Abstract: A wireless local area network for digital radio communication between remote devices and a PBX telephone system, wherein the remote devices can access and use the voice message features in the PBX and the data bases on a host computer and servers. A wireless phone is provided for voice and data communication through the PBX or a CO telephone line with remote locations or the Internet using digital data packets and standard Internet Protocol. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the remote device is a cash register comprising a bar code scanner and a phone. Radio communication between the register and a host computer is carried out over two channels, a first channel for data communication and a second channel for voice communication.

Abstract: A method for cross marketing between companies. A first company conditions the grant of a discount for a second product at a second company on a purchase of a first product at the first company. The second company offers the second product for sale and stands ready to accept the discount on this second product as granted by the first company. The consumer may be notified of the discount. A credit may be deposited into an account of the consumer as an amount of property, a percentage of revenue, money, or some combination. Cumulative discounts may be aggregated on the purchase of a second product. A credit to an account benefiting the second company may be made in compensation for accepting the discount. The method may be used by departments within a company.

Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing interference by warbling a reader transmitted signal are described. To reduce interference in a densely packed multiple reader environment, a reader modulates or warbles the frequency or phase of the transmitted signal during a reception portion of a symbol exchange period. The transmitted signal is modulated within the bandwidth of an operating channel. The bandwidth of the operating channel is much narrower than the system bandwidth. In frequency warbling, the carrier frequency is shifted one or more times during the reception portion of the symbol exchange period. If phase warbling, the transmitted signal is spread within bandwidth of the operating channel during the reception portion of the symbol exchange period.
Abstract: A system and method in a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag for writing and erasing user memory. A write command is received at the tag to write data into user memory of the tag. Based on receipt of the write command, a user memory flag in a first memory bank of the tag is set, and the data is written into a second memory bank of the tag. An erase command is received at the tag to erase data stored in the user memory of the tag. Based on receipt of the command to erase, the user memory flag in the first memory bank is cleared, and data stored in the second memory bank is erased.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for preventing unauthorized reading of data stored in tags are described. A non-identifying bit pattern, an identifying bit pattern, and a first passcode are stored in the tag. A read lock command is received by the tag. The tag determines whether a second passcode associated with the read lock command matches the first passcode. Read access to the identifying bit pattern is disabled if it is determined that the second passcode matches the first passcode.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for preventing unauthorized reading of identifying data stored in tags are described. A secure access identification number and associated read lock password are received. The secure access identification number and associated read lock passcode are transferred to the tag. The tag stores the secure access identification number and read lock passcode. A read lock command is transmitted to the tag. The tag is locked from being read for selected information, such as identifying information and user information, by the read lock command. In a further aspect, the secure access identification number is read from the read locked tag. The secure access identification number is associated with a passcode. The passcode is transmitted to the read locked tag. The tag disables the read lock if the passcode matches the previously received read lock password.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) based radio frequency identification (RFID) systems are described. In an aspect, a tag transmitter performs QAM signal mapping and quadrature modulation of a carrier wave (CW), to transmit a QAM response signal. In another aspect, a QAM-enabled reader receiver receives the QAM tag response signal, and performs quasi-coherent signal processing, based on tracking of QAM signal parameters in a decision feedback loop.
Abstract: A lightweight, compact image projection module, especially for mounting in a housing having a light-transmissive window, is operative for causing selected pixels in a raster pattern to be illuminated to produce an image of high resolution of VGA quality in color. The brightness of the illuminated pixels is enhanced by combining constituent laser beams of the same wavelength. The contrast of the illuminated pixels is improved by sweeping a composite beam across a polarized screen, and by making the polarizations of all the constituent laser beams of the composite beam the same.
Abstract: A programmable mobile terminal which includes a thumb wheel for selecting among a plurality of functions executable by the mobile terminal. The programmable mobile terminal allows a user to employ the same hand that is holding the mobile terminal to scroll through and select a function among a plurality of functions via the thumb wheel. The wheel portion of thumb wheel is rotated either clockwise or counter clockwise by the user's thumb or other finger to scroll a screen cursor through the functions and once the screen cursor of the mobile terminal is positioned at a desired function, the user can depress the wheel portion in a transaxial direction with the same thumb or finger to select the desired function. Also, the programmable mobile terminal allows a user to scan bar code information and use the thumb wheel for selecting among a plurality of functions relating to the scanned bar code information.
Abstract: A method of identifying or authenticating a product by providing an analog identification indicium including a randomized pattern of identification features on a first part of the product wherein one or more attributes of the randomized pattern of identification features correspond to an item identifier. A digital identification record is provided on a second part of the product including an encoded digital version of the item identifier, the first and second parts being separable when the product is used. The randomized pattern of identification features of the analog identification indicium is read and decoded to generate an item identifier and the digital identification record is read and decoded to generate an item identifier. The product is deemed authentic if the item identifier from the analog identification indicium substantially matches the item identifier from the digital identification record.
Abstract: Described is an assembly, which includes a housing and a window member therein. Also, described is a method and system for manufacturing such assembly. In particular, a first part and a second part are approximated into a molding configuration to create a first mold therebetween. The first mold includes first and second molding cavities. When the first and second parts are in the molding configuration, the second molding cavity is sealed with respect to the first molding cavity. Then, a first molding material is added into the first molding cavity to create a housing. A window member is inserted into the second molding cavity. The second part is replaced with a third molding cavity surrounding a perimeter of the window member. Subsequently, a second molding material is added to the third molding cavity to create a seal surrounding the perimeter of the window member.
