  • Publication number: 20130026233
Abstract: An illumination time of an illumination system and/or an exposure setting of an imaging system are adjusted by a proximity system operative for detecting a product entering a field of view in a bi-optical, dual window, point-of-transaction workstation. The proximity system includes an infrared emitter for emitting infrared light to the product, and an infrared sensor for sensing return infrared light from the product. Multiple predefined thresholds are stored for the sensed return infrared light, and a predefined illumination time and/or exposure setting are stored and assigned to each predefined threshold. Adjustment of the illumination time and/or of the exposure setting is performed by comparing the sensed return infrared light from the product in real time operation with the stored predefined thresholds.

  • Patent number: 8363617
Abstract: Techniques are provided for selecting an access point (AP) to communicate with from a plurality of candidate access points (APs) when a wireless computing device (WCD) roams in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The WCD stores a pairwise master key (PMK) for each access point that the WCD has previously established a PMK with during authentication. The WCD a plurality of candidate access points and determines an AP statistic (APS) associated with each candidate AP. The WCD then determines an AP rating for each candidate AP based on the APS for the candidate AP and whether the wireless computing device has a pairwise master key stored for the candidate AP. The WCD then selects a particular one of the candidate APs having the highest AP rating as a desired AP of the wireless computing device.

  • Publication number: 20130001290
Abstract: A barcode reader for verifying a barcode is attached to an appropriate object particularly suitable for use at a point of sale. A database of expected object signatures in a vicinity of a properly affixed barcode properly is maintained. At a point of sale, the barcode reader obtains an image of a presented barcode (possibly not the correct barcode) and at least a portion of an object to which the presented barcode is affixed. Using data encoded on the presented barcode, the database is accessed to provide an expected signature of the object in the region of the presented barcode. A comparison is made between the expected signature of the object and a sensed signature derived from the image of the object. An improper barcode can thus possibly be identified and further investigation initiated.
