Abstract: A system and method is provided for reordering the transmission of data packets in a queue of a radio system when an error occurs during the transmission of a data packet to any device destination address. A transmission ordering component is provided that transmits data packets in a queue one at a time until a transmission error occurs for a given destination address. The transmission ordering component then searches through the queue for a data packet with a different destination address than the current destination address being transmitted. The transmission ordering component then returns to transmitting packets one at a time until the end of the queue is reached. Once the end of the queue is reached the transmission ordering component reorders the queue and moves the packets in which transmission errors have occurred to the beginning of the queue. The transmission ordering component then repeats the transmitting data packets one at a time.
Abstract: Location of mobile units in a wireless local area network is based on use of signal strength ratios and other criteria. In one embodiment absolute value of signal strength is used to derive a second value of location. The second value may be used as the location if the system is not calibrated and may also be used to calibrate the system. Alternatively time difference of arrival may be used in combination with signal strength ratio.
Abstract: Described is an improved trigger assembly for use in an electronic device. The trigger assembly includes a pressure sensitive member and a trigger button. The pressure sensitive member includes two or more conductive lines. The pressure sensitive member is secured to a portion of the mobile terminal. The trigger button is secured to the mobile terminal in a manner such that a force applied to the trigger button causes a resultant force to be applied on the pressure sensitive member. The force applied on the pressure sensitive member causes a change in an electrical property between at least two of the conductive lines. A module measures the electrical property between the conductive lines. A function of the device is initiated depending on a comparison of the measured electrical property to a threshold value.
Abstract: Electrical interference between resonant, drive and line frequencies in a drive is reduced by selecting the resonant frequency to be non-harmonically related to the drive and line frequencies. The drive is of beneficial use in a lightweight, compact image projection module operative for causing selected pixels in a raster pattern to be illuminated to produce a non-distorted image of high resolution of VGA quality in color.
Abstract: Described is a system for configuring a wireless mobile device for operation on a wireless network including a receiving element to receive configuration information for the wireless device and a generation element to generate codes for an optically readable element, the optically readable element configured to be read by the wireless device, wherein the configuration information configures the wireless device for operation on a wireless network.

Abstract: An imaging scanner with a two dimensional array of sensors analyzes data from a segment of the array to detect if one or more indicia conditions is present that would prevent a successful decode based on data in the segment. In this manner, if decoding the indicia using data from the segment of array data is not possible, an enlarged frame of array data can be sought for decode when necessary while one-dimensional and simple two-dimensional barcodes can be quickly processed by loading and decoding only the segment of the array.

Abstract: An image projection module within a housing is operative for causing selected pixels in a raster pattern to be illuminated to produce an image on a display screen of VGA quality. The screen is modified and/or the bandwidth of a laser is increased, to reduce speckle noise in the image.
Abstract: An automatic focusing system for an imaging-based bar code reader. The automatic focusing system employs a two step process for moving a lens of an imaging system along its path of travel such that a sharp image of a target bar code is projected or focused onto an imaging system pixel array. The first step is laser ranging which utilizes a laser beam for range finding. Laser ranging determines a distance between the imaging system pixel array and the target bar code. Given the determined distance, the automatic focusing system moves the lens to a suitable position for imaging the target bar code. If ambient conditions prevent laser ranging from properly working, the second step is focus analysis. Focus analysis involves moving the lens in accordance with a search routine and analyzing image frames of the target object to find a suitable focus position.

Abstract: A lightweight, compact image projection module, especially for mounting in a housing having a light-transmissive window, is operative for causing selected pixels in a raster pattern to be illuminated to produce an image of high resolution of VGA quality or higher in color. A laser beam focusing arrangement aligns a mechanical axis of a focusing lens with an optical axis along which a laser beam is directed to reduce pointing errors.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for scanning an optical code, in which an optical code scanner system includes an ambient light sensor having at least one photo sensor for sensing ambient light conditions and generating at least one first electrical signal corresponding to the sensing of the ambient light conditions, and a photo sensor array having a plurality of photo sensors for sensing light reflected from the target being imaged and generating a plurality of second electrical signals corresponding the sensing of the reflected light.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for encrypting an identifier such as a PIN entered on a keypad. The apparatus may include a pad, an encrypting circuit adjacent the pad and a link coupling the pad and the encrypting circuit. The pad is for entering an identifier, and the circuit for encrypting the entered identifier. The pad may be a physical touch pad such as an N-wire-technology touch pad. Alternatively, the pad may be a virtual touch screen. The encrypting circuit may be a CPU along with a memory coupled to the CPU and programmed to encrypt. The CPU and programmed memory may be the first CPU programmable to encrypt the entered identifier, through which the identifier passes. The encrypting circuit may be a microcontroller programmed to encrypt. In still another variation, the encrypting circuit may be an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC). The apparatus may include a housing that encloses the encrypting circuit and link. The housing would be resistant to access, tampering or tapping.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided to controllably compensate for distortions in an image produced by an LPD, where the distortion arises from the shape and/or angle of the viewing surface relative to the LPD. For example, the LPD can determine the angle of the viewing surface relative to the LPD and then adjust the horizontal and vertical scan mechanisms to return the image to its original configuration, such as rectangular.

Abstract: Systems and methods for optimizing random access retrieval of a requested data item in a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag are provided. During random access retrieval, a first read of a memory bank in the RFID tag is performed. The first read providers a set of identifier indices stored in a packed object in the memory bank of the RFID tag and a length of the packed object. A determination is then made whether a retrieved identifier index represents the requested data item to be retrieved. A second read of the memory bank, accessing the portion of the memory bank including the data items, is then performed. The location of the data item in the packed object may optionally be determined prior to the second read.
Abstract: An imaging-based bar code reader that includes an imaging and decoding system. When used on a stand to image documents, typically neither the stand or document is moving. Therefore blurring due to motion is not an issue. A sensor detects when the scanner is mounted to a stand. When commanded to take an image the scanner electronics and software modifies an auto-exposure process to minimize gain and lengthen exposure. This modification results in the scanner that is effective for scanning bar codes and yet also takes excellent pictures when mounted to a stand.
