Abstract: Automatic Security Compliance Assessment (ASCA) systems and methods are provided for automatically generating and determining a security rating for a plurality of Settings Objects (SOs), where each of the SOs define particular configurations of subsystems of a wireless computing device. Each SO collectively defines a collection of Values specified for Configurable Attributes that can be used to define a different configuration for a particular subsystem associated with a particular Setting Class that is used to guide the creation of that particular SO. The server can store a group of security rating templates, each of which includes the information needed to determine an expected security rating for any SOs created per a particular Settings Class. For any combination of device settings, the resultant SOs can be used to generate an expected security rating.

Abstract: Described is a system and method for charging a battery. The system includes a processor powered by a battery; and a controller determining a remaining battery charge of the battery. The controller sets a first charge current to recharge the battery when the remaining battery charge is insufficient to operate the processor. The controller wakes the processor when the battery has been recharged so that the remaining battery capacity is sufficient to operate the processor. The processor negotiates for a second charge current to recharge the battery. The controller sets the second charge current when the processor successfully negotiated.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for focusing an image of a target object. The apparatus comprises imaging circuitry for analyzing an image reflected from a target object that is projected onto an imaging sensor coupled to the imaging circuitry. A fixed imaging lens having an optical axis in alignment with the imaging sensor focuses the reflected image onto the imaging sensor. One of a plurality of apertures located within a selectable aperture of varying sizes is selected for optically enhancing the fixed imaging lens. An actuator is coupled to the selectable aperture for selectively selecting the one of the plurality of apertures in a direction transverse to optical axis for optically enhancing the fixed imaging lens.
Abstract: A method for improving RFID readers includes transmitting an outgoing RF signal to an antenna through a directional device, and generating a demodulated vector signal from an RF signal related to the RF signal received from the receiver. The method also includes setting the impedance of a controllable-variable-reflectance element with control-parameters from a memory circuit. The memory circuit includes a look up table having therein a corresponding relationship between the control-parameters and an error vector related to the demodulated vector signal.
Abstract: A workstation for electro-optically reading targets in a reading field of view includes an object sensing system that senses an object entering the workstation by directing object sensing light through a window at the object, and detecting return object sensing light returned from the object along an object detection path through the window over an object detection field of view of an object light sensor. A portion of the object sensing light incident on the window is reflected therefrom into the object detection field of view as a virtual hot spot that degrades object sensor performance. An optical element, e.g., an aperture stop, in the object detection path optically modifies the object detection field of view to prevent the virtual hot spot from being detected by the object light sensor.

Abstract: An imaging module for electro-optically imaging a target, includes an energizable illuminating light source for illuminating the target with illumination light for return from the target, an energizable solid-state imager for capturing return light from the target, and a controller for energizing the imager during an exposure time period to capture the return light at a frame rate, for deenergizing the imager during a non-exposed time period, and for energizing the illuminating light source not only during the exposure time period, but also during the non-exposed time period, to produce a plurality of illumination light pulses at an illumination rate that enables the human eye to perceive the illumination light pulses as substantially continuous. The illumination rate of one or more of the illumination light pulses produced during the non-exposed time period is substantially independent and decoupled from the frame rate.

Abstract: A method of providing assistance for locating a radio-frequency identification (RFID) device is provided. The RFID device preferably comprises a power source having a power level and a feedback device. The method comprises determining the power level of the power source is below a first predetermined power level, and transmitting a first signal that indicates the power level of the power source is below the first predetermined power level. Thereafter, the method comprises receiving a second signal that instructs the RFID device to activate the feedback device, and operating the feedback device in response to receiving the second signal.

The RFID reader includes an RFID radio module configured to support a far-field interrogation mode and a near-field interrogation mode, an antenna arrangement coupled to the RFID radio module, and a mode-switch sensor architecture coupled to the RFID radio module. The mode-switch sensor architecture is configured to detect conditions indicative of near-field interrogation, and the RFID radio module automatically configures itself for operation in the near-field interrogation mode upon detection of such conditions.
Abstract: A bi-optical, dual window, point-of-transaction workstation images indicia associated with multi-sided products over a full coverage scan zone by splitting each field of view of only two imagers into three subfields that pass through each window and fill the scan zone and minimize dead areas therein. Twisting of the subfields relative to the windows is minimized so that the subfields fit fully with minimal clipping through each window. Splitting of each field of view is remotely performed well away from each imager. The imagers have lens assemblies of substantially the same optical power and are spaced from their respective windows by substantially the same distance.
Abstract: A method is provided for both layer 2 (L2) and layer 3 (L3) security in the context, for example, of a WISP-e protocol. An AES algorithm in CBC mode is used for encryption and decryption of the control frames. The session keys (e.g., 128-bit session keys) are derived from a pre-shared secret configured on both communicating wireless termination points.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a combined and compact monopole and slot antenna providing circular polarization for various applications, such as ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID). The antenna of the present invention combines a slot antenna with a monopole antenna using a single feed to drive both, effectively resulting in a circular polarized antenna. In an exemplary embodiment, the antenna may be integrated internally to a mobile device and printed on a flex or a printed circuit board (PCB), made from sheet metal, etc. Advantageously, the design of the antenna provides performance similar to circular polarized patch antennas while avoiding the size, weight, and cost.
Abstract: A system and methods of managing entries in a cuckoo hash table that is subject to manipulation by a plurality of concurrent processors are provided. The cuckoo hash table is used to maintain a plurality of keys, along with their data items, in a plurality of entries. In accordance with an operating method, a first command for the cuckoo hash table is processed, and the first command is associated with a first processor of the plurality of concurrent processors. In addition, invalid conditions associated with concurrent processing of a second command for the cuckoo hash table are prevented or minimized. The second command is associated with a second processor of the plurality of concurrent processors. As one example, the operating method manages the situation where concurrent push commands create a race condition. As another example, the operating method manages the situation where a lookup or delete command from one processor competes with a push command from another processor.
Abstract: A system is configured to scan for APs on DFS channels while maintaining VOIP traffic employing both passive and active scans. During passive scan mode, the APs are configured to listen only. During active scan mode, the STA sends a probe request, and the AP(s) send(s) probe responses. During power save mode, the STA tells the associated AP that it will be turning “off” to save power. The STA is then required to listen to beacons for traffic notifications. The power save mode enables the STA to move to other channels during periods in which the AP “thinks” it is asleep. An 802.11 “in-use” list is used to facilitate scanning.
Abstract: A system and method for multicast video streaming over a wireless local area network (WLAN) improves scalability and reliability. The method includes configuring the WLAN access point with a reserved video bandwidth (step 1005). A multicast video stream including data packets marked with differentiated services code points (DSCPs) is then received (step 1010). The multicast video stream is then converted to a plurality of “n” unicast streams (step 1015). Data packets in the unicast streams are then streamed from the WLAN access point to a plurality of “n” mobile units using a selective packet discard algorithm that employs the DSCPs (step 1020).
