Abstract: An imaging reader has near and far imagers for imaging illuminated targets to be read over a range of working distances. A range finder determines a distance to a target. A default imager captures a minor portion of an image of the target, and rapidly determines its light intensity level. At least one of the imagers is selected based on the determined distance and/or the determined light intensity level. The exposure and/or gain of the selected imager is set to a predetermined value, and an illumination level is determined, also based on the determined light intensity level and/or the determined distance. The selected imager, which has been set with the predetermined value, captures an image of the target, which has been illuminated at the illumination light level.

Abstract: An imaging reader captures and analyzes image data, including raw captured image data, and analyzes that capture image data to decode indicia contained therein. The indicia may be one or more two-dimensional barcodes. A dedicated front-end controller of the imaging reader generates decode data for the indicia and combines the decode data with the image data using a combinational protocol, after which a resulting decode enhanced image data frame is communicated to a host processor for processing.
Abstract: Ultrasonic transmitters periodically transmit ultrasonic ranging signals, and an ultrasonic receiver receives the ultrasonic ranging signals on a mobile device in order to locate the mobile device in a venue. A controller determines a noise level in the venue, and varies a sound level of the periodically ranging signals based on the determined noise level, thereby optimizing the position of the mobile device.

Abstract: A method and system for charging a battery is provided. A group charging policy specifying a conditional charging behavior for charging a battery of a computing device is stored in a memory of the computing device. The computing device is coupled to a power source. Battery status data is received, via a communications interface of the device, for each of at least one other computing device coupled to the power source. A power draw rate for charging the battery of the computing device is throttled according to the group charging policy and the battery status data of the computing device and the at least one other computing device.

Abstract: Image processing systems and methods are provided for extrinsic calibration of a plurality of image sensors. A logic circuit receives image data for an omnidirectional object from image sensors spaced apart and imaging at least a portion of a region of interest. The logic circuit combines the image data from the image sensors to generate a calibration matrix for the image sensors and to determine a matrix transformation data based on (i) reference image data and (ii) a three-dimensional model of the reference object. The logic circuit modifies the calibration matrix into an enhanced calibration matrix by applying the matrix transformation data to the calibration matrix, where the enhanced calibration matrix can be used to calibrate the plurality of image sensors.

Abstract: Each charging member in a group identifies a docking connection. Each charging member, responsive to identifying the docking connection, transmits information to other charging members in the group and receives information transmitted from another charging member in the group. Each charging member generates a list using the information transmitted to the group and received from the group. Each charging member also includes a ranking component for filtering, sorting, and ranking entries in the list according to a predefined selection filter and/or ranking filter. Each entry in the list is associated with a charging member with a docking connection and in the group. Each charging member determines based on a predefined indication filter that an entry in the list that is associated with the charging member is ranked at a predefined position in the list and provides an indication.

Abstract: Systems and methods for product reader control are described. In various aspects, the product reader control is enhanced with image sensor(s) for steering product reader(s) to determine product attributes associated with scanned products. The product reader control system and methods may capture, with the image sensor(s), one or more images associated with a product. The product may have a product identifier and the product may be located within an onsite venue. Based on the detection of the product identifier in the image(s), a first product reader may be steered in a direction of the product, where the first product reader is located within the onsite venue with the product. The first product reader may scan the product such that the scanning determines at least one attribute associated with the product.

Abstract: An antenna array, especially for use with a radio frequency identification reader, includes a ground plane and a pair of concentric, first and second, circular elements mounted at an elevation relative to the ground plane. First ports are arranged along the perimeter of the first element, and second ports are arranged along the perimeter of the second element. Each port conveys radio frequency signals in an operating band of frequencies. Each perimeter is substantially equal to an odd multiple of one-half of a guided wavelength at a center frequency of the respective operating band. Each adjacent pair of first ports, or adjacent pair of second ports, is successively spaced apart by a spacing constituting a whole multiple of one-half of the guided wavelength at the center frequency of the respective operating band. A polarized patch antenna may be positioned within the circular elements.
Abstract: A technique for the detection of an unauthorized wireless communication device includes monitoring of Bluetooth® communications activity by a Bluetooth® capable communication device. Any monitored communication activity is analyzed against parameters that are predefined to detect suspected illegal activity. If illegal activity is suspected by the analysis, an alert is generated for a system administrator. The predefined parameters associate illegal activity with; data that includes credit card numbers and expiration dates, credit card transaction logging information, non-discoverable devices, activity after store hours, exceedingly long activity, etc.

Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems for processing point-cloud data with a line scanner. One embodiment takes the form of a method that includes: receiving a 3D point cloud that is representative of an object; using one or more line scanners to identify one or more respective outer bounds of the object; and dimensioning the object based on points in the point cloud, wherein each of the points in the point cloud that are used for dimensioning the object is at or inside every identified outer bound.
Abstract: A method of decoding one or more barcodes on a target object with an imaging scanner is described. The imaging scanner comprises an image sensor and a dynamic linear polarizer. The method includes the following: (1) capturing at least one image of the target object through the dynamic linear polarizer with the imaging sensor while the dynamic linear polarizer is set to a different defined polarization during each of N time periods; and (2) processing at least N images of the target object to decode the one or more barcodes on the target object. At least one image that is captured during each of the N time periods. Here, N is an integer that can be three, four, five, six, or other natural numbers.
Abstract: At least some embodiments of the present invention relate to methods for stitching barcodes captured over multiple images. In an embodiment, the method includes capturing a first and second portions of a barcode in respective images, determining a presence of a match between the two captured portions, stitching the two portions pursuant to the match, and validating the combined string with the assistance of a reference mark.
Abstract: An imaging sensor of an imaging reader senses return light from a target to be read by image capture along an imaging axis over a field of view that extends along mutually orthogonal, horizontal and vertical axes. Two aiming light assemblies are offset from the sensor, and direct an aiming light pattern at the target. The pattern has an aiming mark in a central area of the pattern, and a pair of aiming light lines that are collinear along the horizontal axis. The visibility of the aiming mark is enhanced by optically configuring the aiming mark to be different in brightness and/or color and/or size and/or state of existence relative to a remaining area of the pattern. The aiming mark of enhanced visibility constitutes a prominent visual indicator of a center zone of the field of view.
