Abstract: An electrode assembly including an elongate body, a proximal emitter, and a distal emitter. A discharge port may be in fluid communication with a lumen of the elongate body. The proximal and distal emitters are formed by plating a metal an outer surface of the elongate body that is polymeric. A portion of the elongate body forms an insulative spacer between the proximal and distal emitters. A distal cap may be coupled to the elongate body, formed from conductive material, and arranged in electrical communication with the distal emitter. A distal lead, a thermocouple, and/or a hypotube may be disposed within the lumen to form an electrical pathway with the distal cap. A sheath may be disposed over a portion of the proximal emitter, and a radiopaque marker may be coupled to the proximal emitter. Methods of fabricating the electrode assembly are also disclosed.

Abstract: Bipolar electrosurgical forceps are provided with dual irrigating tubes that deliver irrigating liquid to the opposed surfaces of the tips of the forceps to prevent the sticking of body tissue to the tips. To reduce the manufacturing costs of the forceps and enable the forceps to be single use, disposable forceps, each tube of the dual irrigating tools is a plastic tube adhered along one of the opposing surfaces of the pair of forceps arms. Each tube also has a flat nozzle at the distal end of the tube that disburses irrigating liquid across the opposed surfaces of the forceps arm distal and tips.

  • Publication number: 20230120811
Abstract: A handheld surgical instrument includes a motor that transmits rotational movement to a drill bit of the handheld surgical instrument. The drill bit extends through a depth measurement module with a depth measurement extension, and a cannula, which extends forward from the drill to measure bore depth. The depth measurement extension is moveably mounted to the drill so as to extend into the rotor bore of the motor. As the drill advances forward, the depth measurement extension remains static. As a result of the advancement of the drill, the rotor extends over the proximal end of the depth measurement extension. A controller is configured to determine a breakthrough time and a breakthrough displacement of the drill bit based on displacement data and derived signals. The controller is further configured to determine a proper length of a screw to be used in a fixation surgical procedure based on the displacement data.
