Abstract: An aiming arm system comprises an aiming arm and a guide sleeve. The aiming arm has 1) a body and a guide hole that extends through the body along a hole axis, and 2) a retention element supported relative to the body. The aiming arm is configured to be positioned such that the hole axis is aligned with a target location of an anatomical implant. The guide sleeve extends along a linear direction, and is sized to be inserted through the guide hole in the linear direction. Relative rotation between the guide sleeve and the retention element transitions the aiming arm system between an unlocked configuration whereby the guide sleeve is insertable through the guide hole, and a locked configuration whereby the retention element applies a retention force to the guide sleeve that substantially prevents the guide sleeve from moving further along the linear direction.
Abstract: A method of evaluating a bone fracture reduction includes imaging, intraoperatively, a fractured bone to obtain a representation of the fractured bone in a computing system. The fractured bone defines at least first and second bone fragments separated by a fracture. The method includes imaging a contralateral bone of the patient to obtain a representation of the contralateral bone in the computing system and further includes generating, intraoperatively in the computing system, a virtual model of the fractured bone from data presented in the representation of the fractured bone and a virtual model of the contralateral bone from data presented in the representation of the contralateral bone. The method includes comparing, intraoperatively in the computing system, a spatial dimension measured with respect to the virtual model of the fractured bone with a corresponding spatial dimension measured with respect to the virtual model of the contralateral bone.

Abstract: The disclosure extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for enhancing edges within an image in a light deficient environment, which utilizes knowledge of the expected noise pixel by pixel, to control the strength of the edge enhancement and thereby limit the impact of the enhancement on the perception of noise.
Abstract: A method of constructing a detachment system for delivering an implantable medical device to a target location of a body vessel is presented. The method includes forming a compressible portion on a distal tube, engaging an implantable medical device with an engagement system, extending the engagement system through the distal tube such that the implantable medical device is distal of a distal end of the distal tube, applying a force to the engagement system to compress the compressible portion to a compressed state, fixing the engagement system to the distal tube to maintain the compressed state of the compressible portion, and joining a proximal end of the distal tube to a distal end of a proximal tube. The engagement system can include a loop wire that is fixed to the distal tube and engages the medical device.

Abstract: A cutting burr that includes a pair of axially spaced diamond-shaped portions designed to be keyed into a spindle of a locking mechanism of a high speed surgical drilling instrument and adapted to fit into a single pawl thereof to lock said cutting burr in place so as to prevent axial movement thereof and provide concentric rotation of said cutting burr without any wobbling. The orientation of both portions may be identical with respect to a center plan and diamond shape in the portion at the proximal end of the shank of the cutting tool may be larger than the intermediately located diamond shape of the other portion. The apexes of the facets of the six-sided diamond shape may be disposed below the surface of the shank of the cutting burr.
Abstract: An implantable device includes a substrate and protective cover that cooperate to define an enclosed sensor volume. A sealed enclosure is provided within the sensor volume, with an electronic component assembly (ECA) being located within the sealed enclosure. A flexible circuit board assembly (FCBA) is electrically coupled with the ECA through a wall of the sealed enclosure. At least one transducer is provided on the FCBA in contact with the substrate, and the FCBA is held apart from the enclosure via a polymeric spacer provided therebetween. An inert polymer fill is provided within the sensor volume external to the enclosure.
Abstract: A surgical planning computing system and related surgical method include identifying an anatomical landmark of a patient's bony anatomy in a three-dimensional anatomical image and determining positioning criteria for an orthopedic prosthesis to be implanted into the patient's bony anatomy. The positioning criteria may define an alignment between the anatomical landmark and a feature of the orthopaedic prosthesis. A three-dimensional model of the orthopaedic prosthesis is positioned in the three-dimensional model based on the positioning criteria to provide a surgical plan for the implantation of the orthopaedic prosthesis.

Abstract: An orthopedic impacting tool comprises a motor, an energy storage chamber, a striker, and an anvil. The motor stores energy in the energy storage chamber and then releases it, causing the striker to apply a controlled force on an adapter to create a precise impact for use in a surgical setting. The tool may further comprise a combination anvil and adapter. The tool further allows forward or backward impacting for expanding the size or volume of the opening or for facilitating removal of a broach, implant, or other surgical implement from the opening. An energy adjustment control of the tool allows a surgeon to increase or decrease the impact energy. A light source and hand grips improve ease of operation of the tool.
