in contaminated groundwater; and (c) comparing the first and second isotopic compositions to determine whether the potential source rock is the source of the hydrocarbons within the pores of the host rock or in contaminated groundwater.
