Abstract: A system and methods for measuring the temperature of an RFID reader module and inserting a delay in the RFID reader's duty cycle to prevent the RFID reader from initiating a thermal shutdown. The system and methods are self-adaptable, therefore incurring the benefit regardless of the design of the RFID reader host and its associated heat sink. The system and methods also provide for archiving the collected data and analyzing the data providing the ability to improve the design of the RFID reader host.

Abstract: A laser scanning device is described. The device includes a laser for projecting a light beam. A mirror is optically coupled to the laser. The mirror reflects the light beam onto a target. A detector generates an analog signal in response to detecting a reflection of the light beam from the target. A processor is capable of modifying a scanning parameter of the laser scanning device. The processor processes the analog signal to generate a digital bar pattern and can embed the scanning parameter in the digital bar pattern.

The region is divided into a plurality of zones. The asset is disposed in one of the zones. The asset includes an audio output device. The audio output device is set to a predetermined volume level as a function of one of the plurality of the zones in which the asset is disposed.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for RFID tags, RFID readers, communications algorithms, and RFID-related applications are described herein. In an aspect of the invention, an RFID tag is capable of storing data, receiving a signal from a reader, determining a response taking into account the tag mode and the data, and transmitting a response to the reader. The data includes a first plurality of bits and a second plurality of bits. The tag mode may be set by a current or a prior command by the reader. Depending on the tag mode, the response may be complete, or the second plurality of bits may be truncated, compressed, or encrypted. In an aspect of the invention, the response includes an implicit indication of whether the response is complete, truncated, encrypted, or compressed. In another aspect of the invention, a command from the reader indicates how many bits should be truncated, compressed, or encrypted.
Abstract: A self-configuration method for access devices in a wireless network begins by performing wireless data collection with the access devices during an automated calibration period. During this time, each access device receives beacons from one or more transmitting access devices, the beacons being transmitted and received using a plurality of different channels available to the wireless network. The method records radio frequency (RF) data associated with the received beacons, and processes the RF data to select, from the plurality of different channels, a respective channel for each of the access devices. In addition, the RF data is processed to adjust transmit power levels for the access devices. The selected channels and adjusted transmit power levels are then used as configuration settings for the access devices.
Abstract: A technique for synchronization of mobile device information in a wireless communication network includes associating 300 a mobile device (MD) to a first access point (AP). A next step includes transmitting 302 a roam notification message from the first AP to all APs in network. A next step includes associating 304 the MD to a second AP. A next step includes establishing 306 that the first and second APs are roaming neighbors. A next step includes building 308 a roaming neighbor list in the associated first and second APs for the MD, wherein the list includes those neighboring APs where the MD has been associated. A next step includes determining 310 that the MD is currently associated with an AP. A next step includes preemptively pushing 312 information about the MD to those APs in the list of the determined AP for synchronization.
Abstract: An apparatus and techniques for detecting the loading and unloading of materials on a mobile structure are disclosed. The techniques can be used to detect when material is on a support structure of the mobile structure and to detect when the material is off the support structure of the mobile structure.

Abstract: A wireless local area network that carries mixed traffic of voice and data communications may be provided. The wireless local area network may include an access point and a plurality of remote terminals that are associated with the access point. The access point may be operably coupled to a wireline network. The access point may receive voice and other communications packets from the remote terminals and the wireline network. Some of the packets may be for transmission to the remote terminals. The access point manages which packets to transmit and when to transmit packets. The access point may manage traffic to maintain a fair distribution of packets and to give priority to voice communications over other communications.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a remote camera is described. The apparatus includes a housing and a processor positioned within the housing. A transceiver coupled to the processor communicates with a remote server. The remote server is coupled to the remote camera. A motion tracking component is mechanically coupled to the housing and electrically coupled to the processor. The motion tracking component generates a motion signal. The remote server controls a parameter of the remote camera in response to the motion signal. A display is coupled to the processor for displaying the output signal from the remote camera. The output signal is associated with the parameter of the remote camera.
Abstract: A method for optimizing RF coverage includes dividing a floor plan according to a plurality of grids. Radio frequency coverage for each of the plurality of grids is calculated to render a plurality of coverages. First data representative of the plurality of coverage grids is provided to a client. Second data representative of an incremental change in radio frequency coverage for a first grid of the plurality of grids is provided to the client.
Abstract: An apparatus for securing a portable device is described. The portable device includes a housing having a mating feature adapted to mate with a corresponding mating feature of the cradle. The cradle includes a locking mechanism that is capable of locking the portable device to the cradle. A transceiver is positioned in the housing. The transceiver is capable of communicating with a remote server containing data of a registered user. A radio-frequency identification (RFID) reader is positioned in the housing. The RFID reader controls the locking mechanism such that the locking mechanism releases the portable device from the cradle when a RFID tag storing the data of the registered user is positioned proximate to the RFID reader.
Abstract: A bi-optical, dual window, point-of-transaction workstation images indicia associated with products with a single, solid-state imager that captures return light from the indicia over a field of view. A first optical subsystem is stationarily supported by the workstation and directs at least a part of the field of view of the imager as a first light collection region or regions passing through one of the windows. A second optical subsystem is also stationarily supported by the workstation and directs at least a part of the field of view of the imager as a second light collection region or regions passing through the other of the windows. A controller controls the imager and processes the captured return light in at least one of the light collection regions.

Abstract: A system, apparatus, and techniques for interrogating a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag are disclosed. The system includes an RFID reader that includes a pivotable polarized antenna for reading a reader/tag link. The antenna moves at a specific frequency over a specific distance resulting in reader/tag links being moved out of a null region of the reader. Advantageously, by pivoting the antenna, the antenna apparatus minimizes signal fading and improves signal quality from tags.
